What if GT7 never comes..

I reckon one more flop like GT6 and PD will go under and with everything I've seen of GTS I don't think this is going to end well.

Perhaps Sony should buy Kunos? Just don't give the head a position on the Sony board though. That would be silly - splitting your time between two jobs like that...

And a gentleman racing career. And hobnobbing with motoring bigwigs, and driving your eight cars.

It must be a tough life. I'm surprised he has any time to work on Gran Turismo at all.

If Gran Turismo 7 never comes out, I will continue playing the older Gran Turismo games and look elsewhere for racing games like Forza. I am not a fan of Gran Turismo Sport. I hope Gran Turismo 7 does come out, but if Gran Turismo Sport is Polyphony's end game, I am done and moving on with Gran Turismo. It has been a fantastic 20 year run!

If GT7/8/9 never comes out,I'll play other racing games like i'm doing it these days, because I finished with GT6 after half a year after its release and then I moved to games which give me more fun and fresh emotions

...If GT7 never comes out? Then I'll play something else, I guess.

Honestly speaking, if GT:S tanks and GT7 is affected by that, then well, just wait til it's a new console generation, because there will be the inevitable reboot of the franchise incoming by then...

GT6 sold 5million, more than any other game released during its time. GTS trailer 3 weeks ago reached more than 1million views and the new one is even better so I guess it will also get good numbers. Going to their website and watching trailer I think the game is going to do great. If for some reason the game does not sell more than 5million they might change the name to GT7 for their next game. GTS is pretty much GT7. It is emphasizing on online races with race cars that is why its name is Sports

It was reduced to budget price very quickly indeed mate. Way, way before that normally happens. Whichever way you want to look at it Sony were expecting better and they didn't get it.

As far as I'm concerned GTS is repeating the exact same mistake as GT6. Online at the expense of one player.

Thinking about what Kazunori said about the fact this game could be called GT7, but isn't... that alone makes me think GT7 is coming. There is no possible way Polyphony would be satisfied with leaving GT:S at its current state when you consider what Gran Turismo has been historically known for; lots of vehicles old and new, lots of locations, interesting racing challenges etc.
Remember last year when someone at Sony said this game would be more than a Prologue but less than a full game? It's pretty clear that's the case here. PD want to jump on the e-sports, trendy online racing fad that we are seeing with the rise of Twitch and League of Legends, DoTA and others. What better way than a GT3-esque lightweight game with improved details to make it more favourable to players and spectators alike.

Couldn't have said it better myself.

I wholeheartedly and unreservedly pray that this is the case.

I think I'll die if GT7 doesn't manifest itself at some point. OK, I'll die anyway, but you know what I mean.

He doesn't have to, he's got 200+ employees to do that for him. ;)

Hope not mate...

Normally i would say that there is too much money to make with a classic style GT game on PS4 (redesigned and improved, of course) and GTS will become a full on esports title for the future, BUT.................... i'm not so sure right now.

Because it takes PD such a long time make things happen, my perception is that maybe they are overwhelmed by the competition and hoping to change the franchise so it doesn't face the other sims head on.

What hurts me the most is that GT7 could be so simple... about 300 cars, montly DLC, better sounds, all the tracks from previous games, just a couple new ones, compelling career, simple and stable MP... no need for driving on the moon and other 'creative' stuff... i know 'new' is good and necessary, but to me, making it simple but well done would be more than enough to dump my money on it...

The biggest threat to GT, I think won't be sales, but whether PD's slow development pace can keep up with the rapid march of technology, or even whether gaming consoles will still exist as we know it. I think we'll see PS5, but I'm doubtful about PS6. We see console cycles are getting shorter, with these stop gap consoles (PS4K, XBS) coming out halfway through the generation. We also see MS starting to assimilate XB and PC gaming. Console architecture getting closer and closer to PC. Steam now has more users than PS4+XB1 combined (100 million IIRC). Also the ever prominent threat of mobile gaming with future generations. Where will Sony be in the future? If one GT game takes longer than a console lifespan, I don't think that's sustainable for PD/Kaz.

GT Sport is obviously not 'it'. Look at all of the features cut away that they've worked on for years, course maker, the GPS thingy, stuff that wouldn't make sense for a focused racer but they're not just going to totally drop it all, nor are they going to just completely drop the wide-ranging car roster. There quite obviously will be another game and it will most likely be called GT7.

Exactly.

GT7 has gotta happen.

GT7 will happen. In some form. In the IGN video that uploaded yesterday Kaz said GT1-GT6 was the last generation and GT Sport was the beginning of the new generation. It doesn't make sense to end the series just after ONE GAME in this new generation. ;)

I agree, I do not think Gran Turismo Sport is it, I cannot be. It is lacking WAY too many things to be a Gran Turismo game. I think there will be a Gran Turismo 7 with a breathtaking revamp of all the original Gran Turismo tracks.

...Oh hey, just a passing thought:

What if GT:S proves to be a runaway hit?

....Should we expect GT:S2 instead of GT7? :indiff:

Both. Once GTSport is created, GTSport 2 is a relatively simple affair. The template is there it's just a matter of adding cars and features. The success of GTSport, whatever that is, should establish a market for two different types of GT games, the more casual and fuller GT7 and the more serious, slimmer, tighter online racer in GTSport. Both can co-exist with crossover in the car, track and feature list.

...When I got quoted by you, I half expected to see Modern Family "Why Not Both" meme. Oh well, next time maybe.

Another passing thought:

If GT:S tanks, wouldn't that hasten the appearance of GT7? Like, it launching next year? Obviously I'm guessing here, but wouldn't GT7 run on basically the same engine as GT:S?

Meaning, all PDI have to do to "develop" GT7 is to add more stuff onto core GT:S and et voila, there you go.

If Sport is not a success sales-wise, that possibly - maybe - puts a bit of pressure on PDI's shoulders to release ASAP the next main numbered game that is known to shift units on brand recognition alone - hence me saying GT:S bombs -> GT7 next year.

Again, if I'm wrong don't quote me on it.

I don't think "hasten" is in Kaz's vocabulary to be honest:sly:. I expect GT7 before the holiday season next year anyway. GTSport looks to be pretty barren feature wise and I expect the majority of updates and DLC to be only cars and tracks. Just guessing at this point really.

I did consider the "why not both" meme..but I was on my phone when I posted that:lol:

...In retrospect, maybe "hasten" wasn't a right word after all. :boggled:

Oh hang on a sec, what if PDI pile on DLC after DLC for GT:S, and later in the following year they slyly rename the game to GT7???

Now wouldn't that be a real ballsy move.

Don't mind me, guys - just thinking out loud here...

It would be ballsy but not very profitable. Most of the revenue comes from new game sales. Tough to beat moving 10 million games by releasing DLC which is only picked up by a fraction of the fanbase.

From the ign interview, he said just like GT1, GT Sport represents a new fresh direction for the franchise. So many times, he said GT Sport could've been called GT7. Yes, he said could've and is not, but the reason wasn't because of it being a smaller game, rather emphasizing the game's new sport mode. If there wasn't this new sport mode or esport, it would probably be called GT7, as he says it has the scale to be a full size GT game.

Seriously, I've seen zero official indication that we'll get a traditional GT in the future. I only see hopes, dreams, and assumptions. Please prove me wrong.

Nowhere near the scale of a full size GT game. It has photomode, livery editor a handful of cars and tracks and online racing. It's missing hundreds of cars, dozens of tracks, has no traditional offline career, no dynamic time of day or weather, no car upgrading or modification and a whole host of other features GT players are used to.

There's been no indication that GT7 is not coming and specific statements from Sony that GTSport is most definitely not a replacement for GT7. Given that the first 6 full versions of the game sold 70+ million copies I'd say it's a pretty safe bet GT7 will show up in the near future.

So what are you suggesting, all GT games going forward will be like GT Sport, focused online racers with most of the content and features cut away? The next game probably won't be a clone like GT1-6 pretty much were, but GT Sport definitely won't be the only way going forward.
