Picked up a hard to get album direct from the label a week back. They had one copy found. It came with an extra outer sleeve due to some dinked corners and a DL for Bandcamp.

This is said album

For the next two weeks I'm going to be treated to some open-air concerts in the park near my flat wafting their way through the summer air and into my home.

For such a small venue, there's some pretty big name acts. Tonight it is Suzanne Vega, next Wednesday is one of my musical heroes (but who is also an absolute arsehole) Van Morrison... and Friday night it is none other than my best mate's childhood sweetheart, Belinda Carlisle. The Pixies and The Waterboys (another of my mate's favourite bands) are also playing.

The only two shows not to be sold out are The Happy Mondays (who I cannot stand) and poor old cheery chops, Billy Bragg. However, there is also Rick Astley as well 😐

Its a shame that for most people, Rick Astley’s “Never Gonna Give You Up” became nothing more than a punchline to a meme, because two things are true about that song. 35 years later it’s still a complete banger, and Astley’s voice is still as powerful as it was back in 1987. For proof, here he is backed by nothing more than an acoustic guitar and over a hundred trained singers.

Edit: Now I know why he challenged Dave Grohl to sing with Choir! Choir! Choir!

I just walked home through Kelvingrove Park as it started to rain very heavily. I took shelter under a tree, and was stuck in the park for a good half hour. Meanwhile, I could hear poor old Billy Bragg was warming up for his gig in the park this evening - it was a really eerie experience - leaden skies, heavy rain and glimmers of bright stage lights glistening through the trees, all to the dulcet tones of Billy Bragg. I hope it dries up a bit before the gig, as that was some rain shower that just passed right over the venue...

Well it’s release day and having just picked up the record of the new Utopia Strong LP, I’m having a listen to the digital on my way home.
