Vintage & Later Model 2-Speed Low HP -Civics @ Deep Forest - Planning Race #2!

The race will probably be somewhere around 36 laps.
But I haven't come to an official decision yet on the timing.

Mostly because I'm still working on tuning both of the Civics - in the event I have to use the later model. So I'm still not sure I'm doing my best lap times, or to even be able to guess what the best lap times would be (ie: for faster racers than me!)

whooo hoo, I will be racing the 266hp/max reduced kg Civic, then?

Looks like!

It's a bit understeery. LOL But I didn't find it awful.
I do NOT think it's as understeery & prone to horrid tire wear as the RM Golf. At this hp restriction, you will still have "room to move", in regards to tuning.
There's only 1 mandatory pit, unless you get damage that makes you reckless or slows you down of course! So there will be a bit of pit strategy involved. I would not be surprised if someone opted for a 2 pit strategy even if escaping any damage whatsoever. Depending on the particular racer, I'm not sure how many pits will be desirable for all. I just know that if I'm in the later model, I will likely wind up needing to pit at least twice or 3 times. LOL
The tire wear does increase the understeer quite a bit, but again, nowhere near as bad as the maxed out RM Golf I think.

And the vintage model also has its own understeer issues after tire wear. Though I think it's a little less pronounced... simply because there's not a lot of hairpins & sharp turns on Deep Forest to make trouble for a car at 128hp.

So far, in the later model my best lap time has been 1:28.457
But I've seen someone else do a 1:28.3xx I believe... and they were working on their set-up at the time so they may go faster when they get it settled. So with the draft in mind...

In the Vintage model, my best time so far has been 1:35.4xx

Bearing in mind that in both models, I have only so far tested using the height adjustable sports kit.
Maybe I'll find some "magic numbers" in the fully adjustable suspensions. :D
I did however immediately equip the fully adjustable LSD on the later model... and I think without it at 266hp, I wouldn't be able to deal with the car at all. haha. (braking understeer is a big pet peeve of mine on tracks with sweeping turns)

Who knew the Civic could turn into such a big fat growling beast of a car..and fun to drive.
Watermelon, those times, are they from a lounge, or offline in practice mode?

I think you are right about the LSD, Im testing at the moment without, but maybe it could reduce the shreddingeffect on my front tires. Or maybe that´ll cost somehow in other areas. Im really no expert when it comes to what that LSD actually does.

The times were in my Lounge, with the same settings as will be for the race.
I'm bad with tire wear on some cars. I only know that LSD controls wheel spin... so I know if they are spinning inappropriately, the LSD can help by making less or more of it. It seems a delicate thing, because yes, too much control is not fast, but too little is not fast if the wheels are spinning for no good reason. I think more adjustment to transmission & suspension will help me too.
But overall, I hope I just can drive the vintage model (haha) as I would like because it's one of my favourite cars in the game. And so I've had a little more tuning with it, so there's less work to be done with that one.

I'd like to join in on this race. For now I can only pick the '91 since I don't have the vintage one yet. I still have a few days to find one in the UCD though ;).

As for other make/model races:
- Mini cooper 1.3i / Mini Marcos / Mini One ;). For which I would be able to provide 1.3i and/or Marcos to those who can't seem to find any.
- Caterham Seven Fireblades where the difference would be in turbocharged and supercharged with a max of 550pp (got it in both the tuning specs and are great fun to drive/drift).

On a side note: This would be my first online race-event and my second race-evening online at this moment...

Ciao,
Stefan

Hi Epicentre! Welcome!
And not to worry about being new to online racing events.
I try to make my races newbie-friendly because I'm pretty new to this whole thing myself, and mostly what one would call a "casual gt5 racer".

We use the GTP OLR Rules
It's not just a list of things to not do... it gives some good tips on driving in general.

And if you need the car... I'm not sure I have a spare of the vintage model. But yes, the 91 is the prize car so most have it. But if you want the vintage model, there is probably someone who might be able to send you one.

I believe the Fun Racers group is planning a Mini race at some point in the future. DJAbacus is the one to ask about that.

And there's lots of interest in the Caterham in the Vintage Club, so be sure to check it out.

Thanks for the warm welcome as well as the invite to the Vintage Club. I'm sure to check the other events out as well.

Ciao,

Welcome Stefan.

If you want an old civic. Send me a friend request & i'll send you one.

Look forward to racing with you.

Jack

I figured you would have a spare jack! :D

Oh, and for anyone disappointed about the Beetles losing out in the poll... I'm thinking of having a vintage Beetle race of some type at some point. (Probably 350pp, comfort soft tires.) So stay tuned in the Vintage Club! (For now, I'm planning a Schwimmwagen race, and a Lotus Elan race as well.) /end plug

I'm just popping in to express interest in the second race in this series. I'm unable to get in on the first due to time constraints.

If you're taking suggestions from the list, I do like the idea of running the Nissan Fairlady group at Madrid. 👍

Keep watching... I'm sure there'll be lots of chat about possibilities for the second race once the first one is done & dusted!

jack, I understand you will be hosting thursday in case of watermelon being unable to do so, Ill post some guidelines to the 2 step organization (setting restrictions and such..) of the race tomorrow in the forum.

And my Honda CIVIC SiR-II (EG) '91 is some kind of red. Just so you´ll are warned...:)

Thanks ID, I am hoping watermelon will make it as I'd prefer to not have my first experience of hosting in a 2 spec race - however If she can't make it i'll do my best!!!

Thanks to Jack I am going for the Vintage one. Except she isn't Santa Fe Orange anymore... She sports a nice Honda Lime Green Metallic :D.
Tomorrow a bit more suspensiontuning and I'm all set to go.

How late wil the room be opened? Rather being early than late ;).

PS. How will I find the room/lounge... yes I'm that new...

If I'm hosting I hope to have room open about half hour before race but that depends how fast I can get back from work.

All systems are go... as of right now, I'm planning on racing.

I should be firing up the ps3 early to get in some extra warming up, as I haven't raced in days! Anyone is welcome to join me early when I get it open.

I really appreciate the help guys. :D

@ID_Racing, I hope we can do a little practice run with setting the restrictions, as I haven't tested that yet at all, so I really appreciate your help, since you have some experience with this previously.

Good to know, that you are racing!
Ill try to post a little "how to" in about half an hours time here in the forum, and we can rehearse, when you have opened your lounge.

ok, this is very much based on the work of our good friend turbogeit. It has proven to work, and Im certain he wont mind us using it to make this race a fun one.

-Qualify procedure:

IT IS MANDATORY THAT EVERYONE MUST BE IN THE LOBBY AT LEAST 20 MINUTES BEFORE THE START OF THE RACE.

That means 20 minutes before:
10:00am US PDT / 1:00pm US EDT / 6:00pm BST/GMT+1 / 7:00pm CET

watermelon, you decide how strict this will be imposed, but its very important everyone is on track so we can make the visability check, and correct any faults, before the next steps.

15 MINUTES BEFORE THE START OF THE RACE THE TRACK WILL BE RESETTED.
RESTRICTIONS WILL BE SET AT max. 128hp , min. 780kg
Sports Medium Tires
, AND ALL Honda CIVIC 1500 3door CX ‘79 DRIVERS WILL GO ON TRACK.
AFTER THAT RESTRICTIONS WILL BE SET AT max 266hp, Sports Medium Tires AND Honda CIVIC SiR-II (EG) '91 DRIVERS WILL GO ON TRACK.

A CIVIC 1500 driver that is not there in time cannot come in after restrictions have been set for the CIVIC SiR-II.

EVERYONE CAN DO HIS QUALIFY LAPS AFTER THIS PROCEDURE.
ONCE ON TRACK IT IS NOT ALLOWED TO GO BACK IN THE ROOM LOBBY. YOU MUST REMAIN ON TRACK
(AT LEAST GO TO THE PIT TO REPAIR YOUR CAR IF YOU DAMAGE IT).
PITTING IS ONLY ALLOWED BY MATERIALLY DRIVING INTO THE PITLANE, NOT BY HITTING THE EXIT BUTTON.

Race starting procedure as watermelon has described it.

I'll try my best to be there on time, however, my granddad is in the hospital and scheduling has been very hit and miss the past few days. Luckily he's alright.👍

Oh yes, I meant to specify again that schedule time is required arrival time for vision check. If you arrive after vision check and have invisible car problems - that is not good. If you arrive after qualifying starts, you can't race, because it's a complex process for 2-speed multi-spec race.

Arrival time 1pm US EDT / 7pm CET

This is to do vision check... warming up, etc.

Qualifying start time after warm up... Everyone must be ready & present for qualifying.

So if you arrive @ 1pm US EDT / 7pm CET ... it will be fine to join on the hour.

I do this on purpose so nobody knows "exact" race start time, and thinks they can join at last minute for race to start. LOL
So I'm not telling you exactly when we will start qualifying. ;) Just arrive on the hour or as close to as possible! :D

This will be procedure:

15 MINUTES BEFORE THE START OF THE RACE THE TRACK WILL BE RESETTED.
RESTRICTIONS WILL BE SET AT max. 128hp , min. 780kg
Sports Medium Tires

I understand very well, as I have a family member in hospital myself at the moment, which was why I wasn't sure I would make my own race!

Make it if you can. If you can arrive on the hour or within 10 minutes, it should be fine.

And best wishes for your granddad! I hope he recovers well.

lounge is open, feel free to join early to get in some practice

Also FYI: neglected to mention before in regards to Deep Forest track
Using concrete is OK. using grass before concrete is NOT OK.
You cannot have 3 wheels in the grass.
So do not mow the lawn before the concrete!

Nicely run race today. Had fun 👍, despite the fact I thoroughly despised the car.👎

No surprise but I would like to race the
1= Nissan 240ZG (HS30) '71
Nissan 350Z (Z33, US/EU) '03
sports medium
2=Honda S500 '63
Honda S2000 (US)/(EU) '99
sports medium
3=Volkswagen Karmann Ghia Coupe (Type-1) '68
Volkswagen Bora V6 4MOTION '01
comfort medium

I would choose a shorter track to get more traffic:
1= Tsukuba
2= Suzuka east
3= Autumn Ring mini.
