Actually, I might be able to get home in time for the race.
Hope to see you on track tomorrow!
The Ford show continued ... Slide 5 Top left Ford Anglia race car painted up to match John Fitzpatrick's 1966 BSCC winning Broadspeed Team car - this car really ought to be in GTS / GT7 to go head to head against a classic Mini. Right, a veritable forest of Anglias - deluxe versions have two tone paint with a side stripe matching the roof colour.
Slide 6 Above left there were lots of Mark 3 Zephyr's and Zodiacs at the show, but I only saw one Mark 4 (V6 3 litre), one Mark 1 and one Mark 2, which is pictured top right. A Mark 2 won the BSCC in 1959 driven by Jeff Uren.
Above right, white car is a 1965 Ford Thunderbird.
Slide 7 There were several rare Consul Capri's at the show including this beautiful example and the red one below fitted with wire wheels. The Consul Capri and more common saloon Consul Classic featured front disc brakes which were vastly superior to the drums on the Anglia - fast drivers soon found out that these could be swapped onto the Anglia.
Below right - the Anglia was replaced in 1968 by the Escort Mark 1 - it won the BSCC in 1968 driven by Frank Gardner. Below that a light brown Escort RS2000 - a very fast car in its day.
Slide 8 red Ford Capri with black bonnet - Ford marketed the Capri as "The car you've always promised yourself". Black bonnets were in fashion at this time - the Vauxhall Viva GT coming with one as standard - rally drivers had started painting their bonnets mat black to reduce reflections in the windscreen.
My Mum drove a bottle green Ford Cortina Mark 1 very similar to the car above - ours had a full width bumper and lacked the chrome side stripes of this 1500 GT model. Right, a gold Cortina 1600E - the E stood for Executive - it was considered a luxurious and desirable car at the time. Above a row of classic Ford's powered by four cylinder side valve engines. In grey an upright Anglia, Prefect or Popular - they had different names depending on the trim level. In maroon a Model Y - these cost from only £100 new and took over 50% of their sector of the UK market.
Slide 9 a variety of classics a Prefect in two tone grey and cream and a red 289 Mustang similar in style to the one used by Roy Pierpoint to win the BSCC in 1965.
