Immensely desirable, ridiculously rare, seriously fast and indescribably beautiful.

You have to respect a guy who will race such a valuable car. Where's the fun in having a museum piece collecting dust?

Speed Channel used to televise races involving classic cars, as part of the "opening act" of a race weekend. The last one I saw was at Leguna Seca and it featured a Ferrari 250 GT SWB

wow that is alot of vettes you don't like...

my two favorite ferraris have got to be that 250 gto and the 288 gto... i think there are way to many cars to pick one favorite... so add those to the rs 200 and pre 996 911

It's tough to pick an all-time favourite. Particularly since given unlimited funds, all the cars I would buy are in current production.

I would have said the Lamborghini Diablo, because I wanted one for so long. And then when the Murcielago came out, I was fairly unimpressed with the press shots. But then I saw one, and realised that Lamborghini had done it again, in the same way as they did in Miura -> Countach and Countach -> Diablo.

I would have said the Mk1 Impreza, especially since owning one, but they've suddenly gone a bit low-rent, wideboy-stylee. The P1 is still damn smart though.

I'll have to have a think on it.

Oh, and Vat_Man, on the Focus issue, it's become very clear in the last 12 months that Euro-Focus is a very different animal to ROW Focus. Given that CAR is published somewhere outside London, you're right to be sceptical about what it says. Sadly, it seems that you get much less of a Focus than we do. Car is not wrong, it's just that in this instance, what they're saying does not apply to your market. Import one!!

Well, yes - generally no other world markets have ever gotten Cosworth Fords except Britain, right?

no i just dont like the 996... i like the 944 and 968 which are watercooled... but i dont love them to death... (ok maybe the 944 but that is just cause i can own one :D )...its just i feel as if porsche raped the 911 of a certain identity...

i admire the 996 for many things including its grip, chassis, and its engine... its an amazing car... and i especially appreciate it for digging porsche out of there own grave...

i just dont like the boxster... and i feel as if hte 996 is no longer an elite driving machine... by elite i dont mean the rich... i mean the real driver... while the 996, boxster, and 928 are good and even great cars... they re not a 911... they dont have hte legend surrounding the 911... oh i cant explain it really... hope you get my drift

the 993 is just sweeter and i would think its somewhat rarer even in carrera form...

Never, I shall never turn from the Charger for it is my dream car. A 69 Dodge Charger R/T, base color sublime green, black viynl top with a 426 Hemi.

Funny someone mentions Chevettes. I was watching stand up comedy on TV one day and thy guy mentioned how ****ty his car was, and that he had a 1989 Diesel Chevette. I immediately called bull****, they stopped making Chevettes in 1987 and I beileve the diesel only lasted from like 81-84 or something.

Well to say 1 favorite car of all-time is impossible. I can categorize all of my favorite cars though :D

1. Hybrid car - My old Miata that would burn a Z06 :D
2. Muscle car - 1969 Camaro SS with a 502 rat in it :D
3. economy car - VW Jetta TDI - gotta love the turbo diesels
4. AWD - Mitsubishi Evolution 8 here in the states. A car with a total cost of $34,000 invested into it including $4200 in mods that can burn a $82,000 porsche is a cream dream. Plus, under-powered compared to the STI and still whoops the STI on the track :D
5. FR - the Corvette Callaway Sledgehammer, I dreamed about that car as a child
6. FF - VW GTI VR6
7. MR - 1997 MR2 with the turbo engine :D
8. RR - Porsche 959, first car of its kind ever.
9. Priceless car - my old '85 Blazer - Too many memories in that suv
10. Sissy car- VW Beetle Turbo S - ever been burnt by a chick's car ???
11. Concept cars - Dodge Razor
12. Family car - VW Passat W8 4-motion
13. Truck - 1995 Ford Lightning
14. Sport Compact Car under $20,000 - Mazdaspeed Protege
15. Sport Compact Car under $30,000 - Evolution 8
16. Functionality over form - Chevy Avalanche
17. Form over Function - Ferrari Enzo

I'll add more later :D

I'm sorry Miata, but I call your BS To the extreme man. I know you're reading that Evo thing straight out of Sport Compact car, where they compared the Vishnu Evo 8, a stock evo 8, a Audi S4, the BMW m3 and the Porsche 911 Carrera 4S.
The Evo you spoke of is the Vishu, which is a Stock Evo with a completly aftermarket tuners package, along with Alot of aftermarket modifications.
The Stock Evo got beat by every car except the Audi S4 in the 60-0 stoping distance.
True the evo's a good competator, but in no way in HELL did it "burn" the porsche as you put it because in no way was it a fair matchup, almost ANY decent performing car with an extra 4 and a half grand into it, can out perform a STOCK sub 100,000 dollar car.
Even if you consider this a fair comparison, it never was more than .5 seconds faster in any test they did, which is faaaarr from "Burning" it.

And I have STILL yet to see a test that shows the Evo 8 outperform the 7 (FAMINE!!!)

Hey driftster why don't you re-read that article again. On the last page of it it says for $34,000 which the base price of an Evolution 8 is $28,xxx you get a car that will beat all of the cars. . . RTFM man, don't call BS without a little research, let me go ahead and help you here. here is the price quote http://www.mitsucars.com/MMSA/Model?ModelID=27&1060474025984

Dam man, .5 seconds. . . Do you know how many racers would kill for that much time gained on a lap. Man, put it together in a race and see how the 2 cars do. Figure the Vishnu Evolution puts .2 seconds on the Porsche every lap. . . make that a normal 30 lap touring car race and do the math on how much the Evolution would beat it by. Now tell me something since you are an avid GT3 player of some sort, would you kill for that gain on a car that is almost $50,000 less???

I saw an APR stage 3 Golf destroy the EVO 8 on a highway. It was pretty funny, and Im pretty sure the Golf costs even less... if money is all that matters when comparing cars.

Real impressive mathmatic skills there. 34,000 - 4,200 = 28.xxx????
ok..

.5 Seconds isn't CRAP of a lead when you're comparing stock cars. .5 Seconds on a lap is EASILY attainable when you're going from stock to modded, and you know damn well it is.

And I can't believe you actually think it's a FAIR Comparison!

You still didn't comment on the fact that there isn't a 30,000 dollar car on the market, that can't blow all other sub 100,000 dollar cars out of the water with 4,200 dollars in modifications.

Considering the Evo is a DECENT contender, they put it up against a 315HP naturally aspirated porsche, which in itself is a good competition, seeing as how they are nearly the same power.
But no you're comparing A "271"(and I say that with the greatest of dissapproval) Evo 8 a rechipped ECU, a Xede piggyback, Turboback exhaust, a larger anti roll bar, an aftermarket clutch, aftermarket brake pads, lighter rims.

Yeah, it's a porsche, but it's not that "great" of a porsche, put the MODIFIED Evo up against a Turbo, which would be on it's playing field, and watch it get burnt.

:mocking F&F: It doesnt matter if you win by an inch or a mile! wining in wining! :end sarcasm:

Thats why I like the skyline. You may all disagree wether .5 seconds is a good or not so good lead but I think we can all agree that a 25 second lead is almost impossible. I say almost becasue the skyline did just that. During it's development the R32 set a production car record at the Nurburgring beating the old record by 25 whole seconds. Hows that for a production car? It also raced in group N racing (sedan racing) and was undefeated for 3 whole years. If only car companies would still put as much effort into todays cars the world would be a better place.
