Wednesday Cobras 20:30-21:30 BST Congratulations Champion EranFinished

Maiwald Ring.
Today was the first time team holland were able to get track time on Maiwald Ring.
To start with Hollands times were poor and we couldn't even get under 3mins a lap. Somehow Holland managed to learn the track and discover it's amazing flow leading to shaving 15secs off per lap.

As usual Holland was nowhere near the German (simba) or American (eran) teams but due to team USAs unlucky engine failure and the fact that many of the other teams transport got stuck in force 8 gales and were unable to attend, Holland managed their first ever podium and a second place!!!!

Excellent track eran:tup::bowdown:....I really didn't like it at the start but really enjoyed it by the end. Great battles with Sick and Tarn in qualifying and the main race.
Can you believe I forgot to save the replay!!!!!:banghead::dopey:

Looking forward to Rockets around Maiwald on Friday.

A great track, with exciting racing, good clean driving, but lots of action and overtaking. The superb "Maiwald" track by Eran was a rightful winner of our track making competition and is exciting with any car, fast or slow - we will definitely be using this track again. The turnout for the meeting was disappointing, but enabled some of the slower drivers such as myself to score some solid points. I felt very sorry for Eran who was racing at his own track and driving superbly, but was having disconnection problems. SimbaLora was also driving well and with Eran's retirement scored the win.

Below Championship Points table: SimbaLora has taken over the lead. Eran is second (as per the rules he is credited with a last place finish following his disconnection), with Sutsagrd in third and leading Cobra Chromeline driver. Note with one dropped score and only two rounds completed the championship is still wide open. Anyone who is thinking of joining - we have space for you and you can still win the championship if you join at round three or if you are a slower driver like myself you can enjoy racing further down the grid.

Supported Car: Aston Martin DB5 and DB4 GT Lightweight

As a child Aston Martin was my favourite car and I am lucky enough to have been a passenger in both DB5 and DB6 versions - I remember the smell of the leather, the air of quality, the incredible sound of the straight six engine, the shove in the back when accelerating and the feeling of being in one of the most desirable cars on the road. Maybe there is a chance that we might get a DB5 in the game as it features on page one of the most liked car suggestions with 292 likes. To increase the chances please click on the link and like.

Hopefully we get a DB5 with enough options to enable us to recreate the fabulous factory lightweight racers (DB4 GT Lightweights) campaigned by the Aston Martin Works Team in 1963 managed by John Wyer who later took control of the GT40 team for Ford. Like that suggestion here:

Next Round 3 Shortun - Custom track by IfAndOr
A superb short track with elements of the best bits from Laguna Seca and Tsukuba. We need more drivers - sign up now for great racing and maximum enjoyment !!!

I'd only spent a brief time the previous week having a go around Maiwald and enjoyed it. I had meant to get some proper practice in last week but real life stuff got in the way so I was unable to. So it ended up with me attacking the corners a little to fast resulting in a few off's. The track deserved a bit more respect. And to top it off I got interrupted and had to pit and leave the PS3 for awhile! Never mind still fun.
Hopefully I'll be better prepared now for the Rockets. :)

30 minutes around my Shortun track! About a minute a lap. We'll all be giddy. :dopey:
Should be interesting though because a spin will result in the leaders soon being on your tail.

My tips are - Brake early and then accelerate smoothly out of the first corner otherwise the tail may flip out. Be cautious around the double dips, breaking early for the second one. Getting a good line out of the last corners will allow for better speed on the pit straight.
Hope you enjoy the track. It was only really made has an experiment but people seem to like it.

And Sick, my car is now looking resplendent in it's Tartan red. 👍

Just a quick reminder that it is Wednesday Cobras today at the usual time of 20:30 BST. Until then have a look at this video, which will be of interest to any people who are nuts about American V8 engines (such as me) - Episode 1 of the excellent Engine Masters series:

Supported Car Suggestion: TVR Griffith 200 and 400

A legendary classic sports car with a TVR body and chassis powered by a Ford V8, conceived by Jack Griffiths to battle the Cobra, they are fast, light, loud and best suited to expert drivers. This car would be a great competitor for the Corvette C2, Shelby GT350 and Ferraris in the game and also the 289 Cobra and Lightweight E Type which hopefully will be added. Please show your support by clicking on the link and clicking like.

Slide 1 Lotus 6.jpg

I had been looking forward to "The Ford Show" but all week the weather forecast was terrible and I thought it would be cancelled. It's the first outdoor car show of the year, for me, and worth a visit for the cars, live music and refreshments. The weather held up just enough to make it enjoyable - we had some hail and some rain, but only a little. The undoubted star of the show was the car in slide 1 - a Lotus 6. This car was the 23rd made of 110 and was registered in May 1954. The engine is a tuned Ford 1172cc sidevalve. Suspension is independent front with a Ford live rear axle and all round cable operated drum brakes, which the owner says work "quite well". Of all the cars at the show, this is the one I would most enjoy driving and owning.

Slide 2: Ford Thames Trader car transporter was loaded with two Ford Anglia 1200 Deluxe estate cars (station wagons)and a Ford Corsair 2000E which the owner said "went like a rocket". I presume he means in comparison with the Ford Anglias! A lovely Bullit style Mustang Fastback can be seen flanked by two classic British Fords.

Slide 2 Transporter.jpg

Slide 3 Commercial.jpg

Slide 3: Above right an extremely rare (in the UK) Australian made Zephyr Ute in need of restoration. To the left US Ford pickup and the "Nervous Breakdown Truck".

Slide 4: Top left an extremely rare Ford Crayford Corsair - these convertibles were so expensive (as much as an E Type Jaguar) that only a handful were made. Top right 1935 10hp convertible.

Slide 4 Rare.jpg

Above left very rare Ford powered Rickman Space Ranger and right Ford Prefect in beautiful condition. I hope you enjoyed these shots. More show highlights tomorrow.

Actually, I might be able to get home in time for the race.

Hope to see you on track tomorrow!

The Ford show continued ... Slide 5 Top left Ford Anglia race car painted up to match John Fitzpatrick's 1966 BSCC winning Broadspeed Team car - this car really ought to be in GTS / GT7 to go head to head against a classic Mini. Right, a veritable forest of Anglias - deluxe versions have two tone paint with a side stripe matching the roof colour.

Slide 5 Anglias.jpg
Slide 6 Zodiacs.jpg

Slide 6 Above left there were lots of Mark 3 Zephyr's and Zodiacs at the show, but I only saw one Mark 4 (V6 3 litre), one Mark 1 and one Mark 2, which is pictured top right. A Mark 2 won the BSCC in 1959 driven by Jeff Uren.

Above right, white car is a 1965 Ford Thunderbird.

Slide 7 There were several rare Consul Capri's at the show including this beautiful example and the red one below fitted with wire wheels. The Consul Capri and more common saloon Consul Classic featured front disc brakes which were vastly superior to the drums on the Anglia - fast drivers soon found out that these could be swapped onto the Anglia.

Below right - the Anglia was replaced in 1968 by the Escort Mark 1 - it won the BSCC in 1968 driven by Frank Gardner. Below that a light brown Escort RS2000 - a very fast car in its day.

Slide 7 Classic Capri.jpg

Slide 8 Sundry.jpg

Slide 8 red Ford Capri with black bonnet - Ford marketed the Capri as "The car you've always promised yourself". Black bonnets were in fashion at this time - the Vauxhall Viva GT coming with one as standard - rally drivers had started painting their bonnets mat black to reduce reflections in the windscreen.

My Mum drove a bottle green Ford Cortina Mark 1 very similar to the car above - ours had a full width bumper and lacked the chrome side stripes of this 1500 GT model. Right, a gold Cortina 1600E - the E stood for Executive - it was considered a luxurious and desirable car at the time. Above a row of classic Ford's powered by four cylinder side valve engines. In grey an upright Anglia, Prefect or Popular - they had different names depending on the trim level. In maroon a Model Y - these cost from only £100 new and took over 50% of their sector of the UK market.

Slide 9 a variety of classics a Prefect in two tone grey and cream and a red 289 Mustang similar in style to the one used by Roy Pierpoint to win the BSCC in 1965.

Slide 9 Various.jpg

That was hard work!!:scared:

Excellent circuit but those final corners back to the start was really hard work with the Cobra trying to punt itself into the wall!

Had a better race than I expected. Good battle with Sick. Did a good pass only to bin the cobra 1 lap later and let sick and simba past.

Eran and Simba were amazingly fast on this track.

Only got 3rd because sick had a spin.

Sorry to see If and Tarn having to pit but john came in steady and strong.

Hope to be there next Wednesday.

Thanks for the race yesterday! It was a hard track to learn, as the corners were a bit diffuse as for where they started and where they ended. Lots of variable radii and double (or even triple sometimes) apex turns.

My focus was on keeping a tight line rather than aiming for high cornering speeds, so in that sense it was very similar to slalom.

At the qualification I made a mistake at the first corner and went off the track. It seemed odd because I thought I used the same brake mark as I would on a flying lap, and since my speed was much slower I should have made the corner just fine. However, I was really tired and had a hard time focusing, so I think that what happened was that I mistook another prop for my brake mark, essentially shortening the braking distance by about 100 meters...

It was good that it happened though, because it made me regain focus, and as it turned out I didn't make any more mistakes after that. My focus got a bit wobbly again towards the end of the main race, but I already had a 30 second gap by then so all I needed to care about was to keep the car on the road.

See you next week, or tomorrow for those who race with the rockets :)

We have spaces for new drivers - online novice or experienced racer - all are welcome.

Supported car suggestion - Chevrolet Corvette (C2) Grand Sport 1963. Only five of these lightweight race cars were built, three Coupes and two roadsters. It would be a great car to have in the game to race against the Cobra 427. Please click on the link and like the first post.

Round 5 Spa Francorchamps at 20:30 BST on Wednesday 4th May 2016

hi, is there a place free this week ? would like to get involved ..

Definitely Richroo! I've sent you a friend request - once you've accepted that, I'll send the club invitation. You will need to choose a race number, a country colour and choose either a Cobra 427 Chromeline or Cobra Daytona Coupe. Let me know your choices when you can.

If you are interested in the Wednesday Cobras, you might also be interested in Friday Rockets - same track list, race numbers and country colours and most of the guys race in both series - we just had a great meeting tonight at the Greek track "Serres".
Click on the link below for more information if you are also free on Friday's.

Hey just checking in ..Think i would like to try the chromeline and join @Harsk100 for UK ... my no. is #31 if that's OK
Think Friday would have to be on reserve, as time to practice gets a bit much with other events taking up time too !
When are you guys on ? as I'm not on late anymore ,have to get up in mornings lol

Hi Richroo - that's all fine - I've put you down for Team UK with Harsk in a chromeline Cobra number 31 and I've just sent a club invitation. I forgot to mention about retro outfits - if you can choose one of the six retro outfits at the start of the thread for your avatar to change into before our races - it helps make the race photos look more authentic if we wear the outfits which feature an open face crash helmet.

In terms of practise - I suggest you exchange friend requests with the other drivers listed. If I am on I sometimes send a message to anyone who is on and we use the club lobby or a public room, but I often don't get any time to practise. If I am online I am probably testing cars, tyres or tracks for future championships, but occasionally I do some practise, but it's very random. My Wednesday Cobras race is my practise for the Friday Rockets! Not surprisingly I'm normally at the back of the grid!

Feel free to set up practise rooms in the club lobby when you want.

OK cool , yes i did see the outfit thing couldn't make my mind up lol think #4 will be my choice.. gave it a few laps other day at spa was fun and a hand full , hope i can get the hang of it by Wednesday ... :)
