Sea Venom FAW.20: Two-seated Jet-Fighter
The British Sea Venom FAW.20 carrier-based jet fighter will be another new addition in War Thunder 1.57. Meet the first two-seater Whistle in the game!

The carrier-based Sea Venom FAW.20 fighter appeared as a version of the two-seater (seats for the pilot and radar operator) ground-launched Venom NF.Mk2 fighter, fitted with radar equipment. At the request of the navy, the base interceptor was equipped with an arrestor hook, a “folding” mechanism to store the wings for convenient storage on aircraft carriers, and a tail bumper to protect the tail unit from strikes on the deck. The aircraft completed testing and went into service with the “all-weather fighter” designation (FAW – Fighter, All-Weather). This unusual two-seater aircraft is coming to War Thunder with update 1.57.

The Sea Venom model has been recreated by the War Thunder model artists in all its glory. Here we can see the unusually shaped arrestor hook, the complex wing “folding” mechanism and the large flaps with two-piece air brakes.

It is worth mentioning separately the function of wing retracting mechanism. The fighter was stored on an aircraft carrier in this way between flights to allow easy handling and better storage. This feature is not currently implemented in the game, but the in-game models are constructed with a view to improvement and addition in the future.

Four automatic 20 mm caliber Hispano Mk V cannons are mounted in the nose of the fighter. And of course, the aircraft’s main feature – a two-seater cabin, with the crew (pilot and radar operator) seated next to each other.

In War Thunder, the Sea Venom will appear at rank V of the British tree representing the Fleet Air Arm (RN). The de Havilland Ghost engine is capable of powering the aircraft to a very respectable speed of just over 620 mph(1,000 km/h), and the 4 rapid-firing Hispano cannons with 150 shots each allow it to deal with any opponent it meets in the sky.

Most importantly - Nigel, in his role as co-pilot will receive an up-to-date flight suit with this update!

The kind, starry-eyed gaze and encouraging smile of the radar operator sitting to the right of the pilot during gameplay from the cockpit is provided as a priceless bonus to all Sea Venom pilots. Meet the first two-seater jet-powered fighter in War Thunder update 1.57!

The Tiger II Sla.16 – a premium rank IV tank. This model differs from its popular War Thunder ancestor the “King Tiger” Pz.Kpfw.VI Ausf.B (H) – it has a more powerful engine, a well protected turret and it provides a greater income of Research Points and Silver Lions. The engine allows the tank to leave cover and take a shot far more quickly and then return back to cover after its attack.

I'm actually enjoying flying the Me 410 in a way that it probably shouldn't be flown. Above 10,000ft and engaging lower bombers and fighters. Everyone else that I see fly it goes low and attacks ground units. If I'm going to get shot down anyway, I might as well make it into a fight. Stock belts suck though. :indiff:

GG indeed. Finally got this plane and other than it's tendency for flat spins it has been a dream.👍

They really need to spawn the heavy bombers much higher, at least 8-10k feet starting altitude. With as slow as they climb, one person can head off and come from the top and destroy them with cannons.

Sure, the games last 1 hour, but you get nothing done other than doing circles over and over.

Indeed. I can feel my beard grow while that goes on..

I mean I might just set up my joystick again just to get trim so I can, oh I don't know... Do something worth while with my life. I mean leaving the gunners on auto at least on the B17G will shred anything, but so far the B24 is being a pain in the ass to learn.

Most games have a time limit of 60 minutes, but I've never been in a match that lasts longer than 40-45 minutes. Some maps even have a 25 minute time limit.

Nor have I, but if you're telling me that a bomber gets to start out 3-4k feet AGL and fighters can climb to that, and more tan 5x that in the amount of time it takes to just get to 10,000... Then something is extremely wrong.

Most of the times I'll head 90 degrees from the objective, and hug the side, but that doesn't always work.

Squire had a good video somewhere (might be the B29 but I don't have that aircraft) detailing why we climb and climb and climb and never come back down, but with low payloads that don't pay out hardly anything, it's pointless and a waste of time.

Both Magz and Squier have detailed why bombers do what they do. Maybe even TheOrangeDoom as well. I've pretty much stopped flying bombers in air battles unless the game gives me one of those warbond missions for X ground units destroyed with a bomber.

I think I spent a match in low ranks where I got back to the airfield, respawned, was about to get going again when the enemy started swooping down on me, so I kept jumping out of the plane and respawning as they did that. It's a bit of a dick move, I know, but this was also before the AAA was buffed out of this world.

I, like most everyone else, would rather not have to pay a repair bill because the rest of the team got themselves killed. In that match, I thought I could get back into the air and get the last remaining ground units to win the game.

You can, but you have to land and fully repair/rearm and get respawned before you J out, otherwise it counts as you forfeiting the plane.

You can do so to change armament during a battle.

Not back in the air, at least I don't think so... it might be possible. Not really sure on that.

Also, if you're the last player alive and take too long to get back into the plane, the tickets will start to drain.

Only thing I don't have binded to the DS4 is the trim for the control surfaces. I don't fly sim so it's not that necessary, and any plane that doesn't fly level, I just move the analog stick so it does. Haven't encountered many planes that don't stay level in flight.

Nashorn: the German ‘Rhinoceros’
The Nashorn self-propelled gun is a variant of a mobile tank destroyer with a threatening 88 mm cannon – new to War Thunder 1.57.

The Sd.Kfz. 164 Nashorn (German: Rhinoceros) is a continuation of the German idea of self-propelled guns with an open cabin that were designed to destroy enemy tanks from ambush and camouflaged positions. This time, the engineers created a unified self-propelled gun carriage based on the Panzerkampfwagen III and IV, equipping it with a lightly armoured cabin. The chief advantage of this self-propelled gun was the famous 88 mm Pak43 cannon, which could destroy any Soviet or Allied tank of the time.

Hitler approved of the vehicle, but after it began to be mass produced, he renamed the vehicle by special command – initially, it bore the name Hornisse (Hornet). This change may have been because the German army already had one ‘hornet’ – the Me 410 heavy fighter (well known to all War Thunder pilots), while there was not yet a ‘rhinoceros’. The Hornet / Rhinoceros fought on the Eastern and Western fronts and in Italy, it went on to be produced practically until the end of the war.

The Nashorn is a famous representative of Germany’s SPG line with an open cabin. The Nashorn’s self-propelled carriage was created by engineers from the Alkett-Borsingwalde company, and it later became the basis for the Hummel self-propelled gun. The chassis was built with components and units of the modified Panzerkampfwagen III and IV tanks, and the most significant difference from the Panzer chassis was the increased length of the hull and the placement of the engine almost in the very center of the SPG. This was done to correct the vehicle’s centre of gravity relative to the placement of the cannon. It is clearly noticeable on the model that the radiator grill is now located in the center of the hull.

The crew compartment of the open cabin was designed for three crew members. The cabin also housed the Nashorn’s ammunition complement of 40 shells.

The 88 mm Pak43 gun is one of the best in the history of the Second World War. War Thunder players know this gun from other German armoured vehicle models – the Tiger II, the Jagdpanther and the Ferdinand. This incredibly accurate, long-range and destructive weapon is capable of destroying any vehicle at its rank, even with a frontal strike against. It’s a true sniper rifle among tank cannons!

The Nashorn will appear in the game at rank III in the German tech tree. The weak armour of the cabin will require careful consideration when positioning and control over the situation on the battlefield – any shell or an aerial cannon burst that lands in the cabin is almost guaranteed to deal critical damage or even destroy the SPG. However, the excellent Pak43 cannon, available to tanks and heavy SPGs only at rank IV, makes up for the paper-thin armour. Any opponent it encounters can be destroyed without difficulty, often with a single shot. Meet the German ‘Rhinoceros’ in War Thunder update 1.57. See you on the battlefields!
