attached below is part of an article printed in classiccar magazine Febuary 2002 it looks at what was at one time regarded as the best car in the world . the comparison was done between a Rolls Royce Silver Shadow , Jaguar V12, Mercedes Benz 450SEL 6.9 lt and a Cadilac Sevile. In there opion the Jag was at that time regarded as the best car in the world, and as I have the later more improved verison of that car I'm pretty happy

This isn't the best car in the world, I just had to post it. I know 550bhp @ 9000rpm sounds alright, but :mclaren: still better. It's a picture of a Koenigsegg CC.

The Mclaren is good, but i think the Hennessey 800 TT viper is better, The only thing that the McLaren is better at is top speed. Both of them are awesome.

Heres 800 TT stats:
0-60: 2.4 sec
0-100: 5.5sec
0-150: 12.9
1/4 mile: 10.1
top speed: 235mph

The Mclarens acceleration isnt as good. Does a 1/4 mile in 12 sec. and 0-60 in under 4

Unofficially however, they have SMASHED the records posted by Maclearen. Look at their website or the latest issue of EVO magazine. (I don't have it, it was 11.00, so I just read it there..)

There's a number of reasons the McLaren is considered the fastest production car. Most of them are straight line, but the F1 excels in lateral (slalom) and braking as well. Coming in first and second in just about every category would give most people the idea the it *is* the fastest production car. Further, those records were only smashed on paper.

The only "11" I could find in the article is "1,100 kg", the weight of the CC. No quarter-mile times were given. However, this number is still significant: less weight usually means better performance in all areas (lateral, braking, etc. -- just ask Lotus). Good things await when the ice thaws in Sweden. :)

Great, and I suppose I should counter with someone's Top Fuel dragster? ;) "Fastest Production Car" refers to cars that are in production, not one-off's or aftermarket modifications. :P

Honda S2000

For sheer speed you guys are right. But for beauty and grace and enough speed to pull away from 80% of what you will encounter on the road...and impress the ladies. Mercedes 1957 300SL Gulllwing.
Or per the late Henry Manney (if you don't know who he was pick ap an old issue of Road and Track magazine) "the greatest crumpet catcher known to man" The Jaguar E-type, coupe and convertible. It don't matter how fast you are if the girlies think it's loud, uncomfortable, or ugly.:D

how could no one mention the e30 m3? that is the most beautiful pure motorsports car there is. it is so pretty, yet all of the prettiness has function.

btw, i dont agree with that list you made. i think new cars are for wealthy and non car ppl. for the $20k for one of those adequate sedans you could get a used m3/944/911/240sx/supra whatever. theres no way i could buy a new car while knowing what i could get with that money used. as much as i would love an s2000, and as much of a bargain it may be, i could find an nsx for less. and have the pleasure of taking care of it.

It's not especially pretty, but it does look the part. Compact enough, powerful enough, and handles like the d!ckens. The E30 is high on the list for me, too.

Spoken like someone who hasn't got much money. :) Really, money "doesn't mean anything" until you don't have any (or enough). I see some of the wealthiest people in the world every day. Every. Damned. Day. It's not just the same ones. There's new ones all the time. I drive through Bedford, Scarsdale, Greenwich (the "poor section" has houses in the US$ 6-12 million range)...it kind of makes you jaded after a while. Or wretchedly sick...with jealousy...or not. Lots of nice cars to go with it. My own supercar list could be culled from a month of service calls. Makes it hard for me to come up with the "best car". Makes the question of this thread a bit uneven, no?

THE KOENIGSEGG CC 8S

4.7 litre supercharged V8 engine
max power 655bhp@6800rpm
max torque 750Nm
0-100kmh/62mph 3.2sec
Top speed 390kmh/240mph

and the cool thing is that a quick 3 day driving education is included when you buy it :)

Best car in the world?

The Ameritech McLaren F1 Road Car and the TVR Cerbera Speed 12. BOth own the road as the fastest production cars!

The koenigsegg cc is the fastest legal stock road car in production.
But I guess you americans dont know cause you dont have it.
To baaad!

The best car in the world is sitting in your garage/driveway.
But it is only best if you are not sharing ownership with the bank:D.

The best car in the world, in comparison of top speed, accel and handling is the Dauer 962 LM....

There isn't any other ROAD car that could beat it in all three of these categories....

nah, i own my baby outright. savings suffered but at least i didnt pay for some fat bankers new merc

Porsche 911 GT2

But of course the F50 and F40 and Mclaren F1 are very good as well. The Porsche 959 was one of the greatest supercars of its time.

I think the best car in the world would be the Mega Track, its an exoic car that you can take it off-road like an SUV because its a softcore 4WD (like the CR-V and the like), but it has a performance equivalent to a Lamboghini Diablo VT. It also has the height control system that you can adjust it electronically (for higher or lower ground clearance) for offroad cruising. The engine has a Mercedes Benz 6.0L V12 has a power 395hp/5200 rpm and a 570 Nm/3800 rpm of torque. And has a top speed of 250 km/h. The downside? 4-speed automatic tranny. The front bumper light and the tailights came from an old Audi.
