What changes should be done to the UI?

Among the details recently revealed about GT6 was an overhaul of the User Interface (UI), a point which has received some plenty of criticism in GT5.

New User Interface:
*Balancing directional key operation and touch operation
*Quick response
*Shortening of loading times

Apparently, PD listens closely to the constructive feedback given by their fanbase and specially by GTP so lets give them some in this aspect. Personally, I think the following simple fixes can be done to the UI:

*Make the car list remember the sorting order you use or perhaps even allow us to create our own categories.
*Allow much better control during replays.
*Staying in the Dealership after buying a car instead of being thrown back to the GT Life menu.
*A GT Life menu a la GT4 (for old times sake, with separate dealerships and tunning shops/one make events, etc.)

Which fixes to the UI would you do?

It's too late now since the game is technically pretty much done. But for the next one, I would like to see a completely new and improved UI. Different sounds, different designs, etc. everything should be redone. I think it'll make a great change since most of the sounds and others came straight from older GTs. But that's just my opinion and many GT fans will disagree.

So far, it does seem more responsive. One thing I did notice that's so far carried over from GT5 (and I'll admit, this is an early build) is the painful wait when a track loads up, you select the Start Race button, and the game just sits and waits for the rest of the track to load. They added this mid-way through GT5 - in response to criticisms of the long load times between the menu and the actual race - but it's still not any quicker, it just gives us the pre-race menu screen a bit earlier. We get to see the field slowly get populated with the competitors, too.

I'm fine with giving us access to the pre-race menu quicker, but perhaps just leave the "Start Race" button grayed out until it will actually take me to the race. It's frustrating clicking it, only to wait something like 20-30 seconds to get to the track. But if the menu does load up, we can at least head to options or settings while we wait 👍

GT1 had a bread-crumb trail on every page and even used the shoulder buttons for menu navigation. We should have a return to that, too.

Being able to name/tag cars in your garage and to be able to organise your garage.

I don't know about others but I own multiple versions of cars with different tuning parts and I want to be able to find them easily.

Even a simplified file/folder based system would do, as long as they can be named.

I currently colour code cars but then this falls over when some cars have fixed graphics :-( e.g race cars

Ohh this is something i thought would not get noticed. Glad others out their realise the importance of the user interface. I was really pleased to hear them specifically mention enhancements to the UI. Unfortunately i don't think it'll be as broad reaching as i'd hoped... but at least its something. Because those agonizing moments waiting for GT5 to load only to have to wait more agonizing moments to get into the multiplayer section was just painful and really poorly done (did they not test this damn game while they made it!?).

A few things i wished were included (just off the top of my head.. iknow there are more).

1) Fast Game Loading - Like previous GT's the game should load really fast right to the MP menu. Games with muliplayer aspects to them mostly have this these days. It makes sense. This includes taking away all internet dependent loading. This is SERIOUSLY POOR LOGIC for UI designers!

2) More Detail on Screen - Yes we have 1920 x 1080 output yet we still only show a few columns of data or a have a list of cars only in the middle 1/3rd of the screen! There are lots of areas that can benifit from putting more information on screen (Garage for example).

3) Better Race UI - This can be included into point 2). But is important enough to stand alone. Yes its 2013... let us customise the HUD. Or at teh very least.. give us options to enable far more information that gets displayed on screen during racing. (eg. splits between previous car and car in from as well as from the leader / fastest lap/sector overall and my fastest lap/sector.

4) User Definable Names & Descriptions - This game is HUGE... PD.. please.. for the love of GOD, let us give saved replays, ghosts, and vehicles user definable names and descriptions (and have them as searchable / sortable columns!).

5) Online Game Browser - Let user have a more specific search critera. I want to find games in my country ONLY. *not* combined with Europe! (no offense guys!) ;) STOP WITH THE ARTIFICIAL UNNECESSARY LIMITATIONS. And show more detail (again). We are not stupid.. tell us what the latencey is to each server so we can use it to get the best game possible. Not everyone is 12 and just wants Green/Yellow/Red indicators or 4 bars that could mean anything!

This is my QuickList. Thank you come again. :P

They confirmed better loading times.

The bars would still be needed. Not everybody knows if, as example, a ping of 100ms is good or not.

I personally don't really like that image of the layout. I don't want to scroll sideways to find something, I'd like it all on one place like the current GT5 one.

The World view from past titles is still my favourite, even though you could argue it had some side scrolling to find each area, it was still generally in one spot.

For one, during practice mode, I'd really like to be able and load a new car to drive on the fly without having to quit, change car, select track again, laod the entire thing etc.

That's what killed GT5 for me. I like to perform hotlaps between many different cars to compare times but in the current game it's just needlessly complicated, slow and a huge headache.

Bring back the city menu from GT4! i remeber them saying that older menu style was too complicated, but I think GT5 is no better, at least older ones looked great and had some sort of personality, GT5 looks like a software installing (race loading, trading multiple tickets, etc.) plus the tickets was a waste of time to me, why not simply a congratulations screen with the car you got instead of having to go and trade the ticket, or simply add it to the garage, let us, at least, arrange the cars in the menu manually, let us sell multiple cars at a time or buy them, I remember when i was cleaning the garage, it took me a lot to buy cars one by one, also paint chips, i always quit the game trying to find the "right" paint for my car so to speak, since the preview doesn't help much, i can't think of anything else right now, don't get me wrong, i played the hell out of GT5, I still do (I have the platinum) but this things in the long run are annoying, at least for me.

The garage needs a complete makeover, esp. the online-version: I want it to remember my preferences, show as many information at once as possible (PPs, drivetrain, year, weight, ...) for each car. It should have combinable filters, too.

So let's say I want to find cars which were made between 1980 and 1990, Italian or Japanese manufacturer, 450-475 PP, 4x4 or a FH.

Today this means a lot filtering, searching and switching... Let's get rid of that.

I agree. :)
