Just got a vB database error about a minute ago. Was there a ton of people on?

No, something is wrong with the server. I'm aware of the issue and am trying to figure out the problem.

Under the new forum layout, I see among other things we don’t see your most recent visitors any more, just the number of visitors this page has had.

Maybe it’s a good idea to drop a small note in the message box (visitor message) Hello, nice page layout, just a visit, hope your well, welcome to GTP and so on.

As we can’t see who the last 10 were, if you’ve taken the time to visit then let them know. :)

Phillip.

Pretty sweet design Jordan, although I do have to say this blue line looks out of place with the rest of the design, color doesn't seem to fit to me.

I just hit 500 posts but I don't see an option to change my member title in my profile details... :(

Is this a bug or does it take a while for the database to update?

^ I seem to recall that the database updates a few times per day so it'll like take a bit.

Also, I was going to post another bug for you having two locations, post counts and PSN then I realized it was just your avatar. Sneaky.

You're the second person to tell me that. :P I was very bored when I came up with this avatar. :)

I can change my title now, it seems like there's a bit of a delay. Maybe the database updates every hour or so, I recall Jordan saying that.

Jordan, is there any particular reason why quoted text not attributed to anyone, such as this...

Sample text

...isn't italicized? It's a minor thing, of course, but I'm just curious why it's that way.

Sorry for the double post...

I actually have a proper question for once!!

Why did you remove the number of views colum from the forum layout?

Jordan, I imagine this has been added to your long list, but just wondering if the "views" feature will be making a return?

For certain types of threads, such as race reports, tuning threads, or even race events in their early hours, this can be a useful indicator of interest.

EDIT : Hmm, nevermind. A friendly user has pointed out to me that you can see views by hovering the pointer over post count. :dopey: Nice way of keeping the feature in place while cleaning up the page. 👍

Good question, it appears that was just a discrepancy in the default vBulletin templates. I prefer all quotes to be italic and have just changed this.

Yep, user promotions are run every hour.

EDK

Glad someone pointed you in the right direction - they've never left and views are still being counted as always. :)

I only just noticed the icons that administrators get. Were they crowns before the change, or did I really just overlook it for the two and a half years that I've been at this site?

Windows users, sorry about Lucida Sans sneaking into the forum template in places. :ouch: Hit refresh to get the latest version of the CSS file. More fixes and answers to all your questions are coming...

The crowns are new. :)

Despite the fact that I am very happy with GTPX I have one remark. It concerns the new location of the GTP username next to the avatar rather than above it in GTPIX.

Every time I want to see who has written a post I look for the above-avatar location and don't see who wrote, then it takes a second before I realise I have to look somewhere else. Quite annoying.
Also I don't understand why our great boss has decided that that location has to change.

Is it me or do many other guys have the same problem?

 anyways to Jordan :)

Just noticed a small thing. The option for premium users to remove their user title still says it displays underneath the username. My OCD kicked in from there...

Yes, that's already noted in my to-do list in the first post here.

I'm getting used to GTPX. I can't even remember how the previous version looked like.

That's interesting to know - I've been waiting to follow up with several of you now that you've had some more time with it. Specifically, I'm interested in hearing from those who didn't like the new location of user names in posts. Have you adjusted, or is it still something you find bothersome?

I have adjusted but I still feel usernames would be better in the left-column above the avatar. Like kikie though, I can't remember how GTP used to look. I still find the blue bar across the top the most annoying thing however, it just doesn't look right.

Well, to be honest, I still find it a bit bothersome, specially with non premiums and/or people who change avatars often. Premiums and moderation staff it's a bit easier to get notice because they have a bold screen name.
Oh, and I remember the old version quite like yesterday. Not under-appreciating your work, Jordan, but to me, GTP9 was the best GTP version to date in visual therms.

Could either of you elaborate on why you find the user name location more bothersome? I found it easier to scan posts when I first implemented the new template in my testing, and I like it more as I continue to use it.

That may help those of you who find it difficult to use, I'll tinker with that.

I see the left hand box as being info about the poster, and the centre of the page as the topic being discussed. Having the username and title above the post seems to link it more with the topic than with their location, PSN etc. It just looks wrong to me.

Second that, also I still often miss the poster as it blends in with the body of text. If someone changes their avatar often I can't tell it's them immediately.

Thanks, I see your point.

To test things out, all user names now appear in bold. On Windows machines with Arial in particular, I do find them easier to read.

Ah, that explains things!
I was just coming in here to report the fact that everyone appeared to have been promoted to SuperMod status given that the names were in Bold!

You just need to find a colour/style that differentiates mods and Joe Average :P

Looks much better, J (not that it didn't look good before, which it did!). :)
