What do you do to keep focus when in the race?

I got a new Ford Focus last Monday and always lock it when I'm not using it. That's how I keep my Focus when I'm racing.:dunce:

(If I'm in a pack, it's all act and react. No time for anything else really, especially thinking.)

Oddly enough, once I run enough laps, my mind can wander and it's no issue. Its all muscle memory.

I force myself to focus if I'm in a pack/in a battle for position. But if I'm on my own, I can space out a bit and hold my race pace
This too 👍

I was doing qualifying laps on Brands Hatch Indy the other evening and I realised I had zoned out and done about 3 laps without concentrating. Different in a race though :)

My wife has been trained, she'll ask "Are you qualifying or in a race?" Then she knows if it's cool to step in front of the TV and sit on the couch.
Wow ;)
After the last experience I also asked mine to check what's on the TV and appear in front of me only when I'm in a straight, and never ever come accross before corners :)

I noticed if I'm over focused in the heat of the battle, then it's too easy to miss turn in points or apex, so it's better to stay mentally relaxed, which doen't mean lost focus, but cutting off the sorroundings and literally live inside the race.

I just push hard, but not beyond my limit, if I go too slow I make mistakes, if I try things I'm not capable of (or are just wrong) I make mistakes, keep it around 95-98(maybe 99)% and I can lap consistently all day long
