Yeah, I'm on an 80s kick at the moment.

Curiosity Killed The Cat - Down To Earth

A SoundCloud buddy of mine, Reinis Jaunais... the most talented musician I've ever met personally.

Reinis came to Glasgow a few years back and played a gig at a terrible, dingy bar on Sauchiehall Street* infront of a largely indifferent audience (except for me and my girlfriend) - the bar was so bad that most of the people couldn't even see him from where the seats/booths were arranged relative to the 'stage', but he blew the place away and got a standing ovation after his set nevertheless.

He came over to join me and my girlfriend after his set and I bought him a large single malt whisky, and he gave us both a couple of homemade CDs of his work and regaled us with stories of his trips through Syria with nothing but a backpack and a guitar to see him right.

Two weeks ago, shortly after arriving in NZ for a tour of eclectic venues, he broke his arm on a family holiday. Amazingly, however, he has not cancelled any gigs, citing the fact that he has rearranged his repertoire to be 'tapping only' and that he can play with just one hand and delay pedals etc.

I can safely say that if anyone can pull off such a feat, it's this guy. He's an incredible talent and if you get the chance, check out his work on Spotify or SoundCloud.

* that narrows it down

It feels like whatever I post will be a letdown bordering on insult after that virtuoso performance by Reinis Jaunais, so apologies but it's what I'm listening to right now.

Swing Out Sister - Here And Now. That bird with the chin and her ex-ACR chum definitely had the Burt Bacharach thing down pat by the time their fifth LP came out. It was very big in Japan (the album, not her chin).

You have sent me down the Merry Clayton rabbit hole, and I just want to say... Thank you.
You're very welcome. I discovered her first album while down the "pick a random album with a girl in an afro on the cover" rabbit hole.

Carol Woods - Baby Don't You Leave Me

Carol Woods - Why You Wanna

Dude that rocks, I've never heard it before but it instantly sounds like a song that should be iconic.

I'm trying to get back into transcribing on saxophone and I love this version of Blue Bossa by Art Pepper:

That's what this thread is about for me. I think it's by far their best single.

Pepper is one of the greats but for my money nothing tops Joe Henderson's live version with its smoking Japanese rhythm section.
