Everyone is gone except his first mate. Some new guys were introduced but they weren't memorable the least bit.

^Stopped reading after he dissed Sorcerer's Apprentice.
Is he one of those critics who will hate any movie with even the slightest flaws, or hate anything that makes a lot of money?

Ok, I actually did go in and read the review, I don't like reviews that focus entirely on the enegatives. I like a reviewer who talks about the negatives, but at least talks about the positives. Like this;

I've almost always agreed with this guy, so I'll take his word on it and maybe go see it at some point.

EDIT: Just watched the movie. It was watchable, not nearly as bad as that first reviewer made it out to be, and it was certainly better than the previous 2. It was weird though, some parts of the movie were amazing, and then suddenly it was like they didn't bother trying. Almost like there were 2 directors who swapped with each other every 10 minutes. It's a good movie to sit and watch after you've turned your brain off, but if you go into with expectations of a good movie, you'll be disappointed.

Yeah, I just watched it yesterday & was completely let down, though the movie does give you the reason why.

I can't really say much more than you already have, though. Was a good movie, but it wasn't any better than 1 or 3, imo. Hell, it may not have even really surpassed 2, & I think the supporting cast is why. Depp, as you said, is his usual self, but even with Gibs & Barbosa, the rest of the cast doesn't really hold a candle to the others.

Other than that, I think they could have tied up the lovers' story better. Well, that & done more with the Spanish. The little twist finally gave some merit as to why the movie never really gave them any screen time, but you get the feeling their leader is some worthy enemy by the attitude he gives off throughout. So, I was a bit let down that they didn't do nearly anything near what I thought they would with him.

On a quick rant while I'm at it, this post-credit stuff has got to be done better. That was an incredibly awful scene to make you sit through 10 minutes of credits. You know what the director is trying to do, but when you stop & think about what she finds, do you really think Jack is going to be affected by it when you take into account that it could be a quick end if she really wanted to? I'd explain it better, but I don't want to give away anything more than I have. In short, the only real reason to sit through til' the post-credits scene is you want to see how sexy Cruz is one more time before you leave; that's it, imo.

Saw Fast 5 on saturday. Have to say it was one hell of an action flick. Easily one of the better movies I've seen in the last year or so.

Defending Your Life (Albert Brooks, 1991) -- A 40-something yuppie is killed in a car accident and goes to Judgment City, a waiting room for the afterlife. During the day, he must prove in a courtroom-style process that he successfully overcame his fears, and at night, he falls in love with Julia, the only other young person in town. In the daytime he faces all the reasons why his life may or may not have been good, but during the nights, he falls in love and starts regainign some faith in everything that is good about life. I'm sure the setting sounds very cheesy and it actually is, but even cheesier than that is the soundtrack, though it's a very 80s thing, to be honest. The thing about this movie is that it's not that it didn't try to be good and failed, it's that it was as good as it could be given the subject and the outcome. From a dystopic society point of view, it was funny enough, but overall, not a big deal. 6/10

I actually liked that one, but I watched it a looooooooooong time ago.

Very typically Hollywood, but it had its clever moments.

Stone (2010)

Edward Norton, Robert DeNiro, and Milla Jovovich star in this movie about a convicted arsonist who is looking to get out on parole. It is a character study involving the fundamental question, can people change? However, the movie builds a tension that is simply never released. The all-star cast cannot save this movie. 1/5 stars.

On a side note, my wife and have been arguing over fake nipples. She thinks Milla Jovovich and Naomi Watts put fake nipples over their real nipples for filming. I will admit, they do look rather odd but I always assumed they were real.

Yeah, I remember liking it too. But it's been at least 15 years since I've watched it.

I found a clever list called "Top 20 Dystopian Movies" or something like that and Defending was in it. I was expecting much more 'dystopianness' and I have to admit I saw it mainly because of that.

Up. Good movie. I waited for one of the boys to watch it with me. No go. I watched it alone, but still, it was a nice movie. 8.5 of 10

I decided a long time ago that Pixar makes cartoons for men, fathers in particular. If you look at it the majority of their main characters play a father-figure or male-leader style role. Kids are secondary characters to emphasize that role. There are a few exceptions to the rule, but those are made up for by the hero-worship worthy masculinity of John Wayne and Buzz Aldrin Woody and Buzz. When you have a cowboy and an astronaut as your two most popular, and trademark characters you might as well hang a "No girls allowed" sign out front.

Better yet, the issues to be dealt with are very adult issues. I mean, just look at Up. Dealing with getting old as a theme, in a kids movie? The first 5 minutes show this was meant for adults.

You know what, you are 100% correct.

Up -- Old man becomes father figure for the son he never had
Nemo -- Father searches for his lost son
Incredibles -- Father tries to find balance between fatherhood and being a super hero
Bugs Life -- A colony of ants run by women is saved by a male ant

Wall-E -- Ultimate bachelor pad. Knows enough to try to get the girl.
Monsters Inc. -- Two bachelors coming to terms with a child thrust upon them.
Cars -- His last name is McQueen for crying out loud! "We got cowboy, astronaut, working father, over-bearing father, and bachelors of various kinds, but something is missing. Oh, the ultimate car guy!"

Charlie and the Chocolate Factory (2005)

I'm a big fan of the original so I figured I would see the re-make, bad idea. Seems like the whole point of the story was to make Willy look as weird as possible, including the highly unnecessary back story they decided to throw in. Add on some horrendous CGI and some crappy acting(the kids were better actors than the "parents"). Also, what the hell did they do to the oompa loompa's, 1 actor plays all of them and their songs just plain suck? The only redeeming qualities about this movie are that it followed the original story for the most part and makes you remember the original and how good it was.2/10

Damn good movie. Rourke's performance was great. And is it me, or does Marisa Tomei look better with age? 9/10
Absolutely. Great movie. I love the Mike Tyson's Punch-out scene. Call it Dooty what?

I usually like all of Depp's movies but this one was horrible. They tried for quirky but it just didn't work. The squirrels were the only good part of the movie. The rest was pure garbage.

"How to Train your Dragon"....

God. This is actually a good film. Has most of the Disney stuff in it, but also has the realistic stuff in it.

I've had quite a lot of red wine so I am not in the best state to explain why....But seriously! How did this film not win awards?! Or become much more popular?! (Saw it on Sky Movies stuff....This deserves BlueRay and all awards!)

Fast Five

Based on the good words here I finally went and saw Fast Five. This is easily one of my favorite Movies (Top 20)Yes it did have the usual crap (Vin and Paul seem un die able Hollywood style )but surprisengly there was some pretty good acting (Vin in Particular)Paul walker was said by alot of reviewers that his acting was weak I certainly didn't think so.The old team being back was fantastic to see ,lead to alot of funny jokes and scenes. The Rock was a great addition and I join the fan club with the Vin Rock fight scene supporters :D.Some really creative scenes in the movie .
Negatives:
-Well Typical Americans ,they think the Ultimate fast agile car is a tweaked out Dodge Charger  and T-12 remark about the CCX was spot on (did they really had to add the 'R'.
-Another point was although there were some juicy cars on display the racing was almost a no go (aside from the drag race). Why did they cut the Charger Porsche race and the GTR-CHallenger one aswell :grumpy: 👎 .

All in all after that long post if you think the past 4 Movies were a piece of crap then seeing this movie will certainly leave you with a better taste in your mouth 8.7/10

Oh and thanks for the heads up guys on the scene after the credits (Wow what a turn of events really sets up the next one nicely)

More movies via Netflix. Here's what I've been watching...

Toy Story 3
Toy_Story_3_18.jpg

Well, little Andy has grown up. He's packing up to move away to college, and he's leaving his old neglected toy friends behind. Now, all his old toys face a new adventure when they are donated to a daycare center. All while Woody tries to get back to his beloved owner, Andy.

All in all, one of the best animated movies I've ever seen. It had heart, story, and terrific voice acting. It did get a bit dark at times, perhaps a bit too much for a "G" rated movie. But the ending was prefect. Almost brought a tear to my eye. It definitely didn't beat the original, but it sure came close
10/10

American Graffiti
americangraffiti.jpg

The year is 1962. Longtime friends and recent high school graduates meet at Mel's Drive-In in Modesto, California. Ahead of them is a night full of hot rodding, chasing women, and above all else having a good time.

This is one of the earliest George Lucas films, four years before Star Wars graced the silver screen. The film is a glamorized depiction of Lucas' high school years in Modesto. American Graffiti is also notable for pioneering the "Teen Film" genre. If you're a car guy, this movie is right up your alley. Tons of fantastic pre-1960's American cars driving around in this one.
7/10

The Boondock Saints
BOONDOCKRP.jpg

When two Irish brothers are praised and called heroes after killing a pair of Russian Mafia thugs in self defence, they decide to take it upon themselves to rid their home city of Boston of all criminals and evil doers. But FBI agent Paul Smecker is hot on their heels in the process.

Oh man, what can I say about this one? Probably the most fun I've had in a while that didn't involve a woman. Plenty of action and a pretty decent story. The movie does get a bit too ridiculous at times, but for the most part, it's just plain awesome.

I didn't like Toy Story 3. Not that much. It was dragging in parts, really dark and disturbing in others. While the arc of the main story and the ending were poignant and touching, you can do that in a children's movie (see "UP") without scaring children to death in the middle. Critics loved the movie. Kids... not so much. I think my daughter got bored to death halfway through because of all the talking, and the end was too scary for her. As a movie for adults, possibly an 8. As a movie for kids... somewhere between 6 and 7.

My wife and I didn't get this one at all. It was like watching a bizarre mix of Chaplin-esque comedy, World War II POW camp farce and Tales from the Darkside. With cute little toys... Toy Story 1 had a little of that darkness in there... but played for straight comedy. I think Toy Story 2 was the best of the entire series.

Because Toy Story 3's pandering to nostalgia and the Newberry-esque* maturity of the story impressed a lot of the Awards panels come voting time. Personally, I liked "HTTYD" better. It had just as much heart, and truly likeable characters... but that's a given, since it's the same crew that did "Lilo and Stitch"

*in other words... Death by Newberry Medal... almost. Not that HTTYD was totally immune...

Kung Fu Panda 2 was a pleasant surprise. In fact, I enjoyed it more than Kung Fu Panda 1. The characters have matured into their roles... there's a looser, more organic feel to the whole thing, and it flows pretty well.

As always, the action sequences are epic. And fun. And funny. I think the entire audience was chortling through most of the movie.

The design of the movie was absolutely epic. Down to every last detail. It's like an animated Lord of the Rings. Set in China. With animals. Lots of Orcs (Wolves), evil secret weapons, and a White Wizard... errh... Peacock... as Po's enemy. Don't worry, he's more threatening and villainous than it sounds...

For the downsides... if you don't like Jack Black, you don't like Jack Black... but he plays Po pretty straight. At least he doesn't sing. And the plot... you can see the ending coming from a mile away... but then, many of the good Kung Fu movies are pretty predictable, anyway. Also, not enough Jackie Chan... Van Damme's appearance garnered a chuckle from me... and Gary Oldman's take on the villain was great.

Gets a good 8/10 from me. With a better plot, maybe even 9 or 10 would be possible.

Watching one of two childhood movies that I DVR'd since they were in HD.

The Dark Crystal

Man this creeped me out as a kid. Labyrinth was the other movie.

LOL, both are on my wife's top 10 best movies of all time. I enjoyed both as a kid...but she watched them until the VHS stopped working.

Just saw "Army of Darkness" again on TV. Something seemed off. Halfway through, I realized the dialogue and some of the scenes were different... and the ending was completely different from what I remember from decades ago.

When I first watched it, I watched the US theatrical release. Turns out there are nearly a dozen different versions, and three different endings. Madness.

Now I'm thinking of buying one of the Special Edition DVDs just to see all of it...

Vantage Point .

I am not gonna even bother Posting a proper review I really disliked the film .Very Boring and predictable .

Did anybody actually Enjoy it ?
