Team Colours
Drivers will race in country colours of their choice, from the list below, in teams of from one to three cars.
Cobra 427 Colours Chromeline.jpg

The main car for the series is the Shelby Cobra 427 Chromeline, however if drivers fancy a different challenge and have sufficient funds they can use a Sheby Cobra Daytona Coupe on a lower spec tyre.

Car Choices - Tuning Prohibited (oil change allowed)

Choose one of the following:

Cobra 427 Chromeline - Sports Medium tyres - Power Limit 335bhp

OR

Cobra Daytona Coupe - Sports Hard tyres - Power Limit 400bhp

Paint and wheels
Cars must be painted in your country team colour and fitted with your race number type A, font A (inexplicably race numbers cannot be fitted to the Coupe).
Wheels can be standard OR changed for 2 bar wire wheels and painted silver, black or body colour OR changed to PD P525N wheels painted silver.

Championships
Separate championships are scored for the two cars as well as a Team championship. If you are racing in a team you may want to compete in both car classes - but this is optional as you may prefer to race your team mate in the same car.

Note - you cannot change your car during the series.

Licences - Sick Cylinder Racing has used a system of Licenses which enable competitive multi-class racing to take place. Licenses are not relevant to this championship and will therefore be reviewed during the course of this championship ready for application in time for the next championship (Historic BSCC 3) to which they will be relevant. All Platinum Drivers will remain on Platinum, but Gold and Silver drivers will have their licenses reviewed and adjusted up or down based on performance and numbers.

NOTE: The license grade is awarded based on previous performance in one of Sick Cylinder's championships. Platinum Drivers have won a championship, Gold Drivers have shown consistent speed. New Drivers normally start at Silver. Sick Cylinder is not fast and therefore remains Silver.

NOTE: the Feature Race may be shortened to keep the meeting on schedule, for example if problems with disconnections are being experienced. Please help by clearing your cache before entering the room and ensuring that your cars are painted in the correct colours, with race numbers fitted (if possible) and ready to race. Please also ensure that your PS3 is hard wired to your router (or if this is not possible is connected by power link adapters).

Please let me know your race number and colour choice (Country Team) as soon as possible.

World Championship Teams
All events are scored as individual championships, but to add extra excitement Drivers choose a team which can have a minimum of 1 and a maximum of 3 members. Points from the highest placed car in each team are scored towards the Team Trophy which is totalled from all races.

In the 1960's, before advertising on cars, drivers raced cars in country colours which helped spectators know who to cheer. Drivers can choose any of the ten Team / Country colours shown in the colour guidance near the bottom of this post - Reserve Drivers must paint their cars Hugger Orange and race for Holland. Note - you do not have to choose your country of birth or residence - you can choose any from the list provided the team does not exceed three members.

Colour Guidance / Team Colours for all cars
Note, Reserve Drivers represent Holland and therefore drive Hugger Orange cars - this paint is a Chevrolet colour available by purchasing a Camaro Z28 1969.

Retro Outfits Poster.jpg

Dear Racers - I have produced the above poster to help our races and photos look more retro and therefore realistic.

In future when racing in one of my championships please wear one of the six outfits shown above. Note - you can wear any of the six outfits with any of the car colours, the above combinations are purely illustrative. The GT Academy suit looks good with all cars and all colours!

The above poster will also be reproduced at the start of each championship thread.

If anyone is not sure how to obtain the outfits in the game or how to get your avatar to wear them, I will be happy to help. Note - it is quick and easy to change outfits if you need to wear a different one for other series.

GT Planet OLR Rules
All drivers are expected to follow the GT Planet OLR Rules - in addition the following rules will apply.

Rules

Races will be held each Wednesday from 20:30-21:30 BST. (when daylight saving time, known as BST finishes at the end of October meetings will start at 20:30 GMT).

The race meeting will last for slightly less than 1 hour. If the meeting is over running (perhaps due to disconnections) the Host may shorten the Feature Race as appropriate.

Race 1 - the Qualification Race - will commence as soon as possible after 20:35 with grid order fastest first. The Feature Race will be in previous race finish order.

Each race will be on the tyres specified with no driving aids except optional ABS (which most drivers set to 1), edge grip will be real and race starts will have false start check. Penalties off, slipstream real, no boost. Driving Line will be available if required and may be advisable on the custom tracks.

Some of us have been racing every Sunday since the beginning of GT5 i.e. about five years. All drivers are expected to drive in a considerate, careful and mature manner - this includes always driving in the correct direction and no doughnuts (donuts). All ability levels are welcome, from beginner to advanced.

All Drivers are expected to follow the hosts instructions regarding the race meeting at all times or in his absence the instructions of the Deputy Host (Note, Deputy Hosts include @LexLathor and @IfAndOr)

The Cars: - No wings or spoilers can be added unless specifically stated.

Paint should be in age appropriate colours e.g. solid or metallic only, no chrome or polarized finishes. Colour guidance must be followed if it is given.

Race numbers must be fitted (if the vehicle allows for this) and must be Type A, Font A.

Deputy Hosts / Stewards
@LexLathor @IfAndOr @Flaco13 @eran0004 @tarnheld

Photographs
Photographs of the race action are positively encouraged. Race reports and photographs taken by the official race photographers (@IfAndOr and @LexLathor ) and @John Wells will be published in this thread.

Signups
Please sign up by sending a message to Sick_Cylinder via your Playstation 3 or via GTPlanet. Note: Drivers already competing in the current championships hosted by Sick Cylinder are automatically signed up.

There will be up to 13 regular drivers in the championships plus up to 9 reserve drivers.

Absence / Unable to attend races
If you know that you will be unable to attend certain rounds please inform the Host. It may then be possible for a reserve driver to fill your slot on the grid. If you no longer wish to participate in the championship the first reserve driver will fill your grid slot and will drive the same type of car.

Reserve Drivers
If the grid is full you can sign up to be a reserve driver. You will be able to race when a regular driver is absent and the grid therefore has a vacant slot. If a regular driver leaves the championship you will be offered that drivers slot and will become a regular driver using the same type of car as the original regular driver was using (or was scheduled to use).

If a driver is absent for three consecutive rounds he will be deemed to have become a reserve driver.

Questions
If you have questions regarding the races or comments about quality of driving or other problems etc, please raise these after the meeting with the Host Sick_Cylinder via your Playstation 3 or via the conversation facility on GTPlanet. Please do not raise complaints during the meeting as this is very distracting for other drivers. Also it is best to raise points with a cool head after having had time to consider the matter.

It is best to reserve postings on this thread for race photos, race reports, links to good tunes or other helpful tips on cars in the car list. Posts about motorsport, cars, motorbikes or other motorised vehicles are also welcome if they are likely to be of interest to GT Planet readers.

Room Etiquette / Voice chat - this section only applies when voice is enabled (Currently we are running with voice disabled as this appears to reduce disconnections by allowing more bandwidth for racing).

If drivers speak to each other they should use the PSN name even if they know the drivers real name. All conversations should be in English. Please refrain from talking during races or qualifying as some drivers may find it distracting.

If Voice chat is enabled during races, the purpose of the voice chat is to enable the leaders to indicate when they are approaching and about to lap another driver. The horn can also be used by the lead driver when about to lap another driver. No offence should be taken by the use of the horn - in this case it is purely a warning signal. To avoid confusion the horn should not be used at any other time including while stationary on the grid. Some drivers do not have microphones or their spoken English may not be good - this does not matter and they will not be discriminated against - they can use the horn to warn the driver in front that they are about to lap. Use of the horn for any purpose other than that outlined may result in a warning and or penalty.

Voice chat will also enable a driver to indicate if he intends to carry out a pitstop. The procedure will be that at the start of the lap on which he intends to pit, the driver will say his name and that he is pitting at the end of this lap. He will also say that he is about to pit when approaching the pit lane. The driver will also announce when he has left the pits and rejoined the track - while doing so he will endeavour to stay inside the white lines when rejoining.

For example in my case on crossing the start line I would say "Sick pitting on lap ten". On approaching the pits I would say "Sick entering Pits". On rejoining the race I would say "Sick rejoining race". If a driver is about to be lapped, he should hold a steady course and if possible momentarily lift off the throttle so that the faster driver can pass.

Race Room Settings
Start type = Grid start with false start check (this means hold car still with brake until start)
Grid order = Fastest First (this means start in order of practise lap time)
Boost = off
Penalty = Off (for some tracks this may be switched to on)
Tyre / Fuel depletion = normal (try to avoid drifting round corners)
Grip reduction on track edge = real
Minimum number of pit stops = as specified (Note we are currently not using pit stops as we have suffered from the "Trapped in Pits Bug" on many occasions).
Require tyre type change = off (this means you can stick with one grade of tyre)
Race finish delay = 180 seconds (there will be a wide range of abilities of driver) - NB this is not used when Endurance is selected.
Visible damage = off (this prevents spoiling the look of photos)
Mechanical Damage = Light (if you have a crash it will self repair after a few moments)
Slipstream strength = Real
Tyre = As specified
Nitrous = Prohibited
Vehicle Tuning = Prohibited
Skid recovery force = prohibited
Active steering = prohibited
Active stability management = prohibited
Driving line = available if required
Traction control = prohibited
ABS = available if required (if racing without ABS, please take extra care not to skid into other cars)

PIT STOPS - IMPORTANT INFORMATION - Note Compulsory pit stops not currently in use.
There will be one compulsory pitstop to change tyres in races exceeding 20 minutes in duration unless stated otherwise. If compulsory pit stops are in use tyre wear will be set to fast.

If you fail to take a pitstop and pitstops have been set to compulsory, the game will automatically give you a 50 second penalty.

You can take your pitstop on any lap apart from the last lap.

If you take a compulsory pitstop on the last lap the host will give you a 30 second penalty (Unfortunately this is necessary due to an error in GT6 which fails to conduct a proper length pitstop on the final lap).

No pit stops will be held if the track does not have a pit lane (e.g. London) and tyre wear will be slowed from fast to normal.

Championship points
The MotoGP points system will be used:

1st = 25
2nd = 20
3rd = 16
4th = 13
5th = 11
6th = 10
7th = 9
8th = 8
9th = 7
10th = 6
11th = 5
12th = 4
13th = 3
14th = 2
15th = 1
16th = 0

In the event of a points tie the champion will be the driver with the greatest number of 1st place finishes - if this is tied, it will be the driver with the greatest number of second place finishes etc. and so on.

Bad internet connections / PS3 Problems
If the Host is disconnected by an internet or PS3 problem, the Deputy Host (@LexLathor will Host the meeting. If Lex Lathor is disconnected the meeting will be hosted by one of the other Stewards - these include: Flaco, Eran, IfAndOr, Tarnheld.

If a driver leaves the Feature Race race after it has started the Host will award points equal to a last place finish.

The points from the lowest scoring round will be dropped - this enables racers to either have a bad race or miss a race without being penalised.

If a driver has a bad connection such that his or her car is lagging excessively and unpredictably the Host may ask the driver to leave and re-enter the room.

To reduce the risk of bad internet connections all drivers should empty their system cache before the race meeting starts and before re-entering the room if disconnected.

Practise - A series of practise / test races will be held during Round 0 - these are not part of the championship, but are an opportunity to check room settings and test cars. After the championships have been completed another practise / test meeting / Round 0 will be held before the start of the next championship.

I said that the number #5 would be my choice, in case if my number #1 choice isn't approved.

Anyways, I thought that the GT40 would be present in the series.

Which one is the fastest? The Cobra with CM tires? Or the Cobra Chrome Line with CS Tires? I'm stuck on choosing them.

Chromeline:
+ Good grip at low speeds
+ Flat power curve, due to the power limiter
+ Higher top speed / better high speed acceleration? (as it has no downforce - I haven't tested this though)
- Reduced grip at high speeds
- Requires careful throttle control on corner exit

Daytona:
+ Good grip at high speeds
- Reduced grip at low speeds
- Low torque (well, relative to the Chromeline) and few gears makes it a bit sluggish off the grid
- Lower top speed / worse high speed acceleration?

The Chromeline will be better in low speed corners and on long straights. The Daytona will be better in high speed corners. In medium speed corners they perform about the same.

The Chromeline is fast when you drive it at 90% of your capacity. At 100% it becomes pretty scary... The Daytona is able to match the Chromeline, but you need to drive it at 100%. On the other hand, it's not as scary to drive flat out as the Chromeline is.

Daytona Coupe, #25 Team Greece

Welcome to CrazyJohn !

Hi Harsk - It was important to simplify the series so car changes were eliminated and also the GT40 was dropped. We will use it in a future series.

I think Eran is accurate with his assessment. The handling of the Daytona Coupe is better than the Cobra Chromeline so it is more controllable at the limit. There will be two championships running simultaneously so I am hoping that the number of cars of each type is roughly the same. Plus there is also the Team championship.

Hi Harsk - (and all other Racers) I did more testing this afternoon and have revised the limits slightly - I think the cars should now be as equal as possible on our track list.

Cobra Daytona Coupe 400bhp on Comfort Medium

Cobra 427 Chromeline 335bhp on Comfort Soft

The Daytona has a higher cornering speed and the comfort medium tyres help to make the cars more even. The Cobra Chromeline has a lot more torque and an extra gear for better acceleration, but the new limit for it of 335bhp makes the cars very evenly matched, especially on the sort of slower tracks that we are using.

I could even try the Chromeline first...

EDIT: I will use the Chromeline version.

Sorry for late response, i'll miss the test day but after that i'm in! If anybody needs a driver for their country i'll be glad to help out, else i would choose Italy -- we need more red cars! :D I'm tending to the open top Cobra! :dopey:

Team UK needs a 2nd driver. 👍

Can I pick the number #6 Sebastien Loeb?

Yes - any driver can pick any of the 6 outfits - please use the same one in Wednesday Cobras and Friday Rockets. The race numbers and colours are also the same across both series - this makes life easier for me. Note - colours are different if someone is a Reserve in one series in which case they will race as a Reserve in Orange for Holland.

I will put you down as Italian red with IfAndOr, but if you change your mind just let me know.

Okay, thanks.

Will be there any prizes for this series like the Boss 302 Challenge Cup?

Sorry Sick, the Italian team will be missing from the test day I think. I've just remembered I'm double booked on Wednesday! I'm racing in a pre-aranged one off shuffle club special - the same as Tarn I think.

Like Tarn I should be there next week though. Red cars don't need any practice anyway, they are always faster. :)

Well, it'll be hard to attend these since it starts at 12:30 AM for me. Though, I have this week and the next one off so I'll be able to attend test day and round 1. I'll try to join whenever I can in the future though. I'll go with team France if it's alright.

After further testing I have decided to change the tyre grades to Sports Medium for the Cobra 427 Chromeline and Sports Hard for the Daytona Coupe.

@IfAndOr if you and @tarnheld are able to attend late, that will be fine - if not see you at Round 1.

I have decided to switch to the Daytona Coupe as it seems most people are opting for the Cobra 427 Chromeline and I want to get more variety on the grid. Everyone else use whichever you prefer driving.

To give you more variety, on sports hard I'll probably run the Daytona as well then @Sick Cylinder . I was having problems with understeer on the CM's. I hopefully should be able to hit the apex instead of the verge now. I'll give it a quick try out later.

A question some may have. If we find we aren't liking our cars can we change over (once) mid season? Or would that spoil your results?

You can change after Round 0 i.e. before Round 1. The only way to do a car change fairly would be to schedule one halfway through, but this championship was planned for 11 rounds. I didn't want to force a car change because not everyone has the Daytona Coupe and it is quite expensive, plus I wanted to keep this championship and the Rocket one as simple as possible.

Regarding the understeer - it might get worse with grippier tyres, but it should improve the braking and make it easier to stay on the track - helpful with unfamiliar custom tracks - I am expecting you to win at your own tracks!
