What did you want to be growing up?

When I was really young I wanted to be a race car driver of course. Then I wanted to be an auto mechanic because I would go into work with my dad sometimes and I thought it was cool working on cars. Then my interest in cars dwindled and I got into military stuff so I wanted to be a soldier.

Now that in interested in cars again, I want to be an auto mechanic. And I think I very well may be as I've been working at my dad's shop for a little over a year now and also taking an auto tech class. As frustrating as it can be, I still enjoy it quite a bit.

I am pretty much in this boat. I have many hobbies, but none I would truly want for a job. I was told to never make a job out of something you love; as you'll eventually look at it as a job and not something you love.

Same. There's a bunch of things I want to do like make 3d animation sequences, photographs using high-end equipment, and digital painting with a large drawing tablet, but I never considered either one to be a permanent full-time. It'd be awesome if I could be a part of a team to make something that will gain recognition, it's just the school part and job hunting I really don't like doing.

Well, as a little kid, my initial option was race car driver, obviously (almost every 7 year old male wants that), and then I moved to wanting to be in a band when I was 9, and then I wanted to be a mechanic a year later, and then got interested in music again when I was 11, and I haven't looked back. Still want to be a musician, which is sort of a bad idea because it's such a difficult line of work to rely on (hence why I have backup options in architecture, and sound tech). All I can do is work two jobs until one takes up more than the other, which if my initial plan goes correctly, will be music. (yeah, I'm still hopeful, don't take that from me :P)

I always wanted to be a race driver, then when I realized how much I like the actual car designs, I wanted to be a car designer, and a driver on the side.

After a while, I learned that I'm a fairly good artist, but not wholly innovative in that respect, but I'm a boss at solving problems and getting things to work. I shifted my career choice to automotive engineer.

That was when I was about 14. Now I'm aiming for Aerospace, because there's plenty of business and infrastructure here.

Be a transformer :D

But as a serious job? Pilot. Then racing driver. Then transformers voice actor. Then musician. Then racing driver again and now car designer. I'm very serious about it and I am aiming to get into Coventry design university for it. Here's hoping I get the grades!

I wanted to be grown up. Still trying.

TBH - though, I wanted to become a writer.

I did. Wasn't a big deal after all.

Sex was, though; I got married. Twice. Oh! well.. . .

When I was (relatively) small, I wanted to be a policeman, which is a dream most children shared, I think. Then I grew up, and gradually developed an interest in motorsport. That's when I wanted to be a professional race driver. Then a few years later, I realised that was a dream that would be impossible to achieve. Now I just want to be a lawyer/an architect/an accountant/anything that will make me moderately rich.

But I have one dream that existed throughout my growth: to be taller.

When I was little I wanted to be a test driver. Not to be confused with a race car driver, that's not what I was interested in. I didn't know much about racing back then (still don't, really :dopey:). But what I did know was sports cars, and that's what I wanted to drive. I wanted to have the dream job of working for the manufacturer, testing these cars. I envisioned it as constantly being able to do top speed runs on the old Test Course from GT2. Still seems like a pretty good choice to be honest.

Test driving prototypes is an amazing job. The feeling that you're hammering a car no one else has ever driven must be epic.

It's not....... Well it wasn't for Mercedes anyway. I did that gig for about a year for MDE in Denver. Mercedes "camouflaged" the cars, so at every single stoplight and gas station people would take pictures of the car. If you went full throttle, Mercedes would call, because they black-boxed the cars, and you could lose your job. If you cornered too hard, phone call from Germany. If too many pictures were leaked of your car - call from Germany. If you played with any instrumentation that you weren't supposed to touch - call from Germany. You had very detailed, stressful routes you had to take and if you deviated at all, whether the road was closed or there was an accident - call from Germany. And if Germany calls more than three times in a month you'd lose your job. Then when Mercedes would send reps over to ride along in the car they would shout orders at you like a rally co-pilot. TURN RIGHT HERE, STOMP THE BRAKES, BANK LEFT HARD, KLIEN MITLEID, KLIEN MITLEID!!!!!

I can so see that happening !

In addition to my previous post, I've for quite some time (a few years) wanted to become a radio host. I've been told, that I have a "typical radio host voice". Also, voice acting. I'm to ugly to become an actor, so going "behind the camera", is better :P.

When I was very young, my ambition was to drive a steam train. As I got older, I wanted to be a racing driver in F1. My ambitions began to get more realistic as I continued to grow up with wanting to race in the British Touring Car Championship by starting in karting before going to Ginetta Juniors. But now that I'm 20, those dreams have long since evaporated.

Dig dinosaurs out of the the earth.

Lol, I too wanted to be a paleontologist. :P I loved Jurassic Park. Then at one time, I wanted to be a chef. And the latest was being a mechanic. Lol, I don't even know what I want to be now. :P

At various points I wanted to be a train engineer (still a railfan today), doctor (specifically a radiologist - I wanted the money without having to perform brain surgery), race car driver (of course), car designer, architect, civil engineer, video game tester, and video game designer. I was never really totally sure what I wanted to be until I figured out that being a professional musician was all I could see myself doing. I'm currently getting a degree towards just that and am also part of a video game development company. I'd say it's working out pretty well so far. 👍
