Could either of you elaborate on why you find the user name location more bothersome? I found it easier to scan posts when I first implemented the new template in my testing, and I like it more as I continue to use it.

Has Car-less had stated, the screen name (specially in non premiums and moderation staff) got lost easily in between posts.

Now that everyone has a bold screen name, it is ALLOT easier to track down each user post, and maybe even easier than with GTP9. :)

Well, thanks Jordan:tup:

Edit: A question, though: Wouldn't there be a problem with premium members as they were the only non staff members to have an exclusive bold (and red as well) screen name?
Since both are in bold, there is almost no difference between a premium and regular screen name has in which name grabs more the user attention (apart from the colour).

That's interesting to know - I've been waiting to follow up with several of you now that you've had some more time with it. Specifically, I'm interested in hearing from those who didn't like the new location of user names in posts. Have you adjusted, or is it still something you find bothersome?
I got use to it. There is one thing that I liked more in the previous version and that is the single post thing. Mentioned in a thread in this forum.

The username positions doesn't bother me anymore because almost everybody became a mod, super or not and is very clear to read. :P

I would like to suggest one thing though. Is it possible to replace the date of posting to the left hand side in the left hand column were the username is located. Where was the date located in the previous version?

Maybe you could add a thank you button were the date is located now. Other forums have it and it is working fine. If someone thanks you, his/her username will be shown under the post, so you can see who thanked you. It's just a thank you button for a certain post. No points have to be awarded. We tried that and it was abused.

Why did you prefer viewing individual posts? That's one thing I couldn't wait to get rid of - I've long been irritated by seeing comments out of context when people linked directly to those pages.

The date was located where user names and titles are now, on the left. I want to minimize the height of that section as much as is reasonably possible, so moving it back there without relocating the user title or the name wouldn't work out. I also would like a "thanks" or "like" button for individual posts, but relying on third-party hacks and modifications for basic site features is asking for trouble in the long run. Our next forum software will probably have that functionality.

EDIT: On an unrelated note, the issue affecting Firefox users on Windows who saw their system's default font in the post WYSIWYG editor should now be fixed, with Verdana being correctly applied. Incorrect thread counts have also been removed from private messages, and the "Request Read Receipt" box is now checked by default when composing a new one.

How about... oooooh... indigo?
Naww... unless your argument is convincing enough :D

Dark(ish) green could work for staff members (ok, so it doesn't quite fit with the site theme, but roll with it - it offers the necessary contrast) :)

Yup, that's fixed. Good work J 👍

It's not that I prefer individual posts, it was just easier before. I thought that you just changed how it worked. If I knew that you want to get rid of this feature, by all means, remove it, if possible.

That isn't necessary now, since the regular screen names in bold seem to have disappear. :(

Nope, he's right. The usernames were temporary back to normal. Now they are all back to bold.

Yep, I pushed out an update to the content delivery network servers that made all user names bold, instead of the temporary patch I applied earlier to test it out. Clear your cache / hit refresh to make sure you've got the latest version. I'm not sure what, if anything, I will do to differentiate user names for staff members - the blue badge may be enough.

How about you italicize all staff members' usernames, instead of just admins and... er... owner?

You could use that "site founder" tag but make it appropriate for mods. But I'm not to bothered, the badges look good.

I'm really not sure if this belongs in this thread but I hate to start a new one for what may be a problem on my end.

Ever since the site upgrades, the forum seems to hang on me when navigating. And it always seems to be caused by loading data from either ad.yieldmanager.com or gr.burstnet.com. I'm primarily accessing GTPlanet at work (Windows XP/Firefox 3.6/closed network connected through a T1). Sometimes it hangs for 5 seconds. Other times it takes as much as a full minute. In any event, it's terribly annoying and seems to take forever to navigate or post.

At home using Mac OSX/Safari/cable modem, the problem still persists but it never seems to take more than 5 seconds.

Ocassionally, I also access from an iPhone, and well, frankly, navigating from a mobile device even on 3G network is so slow, I can't tell one way or the other. :D

I suspect this may have something to do with our firewall or intrusive spyware filters. Has anybody else complained about this problem?

This has probably been asked already, but why has our (as in, anyone who has one) XBL tags been removed and only the PSN tags are displayed?

Or, is this just a problem on my end?

How often does this occur for you? Is it every single page view or just occasionally?

It would take up too much room in the left column next to posts if it was included in the new template, though I don't think the XBL tag is really needed there, anyways.

Thanks for responding Jordan. It's not every time. Sometimes I'm able to navigate through forums, page to page with no issue. Other times, it will happen with every click. It's particularly annoying if I want to post and then quickly reference another post. And I'll be sitting waiting sometimes for 2 minutes with both tabs open and all I can see is the gtplanet header.

Yes, I can imagine that would be very annoying and I hate to hear that is happening for you. This problem can occur due to inherent problems with how Javascript files are loaded by browsers, and a long-term solution may be difficult if not impossible for me to achieve. For now, disable Javascript in your browser or use a Firefox extension such as NoScript and it will fix the issue.

Thanks Jordan. I figured it was likely on my end but I wanted to check here and make sure this wasn't a known issue before I made myself crazy trying to figure it out. I can't turn off Java completely because there are a few (work related) sites where I need it. I'll see if there's any updates that I missed and start chipping away at it. Perhaps it's all just a subtle way of telling me to get back to work. :D
