What is "Average Gold" ranking?

On the Gran Turismo website under trophy rankings there is a stat called "Average Gold". I can't find any explanation of what that means.

Perhaps the average number of gold trophies per player in that country?

Well I've done my part to bring up the average.

Most of the challenges can be golded just by staying on track. So even a poor player should be able to gold over half. There must be alot of players that entered and quit without golding anything.

Yep. Only about 1/10th have stayed on it to put up a time on 8-5. It was always going to happen.

I golded every single one for God and country. Nah, just kidding. I did it for the cars and suit. /fail me
