What Exactly is Assetto Corsa Competizione? 505 Games Registers New Domain Name

Pure speculation on my part but I think they have been approached by various motorsports organizations and individuals (that's not speculation) and this deal with Blancpain probably seemed to them the best way to get their feet wet with the Unreal engine without having to take on the task of doing a huge game like AC2 out of the gate with this unfamiliar software. I think they'll get this up and running and be fiddling around with various street cars and vintage race cars in the same software back at the office to see how things go before they decide which direction they'll head in the future. I'm sure it's exciting times for them at Kunos and this more limited opportunity probably fits with their objectives at the moment.
Unreal engine? As in - Kunos is scrapping what they've created so far? Does this mean it will have dumbed down physics?

No. From the community blog published today:

Q: Does AC Competizione use the UE4 Engine’s physics?
A: AC Competizione will feature an evolution of the physics engine already used in Assetto Corsa, completely independent from UE4’s built in physics.

Ah, that's good!

You should head over to the ACC forum for more information but they are basically doing a copy/paste with the physics part of the code because the UE4 engine allows them to do so but it also allows them to refine and improve even more. Sounds good on paper of course, let's see how it turns out in reality:sly:

Plus, ACC physics will now be truly 64-bit. That alone doesn't really mean much. Greater precision if you want to go 30 decimal spaces in your calculations... :sly: But seriously, there are some things that will be better off. The "distance from 0,0,0" problem will no longer exist. Stefano joked that you could make a road to Mars (or was it the moon?) and back and the physics engine won't begin to freak out the way our beloved AC physics engine often would.
