Using a Hauppauge HD PVR on Macs

Hello GTPlanet!

I was wondering what equipment I will need if I want to use the Hauppauge on a MacBook. As far as I know, the Hauppauge HD PVR does not work with Macs. To compensate for this, you'll need to use a software that allows the Hauppauge to work on Macs. Again, based only from reading on the internet, the Elgato EyeTV is the best software for this job.

The question is which Elgato product I'm supposed to use: (Link to Elgato website.) Is it: the turbo.264 HD Video Converter with Hardware Accelerator, or is it the turbo.264 HD Video Converter Software?

Lastly, if anybody can provide me with some sort of knowledge on how this even works, that would be great. :)

My HD-PVR works fine on my MacBook Pro. You could use the EyeTV software. If you have a MacBook Pro with two GPU's, make sure you use the dedicated one, not the onboard one.

Providing you have the drivers installed, I can't see why you can't use any software that can detect the HD-PVR.

I'm not sure what software you are referring to.

What drivers are you referring to?

Currently, I have none of these products, so I'm wondering which I'm supposed to purchase. Thanks!

The drivers for the HD-PVR or any other video capture device.

But doesn't the drivers only work for Windows? Is this what EyeTV is for? So that the drivers will work on a Mac?

I'm lost here. Small words and slow instructions would help immensely. :)

Thanks for your patience!

I thought it had drivers for mac, if it doesn't have any drivers for mac you may need to go down the path of getting a high performance windows machine if you are thinking of capturing High Definition at a high bitrate, or maybe use a Virtual PC software for mac or just get a video capture device for a mac.

Long time lurker here but I had to register because of the misunderstanding in what I've read in this thread.

The hauppauge is a pass through unit like the Elgato units. The Elgato software does not work with the hauppauge because they are converters not recording software, which is what you need. The Hauppauge comes with recording software but only for PC.

If you go into the faq section on the hauppauge website they have a link to a program that works with their recorder on a Mac. I'm currently testing it now (free demo let's you record for minutes) and I'm looking for alternatives but no luck yet. The program costs $30 US.
