Vintage & Later Model 2-Speed Low HP -Civics @ Deep Forest - Planning Race #2!

Great race guys! Had fun!

Though yeah, maybe Civic isn't my favourite car. haha. Pretty cool for a 1st try with this theme though!!

Haven't had a chance to tally anything yet or whatnot, but I will post the results.
Busy time today.

And hope to see more suggestions & whatnot. I'm going to take suggestions from the list at post #2 in this thread, and then short-list for a poll. :D
More to be discussed soon on scheduling. Feel free to make suggestions on that too.

I also hope we can get some teaming next time!

Still accepting suggestions for Race #2. (Will put it to a poll once I get at least 8 suggestions. ;) I only have 6 at the moment.)

Please suggest times if you're interested in Race #2. (note time zone please)

Also accepting suggestions for models for me to look at adding to the possibility list, with a max hp of around 300hp (stock value) for the faster car. So fyi, I'm just ruling out any pairs where the faster car would be higher than 350hp in stock condition.

Maybe a new Nissan Skyline(GTR?:D) and the vintage one?

There's a bundle of Skylines... and I'm absolutely clueless about them. Please give me a couple of specific models to look at to compare to the vintage?

Nice racing everyone!

I enjoyed driving the Civic, I thought that they did pretty well at Deep Forest.

For the next race, what if it was made shorter so the Vintage models don't need to pit and have a mandatory pit stop for the newer models? Maybe this would bunch up the field to make for more passing?

GTsail

I'll look into the skylines this weekend, for now I got a suggestion of using Nissan Silvia's.
The vintage one would be the Silvia (CSP311) '65 (mine from UCD has 88 bhp, no oil changed)
The newer model possibly the Silvia K's Aero (S14) '96 (mine from UCD has 204 bhp, no oil changed)

Having race 2 around the same time would fit me just fine, but I will be on vacation from 10th of august until the 17th.

Oh yeah, I agree, I think the 70s Civic was pretty fun overall. Though I also think there's a lot of other cars I'll enjoy more.

Deep Forest is definitely the longest track I even considered. Now we know it wasn't complete mayhem, I think we can go for tighter & shorter. :)

And I'll look at that other Silvia as well, though I already had a Silvia pair picked out.
And I'd love to include a Skyline pair, but the choices were just too overwhelming, and I'm clueless about Skylines. (I don't drive them well as I've had trouble with their fish-tailing tendencies. haha.)

So based on suggestions here is the poll.
Please order these with numbers starting with #1 being your favourite choice, and so on down...

I had a weird expirience before the race..I got disconnected, the controller didnt control anything and I had to restart the whole thing. After entering the lounge I noticed my car drove like *beeeep* and went to the lobby to discover, that not only was I missing the LSD, but my suspension settings were altered! So I had to buy a new LSD and try to recreate my settings. Strangely enough made my car handle a little bit better.

During the race, I noticed GTP_akmuq and aceboy had a battle for several laps, and I hoped they would forget all about chasing me, which gave me a comforting lead 1/3 into the race.
I tried a 1 stop strategy...also known as the impossible "preserve tyres and dont crash" strategy, which almost became too exiting, as I came out less that 2 secs ahead of akmug, who was on a 2 stop strategy!
But his tyrewear was at that point slowing him down, so I resumed my "preserve tyres and dont crash" strategy. Slow in- and exit of corners. No major mistakes. And this is my hood indeed. I love the track, its where I do all my testing.
So for me, a lot of fun chasing the slower cars, nice driving everyone, I do agree with a slightly shorter track next time, like Rome or Madrid, or the reverses.

A comment about tuning. My offline tuning was WAY of online. Really distinct. I tune all FF cars, big small, powerfull, slow, with the same tune, and in a lobby finetune the cars suspension. I´ve found that almost all problems can be solved by sticking to the tune, but adjusting the front/back ride height.
So what appeard to have a nice balance offline, had terrible oversteer online! Another weird thing.

I would have come out infront of you but I went off at the final turn and hit the wall, which slowed me down considerably. I did get quite a good tire life in my second and third stints.

I'll get you next time.;)

I did notice when I was tuning the 91 Civic that at one point I got this wacky kind of oversteer at one point, and it wasn't at all helpful. haha.

And yeah, a 1 stop strategy was completely reasonable in the vintage model. But had I been in the later model, it would've been absolutely necessary for me to do 2 pit stops... if not 3. haha. I realized that early when setting up the car.
And I don't think akmuq could've done a 1-pit strategy simply because of the aggressive way I saw him taking that last turn before the straight several times. hahahaha. All I could think was that it had to really stress the tire wear.
Though Aceboy127 took that last turn the same way at least twice that I saw, but I'm unsure about how many times he'd pitted.
(I don't usually take that last turn very aggressively, because when I do, I sometimes go into the pit by mistake.)

First of all ...good race...although as usual I underacheived!

I will now attempt to enter my votes on my phone.

Wish me luck...

Just to clear up I did pit twice.

Just to clear up I did pit twice.

lol I figured you must have... But I never happened to see it.
That said, I never saw gtsail pit either... But I assumed he probably went in the same lap I did. Epicentre & I went into the pit at the same time. And jackargent was in there on the same lap.
Of course I was keeping a close eye on the map all the time to be ready for lapping cars, so I did happen to notice cars entering the pit.
Even so, CC570 crept up on me by surprise on one lap... it was like he de-cloaked like a Klingon ship. haha.

First of all ...good race...although as usual I underacheived!

Well, if it wasn't for some lapping car drama for Epicentre that threw him off his game... I would never have caught him. I had to struggle to just keep up with him most of the race.

....That said, I never saw gtsail pit either... But I assumed he probably went in the same lap I did. Epicentre & I went into the pit at the same time. .......
.

If I remember correctly, I pitted on lap # 19. I intentionally went one lap past half-way since I figured everyone would pit at the exact half-way mark. This would give me slightly fresher tires if needed towards the end of the race.:)

You have hit upon a pet peeve of mine... I wish GT5 would indicate who has entered the pits by flashing the drivers names for a few seconds when someone pits. GT4 was able to do this, why not GT5. When I'm running the 4 hour endurance race at the 'Ring, I sometimes can't tell who is pitting, and it would be useful information.

I agree. I noticed that in gt5 pretty early & was disappointed. It's right up in the top 3 of my pet peeves with things that worked in gt4 but are not in gt5. (Along with alternate saved set-ups & more realistic tire wear.)
If they could do these things in gt4... why was it not included in gt5? I don't know, & I wonder about it myself.

Don't really know about the tracks though. I think it also depends on the cars that we drive. Both the Fiat 500's would do Autumn Ring Mini easier than the 200+ bhp Japanese cars.

Well, its hard to really list my preferences because it would be best to try out each ride first and see how balanced the field might be, but I'm going to give it a whirl in any case:crazy:

Hmmm - looks as if I'll need to miss out on this one :(as I shall be away on my holidays:) over the period you are racing - Hopefully it will be such a success that you will run a second series which I can join.

Awe, sorry we'll miss you jack! But of course hope your holidays will be great! And then maybe we'll catch you again for Race #3. :D

These are my do-able ones!

Just waiting on hearing from some of the other previous participants, about the times.

Of course now I see that CC570 changed his vintage race car league day from Wednesday to Thursday! DOH! And here that's why I was choosing Thursday - and staying away from Wednesday, because I knew some of the same people (including CC570) would be interested in both races.
I actually try to take a look that I'm not trying to schedule races at the same times as other races likely to be of interest to the same people. But alas, the whole time schedule & time zone thing is very difficult management!!
I really wish everyone hosting races would use the GTP Event Calendar:
https://www.gtplanet.net/forum/calendar.php
I always use it for every race I'm hosting. It helps me keep track of things.

GTsail290, I would still like to have your tuning setup for the old civic :).

I would be happy to share it, so once I get home tonite I will find the old Civic (I think it was on my GTsail2 game) and send you its spec's. I'm not a tuner, so don't expect any magic tune. I think it was close to my "standard" tune, which means that I dial in a little more oversteer since the Civic is FWD.

Respectfully,
GTsail

Only one of the times works out for me under the assumption that it is a 2-hour event total time.

7 August Sunday 11:00am US EDT / 8:00am US PDT / 4:00pm BST/GMT+1 / 5:00pm CET

If it is only 1 hour, I can also do the 9:00 Pacific time on that day.

If this isn't working out well for others, I'll sit this event out.

Race #2 cars will be:

Vintage Model: Honda S500 '63
Later Model: Honda S2000 '06

Tire Restriction: Sports Medium
Other Restrictions: TBD

Will likely run the vintage model at maxed out. Will likely not max out the later model.

If anyone needs the vintage model, let us know, some of us have spares we're willing to share!
The later model is available in the premium dealership for a reasonable amount of credits.

Still trying to hammer out a time slot for Race #2 that suits the most interested parties, particularly from Race #1.

Tentatively trying to schedule for:
11 August Thursday 11:30am US PDT / 2:30pm US EDT / 7:30pm BST/GMT+1 / 8:30pm CET
Possibly:
10 August Wednesday 11:30am US PDT / 2:30pm US EDT / 7:30pm BST/GMT+1 / 8:30pm CET

If you can't make Race #2 in the end, my regrets! I wish we could accommodate the timing for all time zones & schedules, but alas, that's very difficult.
But there will hopefully be a Race #3 as well, and perhaps the timing could work out better then as well.

If you didn't participate in Race #1, but think you're interested in Race #2, post here, and I'll send you the track poll.
(Those who signed up for Race #1 should have received a track poll in PM already.)
