Wet track only dries out when cars drive over it?

I just drove the Le Mans race in the GT3 championship. On lap 2 it started to rain, but as the rain radar showed the rain would stop, I did not pit for wet tires.
I was in the lead, and expected the track to dry out during lap 3. To my surprise, it didn't. Even though the rain had stopped, the track staid as wet as it was. Until I came to the part where the rain had stopped earlier.
So it seems a track will only dry up through cars passing over it. Is this also your experience? Any observations?

I don't think the game is that calculated. If you want to test it then do a time trial with changeable weather but stop as it dries

It doesn't - certain parts of the track dry quicker than others and the drying time depends on the duration of the race, not how many cars have driven over it.

We've just had this exact discussion in this thread
