Anyway, I thought this was an "engines" list? Why are there so many negatives associated with the cars it's in, or the gearbox it's attached to?
 
Who knows. However, if I had to pick a winner, it would definitely be Honda's 3.0 V6 with the electric motor. Best of both worlds overall. Combinations like that are gonna bring a lot more people into the "hybrids are Ok" mindset. On that note....why is the Hemi 5.7 a winner? Chevrolet has been getting far better hp/tq out of their 5.7 for much longer...
 
The Hemi 5.7L incorporates fuel saving technology, and they said their judges placed an emphasis on that.
 
Even though, in the test results I've seen, the cylinder deactivation only gained ~3 MPG ... Hardly the 20% increase they advertise ...
 
It seems to me that a 340-horsepower 5.7-liter V8 in a vehicle like the Dodge Durango or Jeep Grand Cherokee would put out about 15mpg; a gain of 3mpg would be a 20% increase exactly, right? The real cylinder-deactivation lie comes from GM's 5.3L V8; the EPA re-rated the engine from 14/18 MPG to 14/19 because of the "feature."

i wonder if the SRT-8 engine coming up will make that list sometime

Interesting. Honda got quite a few in the list, but the 2.2L from the S2000 didn't make the cut. I guess having the highest HP / L ratio of any current production engine isn't good enough anymore. And it's only second to the 2L version which powers the S2000 in the rest of the world.

Stupid list.

The 2.0 L is much better than the 2.2 L IMO. Its also almost undrivable on publicroads, unless you want ot luanch every time.

Ford could've included a lot of things in the new Mustang (Independent Rear Suspension, the DOHC variant of the Modular 4.6 liter V8, etc.), but most of them would've raised the cost significantly ...

Right now, the only thing that offers near the performance for the price of the Mustang is the 350Z ($26,750 MSRP, almost $2,000 more than the Mustang) ...

The SRT-4 starts at $21,195, but it's only 230 hp, front-wheel drive, and is basically a souped-up Neon ...
The S2000 starts at $33,150 ...
The RX-8 starts at $27,435 (for the manual), but is only 238 hp ...
The GTO starts at $32,995 and that doesn't include the $1300 gas-guzzler tax ...
The WRX STi starts at $32,995 ...
The Evo VIII starts at $30,695, but everyone has said you can't find it for anwhere near MSRP (it's not available in Canada, so I wouldn't know) ...

Ford doesn't have the money to cut profits on anything, especially the Mustang, which is probably their best nontruck vehicle that last 10 years. IRL isn't going to happen for a while. :)
 
I would say my favorite from the list is the Nissan V6. 👍 If I had the cash, I'd gladly trade my Sentra in for a 3.5 Altima. Actually, make that the Altima SE-R. 💡
