I watched The Truman Show last night, I liked it. 8/10.

This past weekend I saw X-Men First Class and The Mechanic. I thought X-Men was really well done, and although I can't comment on how well it meshes with the other movies and original TV series/comics, I do know (through my brother, who's seen them all) that they did at least a pretty good job. My question is why are the producers jumping all out of order? They made the 3 new movies, but then X-Men Origins: Wolverine which takes place before any of the movies and now this, which also takes place before the other movies. Then there's the fact that the 3rd movie had a cliffhanger of sorts at the end, leaving room for ANOTHER movie. Why not just go in order? I dunno. Anyway, that aside, I'd give this one a solid 7.5 out of 10. The Mechanic was well done for what it actually is: just another excuse for Jason Statham to go around killing people for the whole movie. That's how I saw it anyway. 6 out of 10.

Thanks for the Black Swan review, Sr. Servo. Generally don't buy the hype, but Aronofsky is a real movie maker, not a Hollywood shill, so I was curious. Now I know I need to see it!

Also, saw X-Men First Class, was pretty good, has potential as the first of a new trilogy.

Can someone tell me what happened in the second half of Jennifer's Body? I wad watching it a party and left right when Megan Fox was telling the blonde girl (Needy? Right after they..umm..shared their moment together) about how she was sacrificed by the rock band at that waterfall. Just a brief overview will suffice :)

That's why I try to stay away from movie reviews and trailers until after I watch it. Watching Black Swan reminded me I need to re-watch Requiem. Glad you liked the review, now I hope you like the movie as well.

If you're asking if the movie gets better, it doesn't. I saw it (yes, I really did) a couple of years ago and though I don't remember exactly, I'm almost sure Megan Fox turns into a bad demon that loses all acting ability (not that it ever had any) and just walks from side to side in skimpy underwear and fake blood.

Watched X-Men First Class. Very good, I was thinking about how it all fits in with the rest of the series throughout, it really started fitting at the end :)

Note: I hadn't actually seen or read anything to do with x-men before this movie :dopey:

I watched se7en recently. It's not the newest movie, but it was awesome. It's kinda like a Saw movie only from the cops perspective.

Megan Fox has acting ability?

Megan Fox has acting ability?

She can act slutty, me thinks ;)

Just saw:

Limelight (Charles Chaplin, 1952) -- Chaplin's last American-made movie tells the story of fading comedians and lost dreams which, to a point, might seem to reflect his own life, coming from being one of the greatest comedians of all time to be lost among the movies with sound and being old. Among all this there's a classic scene in which Chaplin makes a comedy duet along with his longtime comedy rival, Buster Keaton, who was in reality in the same situation.

On a personal note, Chaplin is one of the greatest film makers of all time and this movie has so many cues about his life as 8 1/2 has about Fellini's. There are comedy bits in it, but it's really a drama and at a 137 minute clocktime, it's not really a short one either. It's the perfect movie about an artist's nature and the addictive power of applause. It's a tad philosophical and maybe even pompous and pretentious, but if there's someone who has the right to do it (especially since he wasn't at all in his previous movies), it's Chaplin. In the end, Chaplin still has the power to move the audience, be it in a silent movie or in a talkie. 9/10

Green Lantern (Martin Campbell, 2011)

I give it a 4/10. I have a feeling they cut out a lot of scenes. The characters didn't feel too fleshed out, and they were introduced in such a manner that it almost seemed like they came out of the blue without any proper indication. Going back to why I feel like many parts were cut out, most of the time it felt like watching a bunch of different scenes, one after the other, without really tying up to happened beforehand. It doesn't flow as well as some of the more recent films I've seen this year. On the plus side, the CGI is good, and some of the action scenes were okay at best. Ryan Reynolds does a decent job of Hal Jordan though, and Blake Lively is hot.

Spoiler alert!

Skyline: Cloverfield meets War of worlds meets Robocop. Indestructible Brain sucking aliens scare the britches off the party-hard 20 something Californians. Meantime the military is pathetic and the aliens accidentally dispense superpowers to their favorite food : a human. In return he uses a cinder-block to accomplish that which a Nuclear weapon could not. In the end this sets up a highly wanted sequel where we hope vengeance is in order for all the damage to our brains for watching this fun, strange, and comic spin of H.G. Wells masterpeice. Where does robocop come in? I just remember lots of brains. I like sci-fi meets suspense, but this one is not a winner. 5/10

Watched The Terminator for the first time since I was a kid. Back then, I hated it because I watched Terminator 2 first, so I was confused and angry when Schwarzenegger was the bad guy in this one.

This time though, I rather enjoyed it. The science behind the story is laughable, but still awesome and action-packed. 👍

I watched T1 way before T2, it was the only good Schwartzenegger film at the time. Bad guy, bad accent, no emotional acting required. Shoot, besides Predator I was dissappointed the rest of his career cause he never played another villan, his true nature.

You could use the SPOILER tags... but I digress... anyone who hasn't watched Skyline by now doesn't really care. I know I don't.

Just watched The Sorceror's Apprentice... and only because it was on TV... and only because I switched channels when it started.

And partially because of a sick curiosity as to how bad the movie could be. Every time I see Nic Cage's name on the marquee, it's telling me "AVOID! AVOID LIKE THE PLAGUEEEEE!"

Maybe I should have avoided this one. I merely watched it, actually, because I was waiting for Nic to make a Cage-ism... which he did... does he say "Just Kidding" in all of his movies? Feels like it...

And yet, Nic Cage actually does a credible job in this movie, he plays his role well and brings some human interest to his character. In fact, most of the cast do a fairly good job... and the characters themselves are well-fleshed out, for the most part.

BUT the whole production felt like a Made-for-TV Disney movie with better special effects. There are some interesting parts, especially due to the good CGI, but honestly, it felt like watching a paint-by-numbers Disney production, down to the repetitive use of the soundtrack's lead single. I was expecting them to burst into song and dance at any moment (and a Song-and-Dance duel spell would have added immensely to the movie), but the script is too predictable (I almost laughed out loud at the cheesiness of the line: "I bring science!"), too uneven in terms of action and too contrived to make this anything more than watch-once-and-forget popcorn fare.

6/10.

^ Don't forget the "I need you to climb to the top of that building and kick down the satellite dish down because it's perfectly aimed at all the other dishes on all the other roofs."

To be fair, that's pretty much all I saw of it when the kids were watching it so I thought it might not be a fair assessment but it appears I was correct.

True, if these were available on the android app, or all the other little icons and tools. Either way, the thread is for movie reviews, not reviews of movie reviews mmm-kay?

So we can't discuss with you a movie that you've reviewed. Kinda defeats the purpose of a forum, doesn't it?

Last night I went to see X-Men at the cinema. Very watchable and good pace. Some of the romantic scenes were a bit hard to keep a straight face through though.

Tonight I watched 'Kill the Irishman' which was also good. Based on a true story.

Oh, well if a discussion is in order, let's proceed. Unfortunately that wasn't a discussion. I can quote it again. It was just a "Why are you putting a movie review on the movie review thread?" post.

It was just a "Why are you putting a movie review on the movie review thread?" post.
No, it was a "If you're going to bring up key plot details, use

tags." post.

Selective reading and repetitive arguments. Adios bro., your thread now.
Selective reading? Where? niky mentioned that you could use spoiler tags, you fire back that the thread is not for reviews of reviews. I then clarified what he said only to be met with more lip.

Suggestion - Lose the attitude or it'll be us saying adios to you.

Just a FYI, you can still use spoiler tags on the Android app, you just have to type
and [ /spoiler] (no spaces instead the [ ] on the tags). The spoiler tags may or may not show up correctly on the app--not completely sure on what will happen with the spoiler tags on the app, smiles show up as the text form on the app--but the tags will display correctly on the web forum.

EDIT: Trying out spoiler tags from my Droid. First part of post was done on computer, edit on Droid. Anything following in this post will be done from a computer.

EDIT of EDIT: Interesting. The tags work correctly on the forum, but the app shows *SPOILER* and no way to see the spoiler.

EDIT of EDIT of EDIT: The only way I can see what is within the spoiler tags on the Android app is to edit the post. So any one using the Android app cannot see what is within the spoiler tags, unless I am missing something.

But his hair deserves some sort of an award for more depth than any other actor in Hollywood. I have never seen so many various roles taken on with such expertise by any other person or body part.

It was set up by the villain in advance. However, no one complained about their lack of reception, which boggles the mind. Does it rain that hard and that often in New York City that a few days of no reception is normal? I get partial signal loss and I run out to be sure it isn't something on the dish.

Oh come on, if he doesn't want to post, be selective about it and move on.
