Well we started out on AT, it's nothing to be ashamed of . I will say though that having got the hang of MT it is much quicker I've improved my times heaps by doing so and kinda convinced Ron it was the way to go  Maybe it's something to do with how you configure the buttons , maybe that's your problem ... I use L1 shift down and R2 shift up, after a while it comes naturally .

Hey Boom, it has indeed been a while. I've been around, racing inanother league, and Real life taking a toll on available time.

But in a recent attempt to run the R390 in the f1 championship, I'm not fairing well. Which means I really need some practice.

See you guys at the track. I'll also have to compare your settings to mine and see what happens.

Had a few atempts at this set up seems reasonable:cool:

83/83
7/7
7/7
0.0/0.0
0.0/0.0
4/4
down force
0.99/1.23
TCS/4

It is not that bad although seems to be a bit hard on the springs:confused:

T1; 22.033

T2;48.003

T3;1.11.244

Good luck guys and girls

In my honest opinion, no matter how good you are using manual, you're still holding yourself back. Made in Holland, however good a driver he is, will never be able to catch Mr.P - the closer they both get to absolute perfect driving, the more likely there are going to be races where Mr.P will beat him because of it. The shifter is just another tool to control your car's driving behaviour with - sometimes you want the car revving high, sometimes low for instance - and when gearing can't be tuned, then many cars will be slightly faster when shifting manual, because the optimal shifting point is before or after the redline.

The very best AUTO drivers can cheat half of this by holding the shift button to prevent the car from upshifting. This should give you a clue. Then I could quote thousands of converts who were going faster after switching to manual. The point is, I'm not saying this to flame anyone. I just want to make sure you understand the choice you make. Made in Holland has shown that you can go very fast with AUTO, but for each Made in Holland there are a few Mr.Ps showing that MT is still faster.

As for in-car vs ex-car view, that's another matter. Both have their advantages. I prefer in car view, because ultimately
1. you have a bigger view of the track. This means you can be more precise when you pass the track. However, this is initially masked by the fact that you can see the full car ex-car, and you cannot in-car. But once you get a 'feel' for the dimensions of the car, the in-car view starts to be a precision instrument surpassing ex-car view. It's a long term reward, but it's certainly there.
2. it brings what your brain perceives closer to the reactions needed. Ex-car you are behind your car and have to position your mind's eye a little forward into the track. This I think is actually harder than driving in-car, but initially it is compensated by a better view of the track and the turns coming up, and the position of the car on the track.

I don't have a problem with AUTO drivers, and even less with ex-car drivers. Especially the combination is good, they can see me overtake them and so make way. :mischievous:

Seriously though, it's all a matter of the goals you set yourself. I aim high. Not that this means I'll get there, as I don't have as much time for driving as some top drivers (though probably also more than others ...), but I want to give myself every chance I have nevertheless. And I want to feel like I'm driving a car, not playing a game, but that's often a non-issue for DS2 drivers anyway.

Discuss Away ...

To be totaly honest i,ve been using the Ex view and AUTO ever since the first GT came around ..I never gave the other options a serious try ( Then i was not racing some damn fine drivers) This is only became obvious to me when i started this OLR ..

I just find it hard to use the manual with the DS2 just dos'nt feel right to me ( a big up to those who can)
In real life though i much prefer to drive a manual as i think Automatics suck ..

If i get a good wheel with proper gear stick and pedals (with Clutch pedal if they exsist) im sure i could take to the manual quite easily..It's just they cost so much..

Im gonna really try and make the switch but i think it will take a while to master..

Anyways update on the racing now in the T3 1'09,s at last after 6 1'10.1's in a row i thought i was never gonna get it ..:)

I have a few things... first off. Its 10 minutes till I have to leave for work.

With 30 before work I did a 15 minute session.

Best clean save results yet.

21.4
47.5
1.10.3

Now those will also come down... I am sure 1.09 is easily going to come down on us.

As for my other point... its about the manual thing from above.

Using the map, check this out...

turn 5, if you know the line right, you can take it full speed, but if you are using the auto, you could be at the mercy of the tranny to decide if you will be making the entire turn in one gear, then accelerator induced oversteer maybe become a gamble.

Another scenerio is when you are coming off of a straight and you are using the auto... there is a good chance that you may upshift right before the braking point, making it so the tranny has to come down one more gear and in the end, it could easily add time to the same lap, compared to that lap had you drove a manual and never upshifting - just redlining for a .1 second more.

Now I know the r2 can take care of most of that, but those are just some scenerios.

You could also run into the revolutions problem arwin mentioned as well as any number of specific driving style issues based around your own correction procedure when driving wildly.

Thanks for the read...

But damn, I just had to post those times.

btw, it was still at only 790 hp. So has anyone seen the top out hp yet?

I've always driven manual and the two analog sticks for the GT series but I switched to wheel driving very quickly. I use the Logitech Wingman FF which is perfect for GT3 (as it's just another name for the GT Force for which GT3 was designed, although the MoMo works great too of course). But in addition to that, it's very cheap. I've seen lots of shops selling them for $50. Now don't tell me that's "so much". It's just slightly more than a DS2.

EDIT: Nice sectors there GoK.! After Made in Holland's traditional five, a new car and no settings, I'm stuck about 4 seconds from yours. But then this might just be my worst track. :D

I was refering to the MOMO,s when i seen the price's of them i was a wee bit shocked  $50 thats around £35 i will have to look into this ..

I allready have a wheel but is absolutley kack ( got it for free ) it's a Gamester dual force not worth spit ..When you turn the wheel it dos'nt react right away so you tend to turn the wheel more resulting in meetins with walls

BTW that wheel you got is it the USB version..?

Hey Boom PM you my qualifier time. Did you get it? what class am i in?

Come on mad dont hold out on me:mad: :D

For Real?:odd:

I took a try at the last race but I didnt submit my time.

I had a 1.38.6 (I stink) but I only had two days to practice, dont think I might of done much better that anyway, that track was hardddd:(

I will give it a go in this race. If I get the ok from boom.:D

dont worry about that , start racing as boom would say ;)

Ack, I hate tuning cars, so I'm using Luxy's and pedrodamans settings. Expect some exceptionally slow times.

Alright, I tried Luxy's settings, only to be met with understeer heaven, which I've got no idea how to fix.

Tried pedrodaman's settings, changed the toe's - as it only understeered a tiny bit, and got these:
0'22:285
0'48:563
1'12.936

Yep.

Usually what you need to do to counteract understeer, is set your front springs lower than your rear springs.

Example. 4.0/20.0

Stabalizers are the same way.

Example: 1/7

Of course the above examples are of the extreme nature, but you should get the picture.

A slight negative toe in the front will help as well. It will yield slightly less steering response, but it will help the car grip in a hard turn.

High downforce in front will help with the understeer with a bit less rear downforce.

Example: 1.00/1.15

Take a look at my settings that I posted earlier. You will see what I'm talking about.

Damper bound and rebound will help too.

Low rear rebound and high front bound = Makes your car very loose into turns.

High front rebound and a low rear bound = Makes your car very tight out of turns.

Low front rebound and a high rear bound = Makes your car very loose out of turns.

High rear rebound and a low front bound = Makes your car very tight into turns.

Wooo eeeeee tried your settings Boom .Man that is one loose ride :D im just too heavy fingered on the gas ..My ass was all over the road  i think i will try some more TCS ..Allthough i should try and get my throttle control sorted as i believe to much TCS may hamper my times especially in the tighter turns..

I will try some more experiments ;)

Yes of course it is the USB version. :)

Is this the wheel you got.? i found it for £59 looks not to shaby my only concern is that the cable is only 6ft long ..Is there some sort of extention cable that you can get ?
Also if i was to get this i would like to stick some weights inside as it looks very light ..

I ran my first session last night:

Best CLEAN save: 21.600 / 47.593 / 1:10.003

I ran this time with auto trans and outside view as usual.

This car is made for me:D :D :D

Here's my setts, Pedro you might like these:

9.0 / 7.5
80/80
10/10/10/10
2.0 / 2.5
0.0 /2.0
7/5

20/20 brakes

10/40/20 LSD

Auto 30 trans

1.00/ 1.25 downforce

ASM = 0
TCS = 3

This setup feels about perfectly balanced for me with just a little oversteer if you need it;)

I don't know how anyone could have have understeer:confused: I had a problem with the front having too much grip until I got it sorted out. I think if you're understeering you're hitting the gas too early in the turn, wait for the apex then lay on the gas!:mischievous: (Hint Hint Cobraboy ;) ) My motto is: SLOW IN, FAST OUT!!:)

Cheers CF man i will be sure to check em out ;)

BTW nice first splits dude ;) Looks like i will need to get the hammer down :D

Well first session landed me with these sector times: 21.498, 48.472, 1’11.864

I had one simple fault in the run therefore it’s not perfect, and I know that I left plenty of time in between the 2nd and 3rd tunnels. I blew the first braking point coming out of tunnel 2 and that screwed me for the following corner.

So I’m guessing that I could possibly move into a 1’10 (T4) range. And it looks like I've got my work cut out for me, as a few others are on the bottom edge of the 1'10 or lower.

This is running with a slight variation of my previously posted settings.

Hi pedrodaman:
:D Your picture didn't come over w/your quote but I'm referring to the "Blue" Logitech Wheel. This is the only controller I've ever used until I recently stepped up to a MOMO. The "Blue" wheel has two SERIOUS Glitches. It will NOT allow you to downshift in MT if the wheel is turned even slightly & you will NEVER GET MORE THAN 75% BRAKING. Am still adapting to my MOMO as even though I believe it to be Superior to the "Blue" wheel it is DIFFERENT & haven't quite figured it out yet. Hope this helps...UB57

:D

Cheers for the feedback UB57 i,ve been reading reviews on the "Blue" wheel from peeps that have uesd them all seem to have had similar problems to you ..So i guess i won't be getting that wheel :)

Also the reviews on the "Red" wheel are similar so im a bit  as what to get i know nothings perfect ;)

Maybe i will opt for the Momo but im having a time finding place's that sell them close to me ( I hate ordering stuff on the net as this can take some time to reach you :irked: im a impatient bugger :D

Hi Again pedrodaman :
:D My humble advice: GO FOR THE MOMO!!! It can be a bit of a "Bugger" to calibrate but it's great once you get it figured out. My biggest problem right now is that I'm FINALLY able to drive w/MT & my OLR times are suffering 'till I get a little further up on the "Learning Curve."...UB57
