Week 88: The Theory Of...

so far, using settings based on Missing Link's sets.

Missing Link, (or anyone else who knows) I've got a question about the gearing. How did you decide to set the car up for only 5 gears. I can see on track that it's faster, but how did you know that it'd be faster (I guess I'm looking for the theory behind what you've done)?

I think that you're trying to keep it in the power band (5500rpm - 7000rpm), and the six speed box like means shifting too much?

Also, anyone running LSD instead of the AYC? I'm wondering how they compare - I find the AYC makes the car pretty unstable.

I just always use only 5 gears unless the car is able to do like 200 mph the straight. Then I think about the 6th gear (not necessarily use it) however... usually in a race situation I like to utilize as many gears as they give me.

Here's why, in a hot lap scenario, I can maximize the use of the power band, and shift as little as possible.
In race scenario I am not likely to repeat identical laps one after another (especially when lapping AI cars) so often the extra gear is needed so that there is better transition between gears, and being in the correct gear means that often there is a choice of being in gear A) or gear B).

good to know :-) ... it certainly makes it easier to control wheelspin and it really feels a lot better than constantly shifting.

Luxy, you going to stay in D2 for a bit longer or move up to D1 with the big dogs?

Herman, by your times I'm guessing you are a D1 guy, but I didn't see your name on the registered drivers classes list so I put your division down as red until that is all sorted out.

Looking forward to putting in some more time on this one as it's a great combo Kent! 👍

Edit: Forgot to mention I have a friend nearby that I play 2 player with occasionally and I got him to sign up at GTP. He signed up as Ibanez1. Hopefully he'll be joining us here when time permits. I'm guessing he's another D2 racer. I've raced with him a lot and he's a good clean racer. 👍

Starting to get the hang of this wheel. ;)
New splits for me: 31.963 / 1'15.198

Ran a 31.5 and a couple 31.6-31.8 T1's, but those damned railroad tracks just before T2 are killing me. I see lots of time left everywhere, but not sure I'll be able to grab it all up.

I'm having so much fun with the wheel that I laughed out loud a couple times as I fought some fish tales trying to keep control. Best money I've spent in a long time. 👍

Thanks to everyone that posted their settings, cut down on my tuning time and gave me more time to drive. 👍

Glad to see you like the DFP as much as I do Tuff! 👍
I've got one since July this year.
No way I'm going back to using a DS2 controller for a racing game.

God, how I hate street circuits... I'm slowly getting my cleans down, but it's the runs with one touch that are my quickest thus far... to this point have put together three consecutive sections...

Couldn't resist running some more. :D
Best clean lap: 31.290 / 1'14.416
Ran a 30.997 T1  and promptly stuffed it in the next couple of turns. :banghead:

Better start checking your mirrors Luxy! ;)

flat-out
My blue Lancer V GSR was stock at 322 bhp, same as Sjaak's.
Since this car comes out of the car dealer at 276 bhp and without any blue color option, I guess it's a prize car (or perhaps a special div2 car  ).
Best so far is at :
T1 = 32.300 (best seen at 32.0)
T2 = 1'16.009 (nothing better seen)

This was supposed to be my only practice session, so these might be the times I'll submit eventually. Unless I can take some time friday night late...

Yeah,blue with black\red wheels.Must be a div.2 car.
Looks very nice in the replay. :)

I wish I could use my blue prize lancer, but I had to fully mod it, with the unremoveable port/polish and balancing -_- So I'm stuck with a lil one from the dealer in silver (ugh) with only 313 HP haha.. I've actually be registered for this since mid August.. stupid college haha.

First clean lap haha..

T1: 33.746
T2: 1'18.858

I must say I hate this track.. love the car but hate the track.. it all evens out I guess :P

As I'm new to WRS (my 1st week), and the last two weeks I've watched you've used 'ARCADE' cars which cannot be 'fine-tuned' as in ride height, camber etc... I have a question...

I've just brought a Evo V GSR and fitted all the allowable bits, do we run the car with standard 'default' settings or are we allowed to 'fine-tune' the car???

Thnx.

Enjoy it 👍

Btw:What division are you in??

 is right! Best I've seen is a 31.1 (once) ... seems to be all about getting through the first turn smoothly and on the power quick.

Mirrors checked ... bring it on!! :mischievous: :D

I think the last sector is going to decide things this week. It's not hard to drop 0.250 in the second last turn.

sjaak68
t1 32.480
t2 1'16.595
322 bhp

Thanks for the info guys,I'm gonna need it :embarrassed:

I used Tom's setting and link's gears.
2 sec. faster overall
T1 31.806
T2 1'15.171

Great improvement, sjaak. 👍

First session:

32.652
1'16.516

And I am already driving with Tom's settings, so no easy 2 secs improvement for me.

Thanks for sharing and getting your settings up early, Tomski.

Btw:What division are you in??

Thnx, GoKents has put me in Div I for the time being, I'll try to enjoy, but this combo is making me pull my hair out, I've got runs quicker than my clean but have minute brushes of walls.

I've seen 31.650 first sectors, and 1.14.679 second sectors, each ended up having a touch somewhere :banghead: , and my very quickest overall run had a wayyy slow last sector, so although at T2 I was down by 0.8 in my clean, I'd caught over half that by finish, so that's one positive...

I'm still using standard gear ratio's, and haven't been able to find anything substancially quicker as yet (apart from one I lost the setting :banghead: ), anyone got something to try?

BTW, changed oil and had 322, now 315, so changed oil again, still 315... Did I change oil too soon??? Or have I done too many km's??? :sly:

I'm not registered to any division, but I thought I would give it a try to at least see how I compared for a first time. I can't keep up with most of you guys. You're too damn fast :scared: !

Thanks to Tomski for the settings.

I see the real deal is back. Count me out this week.
At least someone remembers me, but there is no need to look up to me ;)
I have a feeling that this comment is directed at me, and not you.... remembering the debacle from the week we raced the MRS Autoabcs at SSR5 II (Wet)...

Almost embarrassed to post first attempts :
33.096 / 1:17.731
Watch out for me on your slow-down lap!!! :banghead:
Maybe a bit of running the car in will help, and time to play - that is seriously race! - plenty more to come I think.

Leaderboard current to this post.

I've been running quite a bit with no improvements. Most T1's are in the 31.3-31.9 range now, but I've been stuffing every good T1 into a wall. Haven't seen a sub 31.3 since my clean run. :(

You're looking pretty safe there Luxy, from me at least. I even grabbed a DS2 to see how much time I was losing trying to get used to the wheel. Couldn't keep up with the wheel ghost.

Put some laps in Mark! I'm sure you'll move up the leaderboard in no time. 👍

antihero, you should register and join us! 👍

I've been wanting a wheel for quite a while now ... it's good to hear what you think of it :-), and that it only took you 3-4 days to get into racing form with it :D

I finally manage to put a run together, then I go do it again within 5 mins, it's all about rythym sometimes...

T1 - 31.492 Clean (best 31.398)
T2 - 1.14.662 Clean (best 1.14.447 also clean run)

Edit: Tried abit more... times same run...

T1 - 31.273 Clean (Best)
T1 - 1:14.315 Clean (Best)

Still a little left out there, but the trouble is stringing them all together...

Double Edit: Just did quicker clean, slightly slower splits, got 2nd last corner at 90+ km/h.
