This has been on my mind for sometime, so thought I'd ask. :)

There was a story on the news page a while back (before GT5 was released) that talked about "Monaco" being in GT5.

Here's the link: https://www.gtplanet.net/monaco-f1-circuit-in-gran-turismo-5-yamauchi-interview/

Car Magazine has just posted a new interview with Kazunori Yamauchi, as part of their big feature on the Red Bull X1 Prototype.

It’s a good read (keep in mind it was conducted before the delay), but the most interesting revelation actually comes from a small new screenshot included in the article, taken from inside the X1’s cockpit at the Monaco F1 circuit.

Of course, the track is not new to the series – it first appeared in GT3 as “Cote d’Azur” (renamed, presumably, for licensing reasons), and it’s good to know it’s back for GT5.

^^was that just mistaken for Cote de Azur??

The other thing that was itchin' my brain for some time was that "race modded" Mini Cooper:

^^scrapped??

Any input would be great! :sly:

Yeah thats defo a race modded mini or a mini cup car...

Why scrap premium cars when there are so little to begin with?!?!

I dont think that particular trailer used in-game footage. Perhaps they werent done, and they had some kind of rudimentary Livery-editor test thing to see if it worked. Also, it may have been added by a graphic designer because it appears the rest of the cars in-shot are race cars, and a bog-standard Mini would look out of place

Cote d' Azur is Monaco F1 track.

About the car, it looks the same as the stock model - it just has some stickers, most likely a cup car which never made it onto final version of the game.

Yea it's very confusing. 💡

"Cote d' Azur", "Monaco" or "Monte Carlo" - it's all the same.

Monte Carlo (French: Monte-Carlo, Occitan: Montcarles, Monégasque: Monte-Carlu) is an administrative area of the Principality of Monaco. [WIKIPEDIA]Monte Carlo[/WIKIPEDIA]

The Côte d'Azur, often known in English as the French Riviera (French: Côte d'Azur; Occitan: Còsta d'Azur; that is “Azure Coast”), is the Mediterranean coastline of the southeast corner of France, also including the sovereign state of Monaco. [WIKIPEDIA]French Riviera[/WIKIPEDIA]

GT5's Monaco is woefully inaccurate. It's far too wide and there are too many walls where there shouldn't be.

The map of GT5 track is hand-drawn by GTP mod AMG.
Of course there are some mistakes but he did a good thing to the community, and it took him some time - well done to him.
And omg at the vid, I laughed how Schumy lost his front wing.

Yev

I'm talking about the actual course, in-game, not the map.

Yea it's a hell to drive on it, everywhere walls & very low space for overtaking manoeuvres.

But it's my favourite F1 race to watch in TV. A very unique atmosphere there. My #1 to visit anytime IRL. :dopey:👍

They skipped one of the DLC slots when they released the Edge. There's at least one more that's current, maybe it's the Cooper. Then you need to pray for it to be released in your region.

All I know is that the Mini looks like it's based directly off of the Mini Copper JCW cup car. There's no mixing up that dorky spoiler :)

I'd love to see this car come as a DLC. Imagine the Online Racing community with it!

This 370GT Tuned from Prologue is missing too. You cannot even get the same front spoiler from GT Auto in GT5

I almost burst into laughter when I read that.

As was already illustrated, Côte d'Azur (or, as I like to call it in way of making fun of GT and PD, "Cotex Diaper") is the same thing as the real-world Monaco street circuit. The reason I mock GT and PD for using "Côte d'Azur" is that, while technically accurate in Côte d'Azur including Monaco which includes the Monaco circuit, it's sort of ridiculous to use such a generic name for a circuit known for many decades and globally as "Monaco". It would be like calling Daytona Speedway "Florida" or Laguna Seca "US West Coast".

The actual circuit is "Circuit de Monaco", and the Formula One grand prix is the "Grand Prix de Monaco". It's Monaco. "Monte Carlo" technically covers part of the circuit, though not all of it, and "Côte d'Azur" covers it and a whole bunch of surrounding territory so it technically works, but the proper and best name for it is "Monaco".

I strongly object to "Côte d'Azur".

I think Bernie Ecclestone would be at PD head office pretty quickly if they called it Monaco, Circuit de Monaco, or Monte Carlo.

Not many games have the "real" Monaco, but many have a street circuit with tight chicanes in a wealthy looking area on the beach with a name that makes a reference to the area around Monaco. I'm pretty darn sure (ie 100% positive) this is not because they prefer their name over "Monaco GP Circuit", but because of license fees.

Lots of games do similar things with other tracks as well.

Similarly, did you ever play Goldeneye on the N64? All of the guns in that game were obviously based on real weapons, but had different names. Not because they liked their names better, but because it's cheaper to have a gun called the KA-70 instead of the AK-47.

Bernie Ecclestone does NOTHING fast. Nothing. Especially now that he wants 4 Cylinders? I was hoping they would go back to V12's soon, but its going backwards!

Blame CO2. Car companies want to get something out of the development of the cars. How are they going to use a V12 in a passenger car that will sell well to many people? They won't.

I don't think Bernie would own any rights to Monaco, think of the independent Monaco Grand Prix games, I think the Ubisoft ones were the most recent. And if you see the circuit during the races each year there are stylized billboards of Monaco Grand Prix. I think that license, which someone probably has the rights to develop would be the reason.

I've never thought of the track as inaccurate as someone complained here, it compares to that of other games produced like f1 2010 and when I walked the circuit the week before the race last year I didn't think anything was too unrealistic spacially, apart from the extra walls in the swimming pool sector since f1 opened that up over the last decade or so and other recent FIA tweaks.

Bernie is kinda with you on this one actually, he is worried the new engines will sound crap and lose him money :-) he couldn't care less about relevance to the industry or technological development.

Aston Martin GP, Team BMW/Rolls-Royce, Mercedes/Maybach GP, Bentley, Ferrari. I think manufactures know that F1 tech isn't very practical when putting it into cars. Paddle shifters, maybe, but still.

Go to Le Mans if you want something to help your average consumer.

Edit- Doesn't the previous generation of M5 use a modified BMW Sauber engine?
