What Is The Best Car To ENJOY The Nurburgring 4 Hours?

I started this race with the Falken GT-R, but I quit because it does 8:50 laps and The Nurb is stressfull enough as it is without having that S2000 GT1 and the Audi constantly breathing down my neck.

Call me lame, but I'm looking for something that would win the race comfortably. Keyword: comfortably, so not the X2010 or FGT. The Minolta, R10 and Escudo are too twitchy for the narrow road... Help!

Any suggestions?

The Acura NSX RM 91

Great handling, and at 315 hp with racing softs you can run somewhat comfortable, eight thirties.
I am currently running it, and at 2hrs in I have an almost 3 minute lead.
Fast lap so far, 8:28.355

Lineup can make a difference here.
Make sure the S2000 GT1 turbo and Audi R-8 are in.
For an easier time, get one where the Audi R-8 starts towards the back.
In my current race the Audi started 9th and the GT1 Turbo 3rd.
The Audi R-8 is the car you have to beat.
This enabled me to build a little lead the first 4 laps.
After that you will pickup time, on the Audi's longer pitstops.

If you want more cushion, use a little more hp.

EDIT: Just a word of warning about this car.
It is very mechanical damage sensitive.
If you hit anything very hard with this car, usually more than once, it will no longer steer or run properly.

I've just completed this race again and chose a race modded Elise, won it far too easily over two laps ahead. I only pitted three times during the whole race reach time around the hour mark. A great car to drive but a bit too easy for this race. I'll try something slower next time

I think I've now got my shortlist down to the following 2 cars:

- Ford GT Spec II lm test car + supercharger : ~700 BHP
- Mazda RX8 Prototype LM race car + stage 3 turbo : ~650 BHP (this is the RX8 that looks like a small 787b)

Both do relatively comfortable 7minute laps on Nordschleife. I noticed the RX8 understeers like a freight train in the standard setup. Nearly unusable. But after loosening the LSD substantially, the car becomes very drivable. Not as quick as the Ford GT, but much easier to drive without mistakes.

Ok so I did this race with the Falken GTR expecting a competitive race. I set up the suspension pretty aggressively using a tune I got here. My fastest lap was 8:25 with most laps in the 8:40ish range. I smacked the competition by over 5 minutes. I used RS/RS, however I also tried RH/RS and had no issue keeping up near to that pace and pulling on the next fastest car. The next car (S2000 GT1) just was not keeping up at all. Did I just get a bum race? I have seen that sometimes in other A-Spec events where randomly the AI just doesn't keep up like they did.

Would a Mitsubishi Evo 05 race mod be good for this?

Actually the S2000 GT1 2004(not the turbo model) will probably be good against the 2008 turbo.👍

I did this race yesterday in the Amemiya AsparaDrink RX7.
Oil change (netted 327hp), race softs (chassis/diff/gear tuning) and go.
The S2000 turbo was at the front of the pack.
The AsparaDrink would turn 160mph on the long straight.
Out laps were in the 8.59.xx-9.01.xx range, ran 8.22-8.24 for 2 laps, and 8.32-8.36 for my in lap (really pushing 8.18's were do-able)... likely could have pushed another lap but I hate worn tires. least amount of fuel taken was 20ltrs, most was 40ltrs, and I never got below 3/8 of a tank, and never above 5/8ths.
I took the lead at about lap 3, and gained 7.4x.xx minutes by the end of the race.
Interestingly, the standings at race end showed a 2 lap lead over the 2nd place S2000 turbo... I have no idea how a 7 minute lead equals 2 laps... very bizzarre.
Put 28 laps in (worked perfect with the 4 lap pit statagy) and finished at 4.00.4xx... I slowed a bit on the last 2 sectors to ensure I would not have to run a 29th lap.

Was good fun, but I will use a "tuner" car next time rather than a "race" car... maybe the YellowBird or an M3 or Z06 with tuning goodies but no aero bits... I hate areo bits on "street" cars.

I used the Zonda C12S with an engine rebuild and sports soft. It took a while to get used to (the car is a bit of a handful, especially once the tires have degraded half way), but after two stints I was comfortably edging away from the field. Sports medium or even hard would make it very competitive I'd say. Still, I enjoyed myself very much.

I did this race yesterday. I used the Jaguar XJ13 Race Car '66. I love this car, it's just so much fun to drive.

RS tyres, fully upgraded engine. I pitted every 3 laps (I wouldn't let my rears get more than 50% worn), ran a best lap of 8:15(ish). Crossed the finish line with a 1.5 lap lead over the CT230R '08.

I used the FTO Super Touring Car for the 4 Hour Nurburgring (and 1000km at Suzuka). It's brilliant to drive and handles the bumps like a dream, four hours flew by.

With no mods, and hard racing tyres i was able to win by 7.xxmins, though this was mostly down to the reduced number of pit stops, stints averaging 7 laps. Fastest lap time of 8.37.

I don't think the S2000 with the turbo was on track, neither was the Audi R8 LMS, however, if you take enough sets of tyres to the race im sure you could get a very close race in this car, whatever the competition.

The only negative is that it's a standard car, so if you want to race in cockpit view then this isn't the car for you.

I think I'll try the TVR RM next

I don't know if you enjoy so much as survive 4 hours (or 4 minutes...) of the Nurburgring, but my '04 Mercedes-Benz SL65 AMG is my preferred mount.

Serious answers guys?

You said enjoy it, not win it. I was going to go for a fully tuned VW Beetle 1100 Standard, which is a blast to drive, but not very competitive...

What lap times are you looking to do, constantly over 4 hrs? My most stable car in the Ring is my VW Golf RM car tuned to about 250 hp., I have lapped the Ring maybe 8 times without going into the grass. Rides on rails, and has excellent lap times considering FWD and low hp.

Easiest to drive and winnable is the Evo RM. I can do a 8:20 lap on the 4hr Ring easily. It is such a solid car it feels like a sunday drive.

Now I am going to do it in a Toyota GT-One just for practicing until I can do the Ring 24hr. Of course I have my GT-One on a separate account so I can borrow it for these races without putting any miles on it.

Did it first with the Mines GTR with racing softs, and won it quite comfortably (1 min+). I then did it again with the Arta Garaiya, but this time the Amuse S2000 Turbo and Audi R8 wasn't in the race, and I won by 14 seconds over the HKS CT230r. BTW the pitting strategy by the AI is kinda stupid. Also the gap time between cars at the end is always wrong.

So far I've used the FTO LM & RX8 LM ... just started it again in the Calsonic Skyline '93 on racing hards and it's proving quite a close race so far 👍

That post was quite a while ago :)

Next car up for the epic 4hr challenge ... the Renault Clio Cup Car from this weeks OCD rotation ... stage 3 engine tune takes it to about 364bhp so it should be a good race!

first time i Used the SLR Mclaren, second time the Catrol Toms Supra '97.

The Supra was the better choice, was a great race :).

dunno what i'll use next time, maybe the Mercedes SLS :)
