Dragon Ball Z Super-Broly-

I was entertained. Haven't watched DBZ since the Dragon Ball series in the late 1980s(showing my age). I would get up early on Saturdays and just catch the end credits to DB and Robotech would come on next.

As I was told by friends, in the lead up to this movie, this movie is on another tangent, to the Broly stories in the series. The story is pretty simple for anyone to follow. THE battle had some stuff I've never seen in any clip of DB/DBZ. My friends that follow the series heavily, hadn't seen "this" in any battle either.

The levelling up is awesome, over the top, as to be expected. Comical parts were funny. I know I missed plenty inside jokes when the whole theatre was laughing but me. I did get one of the jokes in a flashback scene though.

I understand many animated movies are computer animated, but the characters still looked drawn. That's what I remember most about Dragon Ball. Again, that battle was crazy. No hand drawn animation there.

We stayed a bit during the post credits but not to the very end. So, don't know if there is anything extra.

I'll give it 10/10 as I wasn't, bored, movie length was just right and it was a straight forward "tale". :sly:

Exactly the same review,e xcept I grew up in the 90s and watched DBZ on the re-release after the fact. Then DB after that so it was weird but still a thing to watch in my formative years. I have since caught all the way up and finished Dragon Ball Super with the Japanese subtitles. This movie is the first new thing since the show ended and I can't wait for more.

If you thought this was cool you should check out the last two movies Battle Of The Gods and Resurrection F. There's also Dragon Ball Z Kai which is a retelling of DBZ but without the filler episodes, changes to the script and music, and of course better animation. It's a nice quick concise telling of DBZ but there's probably a funny video on YouTube that does a great job in an hour or so.

Robotech! That was my favorite series in my youth too. The Veritechs are still my favorite Mecha design ever. Macross sequels (except macross plus) where all too campy and it is sad the franchise lost its appeal. I was very excited when I heard there was a live-action adaption in production. Sadly in development hell, but my pick for Roy Fokker would be Matthew McConaughey.

Waiting for one of my friends to lend me the two movies to catch up. I did see a bit of a movie with the Cat and his sidekick. I think the Cat was giving them a chance to beat him or he'd destroy Earth.

Yeah, I followed to the point of the motorcycles and fell off after that.

Alita: Battle Angel. In short, I really enjoyed my two hours. The script/story is so fast and direct it's reminiscent of blunt force trauma. You've seen bits of this story elsewhere but it's well paced and executed.

I liked the design on the hero characters and mercenaries but a lot of the villains grunts have this human face stretched over exoskeleton look that really creeped me out. Hardly a bad thing..... The world of Iron City looks top notch and has a lot of different sections. Look at Troublemaker Studio's on Google maps. The set is gigantic!

The big eyes caught a lot of flack from some but I think they look great. In keeping with a manga style and with the incredible mo-cap work they really pull you in.

The effects work is incredible and left me salivating for the twelvety Avatar sequels that are coming.

I really enjoyed it. 4/5 (disclaimer: loads of people won't love it. But I'm not them!)

Fighting With My Family: A fantastic movie that highlights an incredible woman who ushered in an era of WWE that made the woman athletes taken more seriously and ultimately banished the "Diva" tag.

I am not a wrestling fan really but this had me engrossed. The comedy is sublime and the story is so fun and heart-warming from start to finish with just enough drama. Another film released last Friday that is championing International Woman's Day to get idiots angry/defend a perfectly average experience. Do yourself a favour by not missing this one - could be one of the best movies this year and starts a real-life "heroine". 9/10

Trying to ignore SJW's and anti-SJW's and the controversy surrounding this movie, I did watch Captain Marvel with great anticipation. As a note I want to mention I dislike aggressive SJW "feminists", but I even more dislike overly aggressive anti-SJW/feminists who criticize/troll every movie or celebrity for having even any mention of feminism.

Although there have been movies with badass female leads in the past, the recent surge of female led movies have not disappointed (with some exceptions). I really liked the movie and Brie Larson's performance. The middle act did have some pacing issues, but the last act more then made up for that. The script wasnt very spectecular, but did have some interesting twists. Overall I would rate the movie between 7.5/10. An 8 for me is a movie I immediately want to watch again and this movie did not do that for me. I was throroughly entertained and liked the choices the writing made to adapt this complicated character to the large screen.

Like me, try to ignore the controversy and watch the movie an you wont be disappointed.

Just watching “I Called Him Morgan”

Great documentary about a strange Jazz story.

Very interesting.

Green book. It's been a while since i've been to the theater. Nice movie
I watched Green Book last weekend and really enjoyed it, there was more humour than I expected but it was well done. The acting from Viggo was good and Mahershala was excellent as Dr Shirley.

Although it took my a while before i saw something else than aragorn driving around remi danton

Saw Baywatch on TV the other night, nowhere near as bad as people made it out to be. It's hard to come up with something when the source material is such erm, nonsense  . At times it felt like the show which is a good thing, then it would suddenly be nothing like it and turn into a budget F&F movie. I agree with the general consensus that it was a likeable cast with a bad plot. Sequel is being planned so maybe they can make it better this time around.

Just watched a movie called The Shipment (2001).

Never heard of it before, but Youtube recommended it to me for some reason. It was about mobsters attempting to smuggle a shipment of extra-strength Viagra-like pills across the southern U.S. border.

Terrible movie, but amusing in parts. 5/10.

Wayne. 10/10

About Moto GP rider Wayne Gardner(still alive). Telling his story, along with his ex-wife and his friends. Very interesting and I learned a lot.

Amazing to learn about what was happening, when I used to watch a few of those races with my brother. Especially stuff with Eddie Lawson.

Filmed very well. Vintage footage of his family, some anime reenactments and race footage, created awesome storytelling.

Earlier in the week AMC had a tribute to Bill Hickman, and showed the movies Bullitt, The French Connection, and The Seven-ups. Recorded them and watched them today.

Good movies, great car chases.

Triple Frontier - 6/10
This rating goes up if you want to watch a movie where you can switch your brain off. It's a pretty standard heist movie including one cliche guy that's a bit more greedy than the rest. Also bonus points for including two of the best Metallica songs: "For Whom the Bell Tolls" and "Orion".

Baby Driver - 8/10
Definitely worth seeing

Everest - 6.5-7/10
Based on a true story about a climbing expedition gone wrong. It's a solid movie, but nothing spectacular. I recently watched two climbing movies, Meru and The Dawn Wall, that I enjoyed more than this.

Blackkklansman - 7.5-8/10
Also based on a true story. Great movie with some light humor dropped in. Eric Forman stars as the grand wizard of the KKK. It provides commentary about some current events.

Pitch Black - 7/10

John Wick Chapter 3 was pretty good. Here's how I described it to my friends: "It's a dog movie with some dancing in the form of fighting".

I also liked John Wick 3, but immediately after leaving the cinema I thought it was the worst one. I've since had some time to reflect on it and I actually really enjoyed it, looking forward to seeing it again. It's basically "Carefully Choreographed Ultraviolence as Catharsis: The Movie" - and it violent. But also funny and entertaining.

Halle Berry is hot. Like far more so than everyone thought back in the day before her career tanked (thanks a lot, Swordfish). She's 52! Mad. Spoilered just in case people don't know she's in it.

Godzilla II.

This is a bit tough. I think it would be better with no dialogue at all. Seriously. NO voices from the actors. Maybe not even subtitles. A couple lines were thrown in and it was just, bad. Watch the first and second back to back, makes one think, " Are these the same dimension?*

The Movie 2012 got nothing on GII. You want stuff destroyed? Check. You want grand scale stuff? Check.

Well, obvious is obvious with all the King Kong references and video. However, can't see Kong going blow for blow with Godzilla. Nope.
Nice to hear the names of monsters/"titans" from the old movies. Made me smile.

Three Wise Cousins. 8/10

A spoiled(lazy) young man visits his two cousins to become an island man.

Well done with the acting from the two cousins. Funny old school message movie.

....I finally got around to watching both Aquaman and Captain Marvel. Both of them were.... 'meh'.

Trying to avoid spoilers for both films were really hard, let me tell you, but I don't think my efforts were worth it. Aquaman had one of the most cringe-ist dialogues I've heard this year. It felt like a disjointed collection of admittedly-pretty set pieces, but that was about it.

As for Captain Marvel, the best I could say about it was 'forgettable'. Other than the 'cat', I don't remember much about it, even though I watched it only a few hours ago.

What a disappointment, both of them. Now, onto Shazam. I hope it's as funny as everyone (on Internet!!) has said it was.

@JKgo - I agree the writing for Aquaman could have used some help but overall I was at least entertained.

As for Captain Marvel, it was completely forgettable. Like all movies I take the time to watch, I like to go into them blind and want to like them, but this one never made it there. Even all the hyphenated names were driving me crazy.

In a style very similar to Asif Kapadia's 2010 film Senna, the story of NASA's most celebrated mission is told using digitally remastered archive material, including previously unseen 70mm film. Even the instruments used to create the soundtrack, and the Universal Pictures logo at the start of the film are from the period.

If you know of or about the mission, you know the outcome, but that doesn't deter from the experience of seeing the journey unfold on the big screen (especially in this much detail: the clarity is superb!). Because the story is told in period via only the archive material, the sequences that lead to the achievement of mankind's arguably greatest feat of engineering and human endeavour, play out in a way that makes you feel like you're there in July 1969 amongst the millions who saw it happen in person, or alongside those who played their roles in history on, and off the planet. The tension that builds in the countdown to launch for example, feels genuine to the point that even knowing what happens when the clock hits zero doesn't matter.

If you have even the remotest interest in space exploration, this is a pretty good place to further expand that intrigue.

Vice

Saw it was on the Hulu plan I have (the cheap Spotify/Hulu/Showtime student deal) and I wanted to see it when it originally came out. I found it interesting the way it was laid out, including the narrator and his "story", and it did a good job of piling on events one after the other throughout his career as a politician. Not a fan though of one part in the film where it puts him in a bad light purposely, but I didn't make the movie so I don't make the decisions. I'm just not a fan of films that revolve around the life of an individual (especially public officials) in which they make money off of what they personally decided to do. Blame their decisions and logic for what they are, not for what others make them out to be.

Super 8

I really enjoyed it and I really liked the time period it was in. 8/10

My family is from where much of the filming took place (Weirton, WV) and about 10 years ago it still looked the same... Much of it now since I've last visited (2 years ago since my grandfather passed, who worked in one of the various steel mills along the river where the movie begins) has been torn down, scrapped and completely removed. In the 50-70's the area was great, but from the 80-early 2000's it suffered big time. Soon it's going to be a ghost-town...

....I went to watch Gemini Man starring Will Smith. Before that I had a pleasure of seeing Ford V Ferrari (aka Le Mans 66 in some other territories).

While I definitely recommend the latter to anyone remotely interested in watching a well-constructed good film, the former....

Gee whiz, what happened to Ang Lee? One of the most decorated and recognised film director of what, last 20 or so years churning out crap like this?
For the lack of better word, it's bad. Not as in, so-bad-it's-kinda-enjoyable bad, but I-want-my-wasted-time-back-Hollywood type bad.
Acting is suspect at best, cinematography is wonky and set pieces wildly stagger between semi-engaging to "get a new second unit director, you pillocks". What's worse, the plot is egregiously dumb as well, not helped along by pretty abysmal script and flat line deliveries.

I've heard that the film was shot in 120 fps and that's supposed to be distracting, but hell, that was the least of its problems in my book.

Do. Not. Watch. Gemini. Man.

I watched Midway, it is a very good and underrated war movie and it's
Pearl Harbor and Tokyo raid
scenes are better than all of the Pearl Harbor movie by far!
