*Facepalm*

Well, that'll teach me to moderate late at night.

Banhammer on standby, though..... Just in case...

;)

Right now I am watching Heartbreak Pass (1975 Charles Bronson), enjoying it so far.

Once Upon A Time In Mexico (2003) -- Haven't seen either El Mariachi or Desperado, but I thought this one was very good. Some pretty cool as well as hillarous moments in there. 8.5/10

Planet Terror (2007) -- Not as good as Death Proof IMO but still pretty cool. 7/10

Jackie Brown (1997) -- Wow, this one was bad. Nothing happened, and I'm actualy amazed I stayed awake the whole movie. Of course since it is a Tarantino movie it has a good script, great actors/actresses and some funny moments. But what does that help when the movie is 2 and 1/2 hours and nothing happens. 4.5/10

Heh, the same bad movie three times in a row?

I love Jackie Brown. Probably more than Kill Bill, or Death Proof.

I saw Quarantine. Just in case you don't know, it's kind of a Cloverfield-Blair Witch-28 Days Later(don't get offended, I'm just sayin'....) hybrid. I didn't know this, but I guess it's an Hollywood version of a Spanish horror flick called "[REC]"(like the flashing "REC" on camcorders).

I went to this thing with few of my friends, and I was the only one who thought it was OK. It was to be expected. :P While the premise of the film is kind of unique, it is filled with same old pattern of characters doing everything they shouldn't do, and not doing any of the things they should be doing.

The entire movie is filmed on the shaky TV reporter camera, so if you had problem with Cloverfield or Blair Witch, this could be headache & nausea inducing for you. Some of the parts were actually quite funny, gores are very brutal. Plot is full of holes, but if you are the type who enjoys turning the brain off to see some zombie flicks, you should like it. Maybe as long as you aren't paying the full price of the admission. :D "C-"

And some DVDs I saw over the weekend:

Under Siege - I had to watch it, don't know why, so please don't ask. Younger, skinnier Steven Seagal was kind of cool to watch. I forgot Tommy Lee Jones was in it, so that was bonus. It is what it is, so I'll give it a...... "C"?

Sleepy Hollow - My favorite Tim Burton film. I actually got bored towards the end, with this being like the fourth, fifth time seeing this film. In this one, I forgot that Christopher Walken was in it. Bonus. 👍 "A"

Stardust - Kind of weird DVD to buy, but I bought it as part of one of those 3 used DVDs for whatever $$$ deal, and I finally watched it yesterday.

This fairytale flick is pretty Hollywood mainstream, but it has a flavor of Terry Gilliam-type films. Special effects are pretty decent, cast is pretty decent, too. De Niro, Michelle Pfeiffer, Clair Danes. I think I saw the main dude from the Office, too(the UK one). The film tries to be an epic, but everything is just OK. I may have bought this one, because I guess it was directed by the director of L4YER CAKE. It's not as good.

I wouldn't say avoid, but I wouldn't exactly recommend renting it either. "C+"

War Inc.

What a terrible movie, one of the worst movies I've ever seen. They attempted to mix a comedy with an action movie. They would go from a scene with a gory bloody assassination, to a scene with something funny in it over and over again. FAIL. EPIC FAIL.

I've been planning on renting this one. Thanks for the heads up. I'll set the bar very low.

Set the bar lower than you've ever set it before, and make sure to pick something else up along the way so you won't be wasting gas simply for that.

Juno

Actually wanted to watch this because of the actress playing the lead role, but really enjoyed it.
I did find the way Juno talked was overexaggerated, but it didn't ruin the movie. + I have a bit of a soft spot for chick flicks, don't kill me :D
7,5/10

Iron Man

Over the top action with tons of special effects.
The only downside of this movie is that it was over too quickly :)
8,5/10

Zack & Miri Make A Porno - 9/10

Story was a bit weak, but god, was it funny. Seth was hilarous as well as Banks. A LOT of hilarious scenes. Kevin Smith has done another fantastic job. 👍

Justin Long's scene though, was brilliant.

Green Street Hooligans (2005) -- Nice way to bounce back from LOTR for Elijah Wood. Good, solid performance and the movie itself is pretty much okay. A bit overdramatic on the take to hooliganism, but I liked it, at least. 7.5/10

Rescue Dawn (2006) -- Maybe it was the low budget and lack of major stars, or if not, the weak story, but although good, it's not great. Christian Bale's acting is below average, though you can see he got the start for The Machinist weight loss. 7/10

Freeway (1996) -- A twisted take on the Little Red Riding Hood, which is very dark and very grotesque. Could've been better, but at least it was original... sorta. 7/10

Mallrats (1995) -- After Clerks and Clerks II, I think this is the best Kevin Smith flick, though I haven't seen Chasing Amy yet. Oh and the college I went to is mentioned... Go Canisius! 8.5/10

Dogma (1999) -- Further proof that Kevin Smith should stick to existential F-word-a-thons about how life sucks and everyone's an a-hole. This one wasn't really bad, but it was too much antasy after a while. 6.5/10

Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back (2001) -- Quite good, although too Scary Movie-ish after a while (as in paroding too many movies), though the Kevin Smith trademark mentioned above is still there. 7.5/10

Last movie i saw in the theaters was The Dark Knight, and as far as movie not in theaters, Im currently watching Die Another Day and just finished The Notebook

In Bruges 8.5/10

Assasins, Midgets and weird Belgian-ness - what more could you want from a film?

I never really fancied this, probably put-off by the Colin Farrell factor, but ended up watching it anyway. Glad i did. The acting was really good, even by Colin Farrell but especially by Brendan Gleeson and Ralph Fiennes. It's a pretty violent film in places but very darkly amusing as well.

👍 👍

I just watched In Bruges tonight and I really liked it. Great film.

When he first started going on about the midgets, I nearly fell out of my chair laughing!

I also liked how he kept going on about how Bruges is a **** hole and how it must be hell.

Forbidden Kingdom

7.5/10
Though it seems like a new Gen old school kung-fu flims to me. I was kind of disapointed to the fact that Jet Li is quitting the Wushu type movies. But its good that he collab with Jackie Chan on this one.The movie went to fast for me.Like Mario, guy goes out of tube, runs alot and jumps on monsters, then goes back into the tube to end up in another level to do some more running and going back into another tube.

Lets see......

The Incredible Hulk - This is the one with Edward Norton. And just to get it out of the way, I am not familiar with the original comic. ;)

I had no interest in the Hulk character, but with Edward Norton in it, it gotta be good, right? Kind of. I did actually like this one, unlike the one they released few years ago with that Bana guy, I think directed by Ang Lee. Overall action was good, but I didn't like parts of the movie where "Hulk" came into the scene, so it was kind of pointless for me. It was OK at best for me. "C"

Journey to the Center of the Earth - The huge problem was that nobody told me that this movie was: 1) 3D movie 2) Kids film :ouch:

Live & 3D shot version of Saturday cartoon, this flick. "D", even taking that into account.

Get Smart
- OK rental. There were 2, 3 parts that were very, very funny. I thought the film could've been a lot better with a lot more of Rock(the former wrester). Unfortunately, the plot was one of those plots that you just can not believe that someone was actually paid to write it. "C+" for the comedy.

Transsiberian
- A thriller involving cross continental railway, I had to check it out, and it certainly did not disappoint.

The film follows an American woman, who gets separated from her husband while on a Trans Siberian railway trip. Mysterious couple, the locals, Russian cops, murder, drug smuggling, it turns into quite an adventure. The film's kind of like Narrow Margin meets Hostel. I kind of liked the weird balance of this movie, too. It was too brutal, compared to typical drama-thriller, but much too slow to be an horror/action flick. Highly recommended for older viewers, I can't see it being a much of hit with the younger audience. "A-", but it could have gone much higher, if it was just a tad more realistic. Boy, it was so good!

Doomsday 6/10

Again, something i only ended up watching due to my better half wanting to see it. It started off quite promising, putting a large heavily guarded wall around Scotland to keep them all in, but got quite silly towards the end. The story is an odd mix of 28 Days Later, Mad Max 3, Aliens and even a touch of Gladiator - but it actually works quite well in the most part. Not a must-see film but quite entertaining.

The Big Lebowski - After seeing Burn after Reading we thought we'd give it a go. It was the same Coen brothers style plot, completely up in the air, but this was far harder to follow. To the point it was just annoying. We laughed a few times but not all that great. 6/10

The Incredible Hulk's biggest problem was it required you to be a fan of the comics to get all you can out of it. As a stand-alone movie, you are correct in giving it a C.

Now, from a comic geek's (read: my) perspective it was all kinds of crazy goodness. The Incredible Hulk did with movies what Marvel has done to comics for years, made it all connect into one giant universe. We saw Tony Stark's (Iron Man) weapons, we saw the Super Soldier Serum (Captain America) used and in action, and we saw S.H.I.E.L.D. initiatives starting to go into effect. Putting it all together with the story from Iron Man and what I know of the stories to come I had this comic fanboy glee because I got to see the world I grew up in, known as the Marvel Universe, in my childhood imagination come to life before me. It was enough for me to buy it on Blu-Ray.

And on top of all that, the Hulk acted like the Hulk in the comics. Yes, he was the personification of uncontrollable rage, but he wasn't just a mindless lump. He had some control. Oh, and he said Hulk Smash!!!

Wristcutters: A Love Story (2006) -- As far as weird plots go, this one almost takes the cake. The movie is set in a sort of non-religious purgatory, where all suicides go to. Everyone who lives in this "country" has killed himself and among other things, isn't able to smile. The country is ruled by quasi-angels and no one can kill each other, because (you guessed it) they're already dead. Now, in this setting, a love story ensues.

The romantic part of it is predictable enough, though it has a lot of funny parts. Acting is okay and budget is what you'd expect from a completely independent movie with a few cameos and lesser-known actors. All in all, a good surprise I wasn't expecting. 7.9/10

That is very cool. As a complete ignorant to Marvel Comics, Stark thing was the only thing I noiticed. I think I got shortchanged.

Diego - I remember reading about that flick somewhere. I hope to find it on rental in the near future. 👍

grandtheftparsons.jpg

Grand Theft Parsons: Based on a true story about a country-rock singer Gram Parsons who died and the agreement that he had with his road manager. I watched it last night with my dad, it was funny enough to make him laugh, and that is not easy. I liked it a lot too. 8.5/10

AVPR: Alien vs. Predator - Requiem (2007)

I've always been a fan of the Alien franchise. Alien was a good movie, Aliens was awesome, Alien3 wasn't too bad, and Alien Resurrection was bleh. Predator was another action flick, and Predator 2 was another big bleh. So why mix them? The first one was horrible, and this one isn't much different, except maybe more absurd. The effects aren't even what you'd hope for... and nevermind... the review is too long for such a crap movie. 4/10

So why mix them?
Because it worked out awesomely in the comics/books.

Of course, it was a continuation of the story long after the Aliens had come to Earth and were running amok.

They did make several novels and graphic novels about it.

In capable hands, AVP could've possibly have been one of the most exciting movie ever. I waited for years for the first one to come out. It was a rude surprise, very big letdown.

Dr. Goldfoot and the Girl Bombs - 1966 Staring Vincent Price, Fabian, Franco & Ciccio. A mid-60's version of the Austin Powers movies.

Plot: A mad scientist, who wears gold slippers, uses girl robot bombs to kill UN generals in order to steal a hydrogen bomb that will be used to start a war between US and Russia so he, and the Chinese who support him, can rule the world.

Not very funny, or entertaining. As usual, Vincent Price has his cheeky one liners and simple humor that amounted to his usual performance. Everybody else were crap. Funniest line was when VP (Dr. Goldfoot) introduces, "AC, DC." when trying to fry a super computer. 3.5/10
