Wallbanger's Cafe & Outlaw Motorsports Garage (New Tunes 6/15/12)

Who said that? Who was so boring that they had to make that rule up?

There are many rules in reviewing, mainly of my own. Although really, if it's like a multi car road test, it's more of a 'friendly rivalry'. Anything else is just a fierce rivalry where occasionally a comparison breaks out.

Ok, now it is time for: another review!

Bluewise white Ferrari?

Alright, so we have a F430 today. Yes, like those which crashed in Japan. This car suffers from "better version" syndrome, because it has to live with the pretty face, the SP1, and the brute, the Scuderia. Which means you're going to drive those, leaving the normal version in dust. Did Onboy put some lively perfomance in this less desired Ferrari?

We're in Monza, the place for Tifosi of all countries, in the Ferrari only Festival. The Enzos dominate this event, but the Bleu horse didn't do poorly with that problem. It has more power, which means now you can feel some speed, which in turn awakens the car's handling. A gap between the Scudi and the normal version? Could be.

The handling is not full grip, though. Step out of the white line, and you'll have to deal with Sonny Corleone. When he is angry. May that stick in your mind, or else... Anyway, the car did well in the race, defeating the Enzos, even with the top speed disadvantage. A very nice GT car, pretty similar with Onboy's XK tunes. And that is not a bad thing, is it? It has the looks, it has the power and the speed to prove its worth.

Only you would invent rules for reviewing.

Or just a random gathering of cars with vague connections between them. The only ever serious fierce rivalry I've done is a JDM shootout review, otherwise, it's just a load of fast cars going fast and then sideways.

Thanks for the review, link'd. :D Anyway, yea, it does drive kinda like the XK, only when this lets go, you'd either be slightly sideways or backwards completely, though it's mostly the former. I'm surprised you beat the Enzos though…actually, I'm not, the AI is still too slow.

JDM is a good one. There's so many rivalries in JDM you could make leagues for the lot of them.

And on the subject of reviews, my Guido, Mafia HitBear review hasn't been linked yet, no Despy?

Thanks.:) Well, the AI can't handle the cornering ability of this car, or else I would be doomed.:scared::dopey: I always had the Enzo behind my tail on the straight line. By the way, I had a few ideas for cars you could do, I just don't know which one I want you to do first...

GT5 AI + piggy little Enzo = Victory in a F430 with a racing exhaust and a tune. Ok, PM them to me, I'll see what I can do and what interests me. :D

Despy has had a few issues with his Internet, you see... And I'm sugar coating it.

Afraid it won't be for a few days though as I have an old Alfa that needs tuned to run over a pesky parrot with first.:lol:

Hey!!! :dopey:

It might be awhile before I get my tune together too.

Have fun killing stuff :dopey:

Hey Onboy, What would it take too rope you into some help tunning an RS200 for the cape ring time trial? I already have the car with parts installed but the suspension and LSD/Torque Split are befuddling me as usual.

An RS200 you say? I'm not sure about tuning for TTs and time attacks, but I guess I could have a go...but as the OP states, I am just an apprentice tuner, I have much to learn.

But yea, I'll have a crack at it.

first a few words about my driving style. My practice of throttle control is gas on/gas off. My limited work on the suspension on the suspension has made it ok at best, still heavy understeer followed immediatley by drastic oversteer(i was tuning online though). Transmission is also passable at best, i understand even less about trans tuning than suspension. What i'm really hoping you can help me with is 4WD set up cuz it seems like you've done more tunes of them than anyone else here. I'm gonna put the car up on share now.

Ok, FR sent. I'll try and fix it, though I can't guarantee much, 4WD is my weak spot, as is FF, and FR…and MR cars. And of course the terror that is the RR cars.

And we've done the most? Errr…how did you make that out?

Oh, and I've just golded the 500PP TT in a Focus ST with a ludicrous tune! *feels proud*

I did, had too buy a second mustang, but i did. That is a fantastic tune tris, The transmision is spot on. I have already tweaked the suspension too suit my driving style but i don't think i would have got there without your great base tune.👍👍

My pleasure mate. It surprised me no end the other night when I took it online in a 500PP race at Laguna, and managed to just best a better driver in an NSX RM...

Hmmm…I have no clue what you're on about. It's actually alright to drive. Nothing awful to report at all, bar the bit of understeer and oversteer when your throttle finger gets a bit trigger happy. I'll have a go at the gearbox, but the diff isn't actually that bad.

Good im going the right direction with it, even a blind squerall finds a nut occasionally i guess. The suspension setup i had pushes through corners too much for my taste, but like you said, i'm sure my granite throtttle finger has something too do with it,:mischievous:

Okay so I started tuning the old Alfa spider today for the CotW/Tuner Wars showdown...

At 400PP was like stealing candy from baby's in the various seasonal challenges.

Things were looking good.

So I upgraded to 420PP and headed to the ring.

Once there I found myself incapable of actually driving apparently as after 4 hours I've managed 1 green lap of 8:30.xxx despite having 2 massive spinouts, both of which ended in the barriers...

So if I can figure out how to drive again tomorrow and settle the spider down a little more it should easily be good for a sub 8 minute time. Not bad for a 420PP car on Sports Soft tires!👍👍

ok Harvey i am back.

Whats been happening since i left? what crap cars you been tuning?

An Alfa, a Daihatsu Box, a Toyota 2000GT, a Storia X4, a Jaguar XKR R Performance and a XKR '10. So some old cars and some new ones with the odd crapper here and there.

woah a Jaguar XKR R Performance and a XKR '10? cool i was wondering if these are any good to race online i have them in my garage but i was put of by the weight of them... and think the understeer like a warus trying to catch a goldfish, for dinner.

:sly:ACSR421 - hello mate you still around???? maybe Harveys cars don't interest you much but can i request a tune? for a R390 GTI Roadcar??? do you have one?

The XKR '10 "Apex Predator" might be okay online with minor adjustment. The XKR R Performance "Excalibur" is probably an oversteering mess.

@C-ZETA can you either post the link or pm it to me please?

@Niku was there a review that you had scheduled for this last weekend that got delayed for some reason?:odd:

what adjustment? it always confuses me why the cars have to be tuned differently online and offline stupid PD:crazy:
More rear downforce to help keep the rear in check and maybe slightly softer front springs so its not as twitchy. I hardly ever run online so I can only suggest possible aids to fixing things.:crazy:

Ok, time for another review. But this one comes with a twist!

The XK battle! Onboy vs Harvey (in a friendly manner, of course.:sly:)

So without further ado, let's get going!

In this one, we have 4 Jaaaaags. The old generation, represented by Excalibur and XKR CS, and the new one, with the Apex Predator and the Luxury edition. Let's compare them, based on a few pointers.

Design

Old generation: Ahhhh.... Ok, not much to see here, because the two cars look the exact same! It's not a bad look, mind you, but there is not much that makes them different enough for me to note. They even have the same rims!

New generation: Ok, that's better. The Apex and the Lux have their own way to express themselves. The Luxoflux is restrained, without flashy rims or huge wings, just a unaltered example of Brit design. The Apex just shouts "I'm a race car, yo!", in a nutshell. I like the neat OG looks of Onboy's car the most.

Driving

Old Generation: Onboy's CS: Alright, time to take it to the track. Onboy's old XK is for those who like the laid back driving style. A GT in the old fashion manner, with plenty of speed, but also with lots of smoke, for the fun factor. It is competitive in all ways, but the best way to enjoy it is by driving like Clarkson and make friends with Lotta Smoke. A real fun car.

Excalibur: Maaaaaaaaaaad! Expect this from both of Harvey's XK's. He wants only the best racing perfomance, and it shows. This sword of a car is dang quick, and snaps your virtual neck with that speed. A precise tool to make LMP's shiver with fear? You bet your pants, friend! Although they might get brown from driving this here Jag...

New generation:

Lux XK: Ah, the modern wonders of... smoking? Yap. With this car it is that way. It has a sharper handling, indeed, but it will go sideways if you screw it up. But it is fun sliding, because the XK of the India era are GT's with natural sliding ability. A better XK, but it still has the leather to pamper you. A great improvement over the original car.

Apex Predator: Oh. My. God. And that is it, ladies and gen... oh, right. First of all things, this car has break-your-neck accel. And I mean it. This thing blasts through gears, like I blast through a CBO menu at Mcdonalds, which is pretty fast, if translation is needed. Like Excalibur, this one is for the specialists in racing. It is fast, and eats them corners with super sharp handling. Of course, like the Excalibur, it will kill you, if you go noob-mode. A super scary car, and only the Spectre surpasses it in the OMG factor. A amazing race car disguised as a Jag.

In the end, the best car is the one that suits your driving style. Cliche, I know, but there is no other way. If you want fun, go for Onboy's, if you want race cars, go for Harvey's. 'Nuff said.

Thanks for the great reviews Niku.👍👍

May just be me and my less than stellar driving but I personally felt the "Apex Predator" was actually a calmer, easier drive than the "Excalibur" despite being faster.:odd:

Of course the wing out back helps tame the rear a bit which is why its there... I'm guessing that if you put the matching wing on the "Excalibur" it would have nearly identical performance only losing out slightly on the acceleration and top speed to the newer XKR.

Now to find the time to tune the XJ13 Race Car '66 sitting in my garage and my part of the Outlaws Jag festival will be completed.:gtpflag:

Oh and an update on my "Sabretooth"...:embarrassed:
