This is why we need E.T. bracket racing. To prevent everyone from using the same car.

Yes it would be nice but imagine the confusion it would bring to people not knowing how to do it, setting dial-ins, breaking out... everyone will be switching to auto trans for consistency. A much more complicated timing system is needed too over straight heads up drags.

Not bashing your idea, I'd love it too, but just don't think it would work well.

It could bring some confusion, yes, but they could eliminate much of it by carefully explaining in the game.

I've just gotten back into playing IHRA Drag Racing (bracket game for PC), and it's very in-depth. You can use a line lock, trans brake, three-step, delay box and throttle stop. You can choose between a .400 or .500 pro tree, .500 or .400 sportsman tree, and set your dial-in. After a run you get the elapsed time, how far off you were from your dial, reaction time, 60 foot time, rollout time etc etc.

I'm not saying PD should go this far, but if an old game like IHRA can handle all those things, PD should be able to at least give us the dial-in bit along with a correct timing system (handicap start and so on).

Maybe if they made a dedicated drag race pack, then it should curb some confusion and mayhem, Only people serious enough to buy it would be racing proper drags, and the not so serious can stay at Indy playing bumper cars.

At least we got something. PD didn't have to give us anything.

Coooool. But it's 5 bucks :( Not sure if my parents would let me get it lol.
It's less than a meal at McDonald's for crying out loud, and unlike a meal at McDonald's you don't swallow it, crap it out and flush it down your toilet.

dear drag racers, I am a noob in drag racing but I understand the basics, can I ask what the big appeal is?

1. isnt shifting relatively easy? sure, you may have some slip ups but compared to an actual race around the track which has more room for errors?
2. with gt5, the amount you can change on the car will be quite different to real life so its pretty much stock car vs stock car with limited differences between gear ratio etc?

No shifting isn't easy. You have to know when exactly to shift at the right times. Know your car.
Yes but those differences can be very difficult to beat when someone is faster than you.

Shifting is not the most important bit. I'd say that reaction time is. Have a good car, get a good reaction time, shift good, keep the car straight and hope that the driver in the other lane is not as good as you.

Jesus, ignorance in action in that forum...

I was the one who made that thread.

But it was a genuine question as to what is drag racing. Wasn't trying to pay it out.

is cockyness and stupidity also a trait in most drag racers or just you? :)

Thanks to all the other drag racers in explaining the finer traits of the sport.

I have never drag raced in the game, simply because the so called "drag racing" being done at the moment is nothing like real life drag racing. Umtil we get a proper drag strip with a tree I'll stay out of it.

HELLO?? We did get a drag strip, just without a tree and reaction time is out of the equation. But we did get an OFFLINE drag strip. The pavement is there. Offline. There IS a drag strip. Its drag racing against yourself; against your own time.

It's not a drag strip. It's the straight away of Route X, on which you can get your 1/4 mile time, that's it. If that's drag racing to you, you got a pretty wrong idea of what drag racing is...

Wikipedia explains pretty good what a drag strip is:
Wikipedia
A dragstrip is a straight, purpose-built racetrack, typically an eighth or a quarter of a mile long (660/1320 feet, 201/402 metres), with an additional shutdown area to allow vehicles room to stop after crossing the finish line. Common features also include a 'water box' where vehicles and motorcycles start their burn-outs to clean and heat up their tires to improve traction. There is a set of lights known as a 'Christmas Tree' that counts down to the start. There are also return lanes for the vehicles to return from the end of the track to the pit area.

If everyone calls it “the drag strip”… they will come ;) well almost everyone

they, meaning us, it may just be a 400meters straight to you, but for us guys that spend a lot of time drag racing, for us it's a drag strip, now stfu and stop being so fking negative :l

I'm not negative. I'm just saying. No matter what you guys think, my point still stands. I'm looking forward to the DLC too, because even though it's not a drag strip, it's nice to have a test course again.
