What Phone Do You Have?

The last 5 phones or so I had were all Xperias, z1 compact being my fav - I'm listening to lots of music and stuff (videos) and it worked absolutely seamless on that. But battery is old, I already bought a new 1 but I'm kinda reluctant to change it, especially because I think I'll lose a lot of stuff like notes and unsent sms which never gets transfered when I try backup function doesn't work either, it just hangs there indefinitely.

I transferred most stuff with Xperia transfer to my new phone, an Xperia z3 compact, but the time-lines and everything like playlists are messed up.

Kinda love the UI design of the z3 though so there's that. :)

Sony keep their Andriod pretty stock right? I'm thinking of going Xperia when it's time for an upgrade because I am fed up of these horrid Andriod customisation jobs everyone seems to be doing.

Also how is the audio on their phones? I would assume the DAC's they use are pretty good considering it's Sony's forte.

Yeah, it's almost stock, there are some apps like psn account management, "What's new" and a few others you can't delete though, but disabling them works.
As for audio, yes it's good, but on this z3 compact something is messed up, like when I switch between music or video apps it stutters which is quite annoying, but I don't know if it's the phone or the android version - I've read newer androids have issues with this, but I'm not sure tbh.
Worked absolutely flawless on the z1 is all I know for sure.

This is the stuff I've turned off it looks worse than it really is lol, but you see some things are Sony stuff. Btw using DS controllers is super easy, just plug and play.

Just as some of you may know.
Android Oreo will be hitting devices today. (Well Google devices)

The Android is pretty much stock yes, but for the Audio it is phone dependent. So see individual reviews.

Update on my part: it has been a few days with my Xperia X and I'm pleasantly surprised by the day to day performance so far. Very smooth and no hickups with multi tasking. Happy camper so far.

I'm seeking advice. I'm 68 and never had a smartphone. I've inherited some money and now I can probably afford pretty much any of them. So what should I do?

I'm concerned about the following:
- Training, learning to use the thing. I think I want one that comes with easy to understand instructions and/or a course of instruction.
- My fingers are no longer nimble so maybe I need one designed for elderly or fat-fingered people.
- Coverage. I have a remote fishing cabin and I think Verizon has the best coverage of the area. But does the phone matter, too?

Any advice about the above or other issues such as durability, reliability, safety and security would sincerely appreciated.
Thanks! :D

Ain't no such animal, I'm afraid. There's hardly a shred of documentation on anything. It's "push the button and see what happens" for the most part.

Get the largest you can that will fit in your pocket. I'd look for a five inch screen, minimum.

Can't help you too much on that, except to say I'd go with a name brand (Samsung, Nexus, Motorola etc) rather than a cheap brand you never heard of.

See above. If you're so inclined Apple hardware is quite good, if you don't mind getting locked into their ecosystem.

I used to have a Huawei Ascend G7 phone before I lost it at college rip. But now I'm stuck with my MyPhone Rio Fun 3G which is a huge downgrade from my previous phone.

I oddly didn't want to make a new thread for this but I am in the market for a new phone. ( Windows support just purely blows and its hardly going anywhere) Has anyone heard the bad things about the Moto Z play?

Camera is a bit weak and processor and speakers is not that strong. Z2 Play should have better camera, Moto X4 should have both better camera and processor. Asus Zenfone 4 (With the Snapdragon 630 SoC) is a good alternative.

Two months ago I sold my Lenovo Vibe K5 Plus (2GB RAM, 16GB variant) and got my self the Moto G5. I still wonder how "the same company" can make completely different phones on the same price range. The G5 kills in every aspect the Vibe K5, it's not even funny.

LG G6. Had it almost 2 months now but I really wish I could have waited on the V30. Had no choice because my LG G4 had just about kicked the bucket and I didn't trust it anymore.

No idea at this point, but am replacing my current one. Two falls from my jacket pocket in two days and the end result is the largest unbroken part of the screen is about the size of my thumb from the fingernail tip to where it meets up with the rest of my hand. Currently looking around the $50 range.

The K6 is the equivalent of the Moto G5 and seems to be as good if not better in nearly all aspects. Lenovo phones tend to have weak cameras though, the P2 (Battery beast) and ZUK Z2 are great value phones by Lenovo.

I've currently got a LG G5, hoped LG would keep IR blaster and 16:9 screen options with newer chipset as upgrade path, annoying that the Q8 doesn't have an 835 in it at least. Otherwise, I would have upgraded to that. Now I'm thinking of getting a Xperia XZ1. Anyway exciting times I think for computing hardware, who knows what the next 10 years bring, might be as good as affordable computing ever gets. Looking forward to the 7nm SoCs which are not too long away now, hopefully most top smartphones end of next year have them. Should allow for bigger batteries, faster processing and lower power consumption in the same form factors.

Moto E4 ($39.88?) seems really good for the money: Link

I don't know, the bad experience on the K5 doesn't help.

On Motorola Android phones, I owned the Razr D1 and my father had for 3 years a Moto G 1st gen and both of those cell phones never had any problem. Me and my mother gave my father a G5 back in May and his experience with it is what sold me into getting one as well.

iPhone SE. I am probably going to go look at one of the older Samsungs when my contract is up. Either that or go back to a generic Android phone and buy the cards to load onto it.

Depends on what Google has announcement of the Pixel 2's
Might trade in my Pixel at 350$ for a Pixel 2.

Edit:
I have ordered my pixel 2 and trading in my pixel.

Also the first Samsung battery has exploded... Samsung said it was an unapproved battery.
Man says it's a legit battery.

Edit 2:
Pixel 2 in my hands and loving it so far. Still working out the bugs and transferring over.

I have a Motorola G4, I do not wish this phone even upon my worse enemy. Its great all and besides for its huge flaw, the phantom touch. My screen goes crazy on its own pressing on stuff and doesn't register touch right sometimes which can make unlocking the phone difficult. The only way to fix it is to repeatedly turn off and on the screen. This isn't just a isolated issue, it happens to other owners too. I had it for a bit over a year and I'm already itching to replace it. /rant

There's a reason why you've never heard of it  T-Mobile intentionally kept the inventory on this phone super low because it was the best smartphone for under $200 2 years ago or so.

Google Pixel XL. I rather like it, the only thing that pisses me off is the headphone jack being at the the top instead of the bottom unlike my old HTC One M8 and the Galaxy S6 I had.

Still wish I had the old speakers from my HTC, those things were literal boomboxes. Best speakers on a phone ever.

I have the iPhone SE. I like it. I will not be buying the iPhone 8 or iPhone X when my contract is up. I am most likely going to go look at a Samsung. The Galaxy S8 can pretty much do what the iPhone X can for ~$250 less. Does anyone know if the Samsungs still allow expandable storage with a microSD card? Removing the headphone jack is also not a big deal to me since I have a separate music player anyway.

Yes it does.

Theoretically up to 1-2 TB, but up to 256 GB as standard as of today.

I just got a dirt cheap Galaxy S7 Edge. Was in perfect condition and the person selling it only wanted £200. I got some big numbers in geekbench 4, was 1940 single core and 5607 multi core!

Sony Xperia XZ Premium. I was looking at getting a One+ 5, but my knowledge of previous Sonys (I've had a Xperia Z and Z3 in the past) and the fact that only O2 has the phone on their books sealed my choice - I get 20% off my monthly bill through work as an employee perk.

Pixel 2.
Had it for about two weeks now and it's meeting all my expectations no problems. Battery life blows my old S6 Edge out the water.

I've had the Moto G5 Plus now for a few months. So far it's been pretty good. Battery life is excellent. I was having second thoughts due to the G5s Plus++++ coming out, but it's not a significant upgrade to me. I don't care about the all metal case since I put a case over the phone anyway. The dual camera thing isn't as good as I was expecting. In some cases the G5 camera looks better to me.
