What truly new features does GT6 bring to the series?

I recently wrote a 5 page paper arguing why Gran Turismo 3 was in fact the best in the series. It was a hard sell seeing as it did not actually introduce anything new to the franchise aside from wet asphalt and Racing wheel suport. I tried to focus on the quality the seemingly small content had. This made me realize that two four and five added many new features. Six on the other hand seems to branch out on features introduced in five, for example better physics , more cars, more photo mode locations, updated course maker, more A-spec events , improved online etc.. This begs me to ask the question. What truly new features does GT6 have..
Edit*
New: cars, a spec events , special events and tracks don't count..
Seeing as GT6 seems to parallel GT3.. it may be a good thing the series has time to catch up to itself ( features) before moving on!

Competition is introducing drivatars... I dont think PD is doing anything new. They still have alot of catching up to do

Hopefully it will bring a good leader board system and options for setting up online championships.

Well it will definately feature more cars and tracks, especially through patch updates and DLC. That is what is important.
Modern day cars and tracks, keeping up with the moving forward world.

I don't think GT6 will bring anything truly new or world-shattering to the table (I look at something truly new as something that hasn't been done before in any game, not so much the GT series) , and in my opinion, that's also not the most important thing. The most important thing is that PD gets this 'grand idea' of what they want GT to become in focus. I just know there is a bigger plan for the franchise, just look at all the different ideas implemented in GT5. The Karting, Nascar and WRC all pointed towards a bigger, grander type of career mode, as do the many new and important tracks that get introduced at a pretty fast rate. Look at the implementation of GT3 cars in the new game, the increasing focus on different aspects of car culture (SEMA, GT Academy, Top Gear (dropped but still...) Goodwood, Vision GT), collaboration with different manufacturers, the insane number of cars, the details of some cars...all point to something big, something great, something enormous that could await us, waiting to come out of the shadow to tell the world why we loved GT in the first place.

The problem is, that 'grand idea', that ambition, still seems unfocused. Like they had an idea of where they wanted to go but not a definite plan on how to do it. A very strange decision, almost downright incomprehensible given Kaz's focus on perfectionism and his indefinite love of everything involving cars, but nonetheless irreversible and GT6 still has signs of that mistake. A mistake I truly believe will be fixed, but a mistake that's been made nonetheless.

And yet, people make mistakes. Even Kaz. I'm a very forgiving person, and I still believe in the GT franchise, and I always will.

GT6 has the collaboration with the Ayrton Senna Foundation which might bring something new. Interlagos or a couple of real life Karts and Kart tracks.

That pretty much sums it all up for any debate. They try (PD) to get soo close to reality, but they lose focus on their way to it. Take this in for instances:

When they introduced the R18 into the game, they would have an excellent opportunity to introduce the R18 E-tron, and try to create the exact demonstration of the regenerative power systems it holds and put it into drive. Surely, FM5 will capitalize on this, or otherwise just make it garbage, what ever path it goes I'd be really interested into hearing about it.

But anyways... If they are to include the E-tron, I really hope they talk to the Audi Engineers, and the Williams engineers, who make the flywheels that capture the braking frictional energy. Here, is where a video game can "go green." By introducing all these eco-technologies, wouldn't ya think that media would get a grip of somthing like this. I am now seemingly starting to lose track of my topic, so if you understand stay with me. But here we have the Tesla model S. And we know PD and Kaz both like Chevrolet. And we all know that Nissan like the GT series... So why not capitalize on this by the model S, the volt (still questioning whether they make that or not anymore), and the leaf...

but most importantly, the Nissan ZEOD. This thing will be huge. I feel like PD did not help endorse the delta-wing enough in 2012 when it went to Le Mans. People were new to this bat looking thing, and most were concentrated on the toyota and audi battle. And there, i introduce the fifth company, toyota. Will the TS030 be in-game? we dont know that yet. Should it? yes. Why? it showcases the furthering of the electric car battle between companies, which almost all cars have some sort of racing heritage to them. Now the Leaf, maybe not so much, but they still make up for it.

All Im saying is that if PD want to get closer to reality, theyre going to have to look at these market trends and pick em up and fly with them. Remeber when carbon fiber first came out? no.. you dont, because no one supported the idea that we are going to make cars out of plastic. And then all of a sudden research was done and boom, its on every single high end racer or production car somewhere.
Remeber when electric cars came out? a little, but not enough to influence your opinion... Where am i going with this? It's public knowledge and interest that influences products nowadays. If you dont have their support, you will hopelessly fail.

And that's just one thing PD needs to work on... I dont even wanna talk about sounds

How bad is it that nobody can really answer this with a month to go before release?

It so bad that almost nobody bothered to actually read or understand the OP and are mentioning stuff that the OP already suggested as branching out on stuff from GT5 like cars, course maker etc.;)

👍 True but I think that's the way everything is going now. COD only just released details and a trailer of extinction mode and the game will be out in a scant 5 DAYS...

Indeed, not to mention would you Adam and Eve it, we know next to nothing about the new course maker except it's ever shrinking size. How it actually works is still a mystery.

Plus tyre and suspension tie ups aren't new features. Then you have stuff like this:

It adds community features.

Which whilst it's true we know next to nothing about any of them.

Aside from content i.e. cars/tracks, the truth is there's a lot we don't know from a gameplay aspect, so we'll just have to wait and see.

GT6 doesn't have to do anything new necessarily, it should focus on improving the things that were present in GT5.

Exactly.

I was wondering the same exact question, and like this thread, there isn't much to answer. GT6 is basically just a "more complete" version of GT5. GT6 is what GT5 should have been. GT5 was more of an unfinished beta that has taken several years to fix. *Cough* standards. So I wouldn't expect a lot of new features. Just a more complete GT5. IMO.

I still haven't decided if I am buying this yet. Probably rent since the game doesn't seem to be much different than GT5. However I do feel GT6 is going to be a lot better than GT5 since it will be a more complete game. And it will probably be the very last PS3 game I purchase. Since I have no interest in the PS4.

I think GT5 had the most features in any racing game, but PD didnt use the potential there. If they can use those in GT6 correctly, it doesnt need lots of new features.

Improving the mess that was the last game is PD's main focus this time around. There are various new technical nooks like the tesselation, the improved machine dynamics, an actual tyre model and the lighting system. There is a rumored K&W suspension testing post thing but this hasn't been confirmed by Kaz. They are also supposedly expanding upon the online features in GT5, adding new options and such for a better online experience. They might also be throwing in varying temperature values for the courses, this will affect tyre performance if they fully flesh this feature out. This was also present in GT5 but to a lesser extent.

The game is mostly building upon GT5.

Which whilst it's true is not a criteria in this thread.

Maybe not, but other than new maps, how do we even know if the Course Making engine itself is changed at all? And if it's not, then it's not really a new feature, just the same old feature with new maps.

So yeah, to define if something is "truly new" we need to know something about it, or it's just shooting arrows in the dark.

Will GT6 bring anything new? Really? Undoubtedly. Does it matter? No. Metaphorically speaking, I've finished book 5 of the Gran Turismo series and am ready to open Book 6. Will the same characters be in 6 that were in 5? Yes. Will there be new characters in 6, that weren't in 5? Yes. Will the characters be carrying on the fight against the evil forces, called Friction and Centrifugal Force? Certainly. Will they be doing it very differently? Perhaps, perhaps not. Open the book, turn the page. When you get to the end, if you like it, keep it, read it again, if not, give it to the library and someone else can check it out.

Dude, you should write the script for the Gran Turismo movie!

Like BBang, I really don't care about new features. A totally consistent and polished GT5 with a good A-Spec mode would more than suffice for me.
