1985 Volvo 240 DL
Really my parent's former car, but under my name to keep their insurance down. For the 2 years I drove it, the odometer went from 99,000+ to 110,000+. Not quite fun to drive at that point.
1989 Mercury Sable GS
Something my grandmother bequeathed to me. Had only 25,000 miles on it when I got it in 1995 (she didn't really drive much). Very grateful for it during college, not that I knew any better what constituted a "good" car or a "bad" car.
1998 Subaru Outback Sport (Impreza)
My first new car, and first purchased car. Got a lot of use from it, but a lot of problems, too. Clutch went bad after 1 year...and then 3 more times after that within 5 months. Problem? Not me, thankfully, but a warped pressure plate that the boneheads at the dealership never caught. Started learning about cars because of this.
2001 Subaru Impreza 2.5RS
From the same dealership, no less. Apparently, I hadn't learned my lesson. But from my reading, Subaru was the car to have (I read a lot of British auto rags: CAR, evo). Since the Lancer Evo wasn't due here anytime soon and the [lying] sales rep didn't know exactly when the WRX was to arrive, the v5 RS was the one for me. Beatiful to drive, great handling, and *feedback*! A bit sluggish, but I was still learning.
2002 Subaru Impreza WRX
Why so soon? Last one got totaled (on vacation, by some guy drowsy on anti-depressants). And again, the same dealership. He gave me a hell of a deal, though, even after the many options. A better driver now, so I really miss the feedback (a problem to be fixed by 17" wheels), but everything else is fan-fricken-tastic. Want the STi version, now.
