What would you do with $30k?

A new car, my first (real) rig or maybe the payout on a house... $30000 USD is a lot in DKK (+170000 to be more specific).

Pay school bills and invest the rest.

Perhaps purchase a couple of keyboards as well.

Yeah I forgot about this. I'd definitely be getting a Model M, something with MX Brown switches, something with MX Red switches, and a Topre. Probably would get a Das Keyboard with blank MX Blue switches as well.

I'd buy turtles, lots of turtles. I would train them for days on end. Making them drag more and more weight. Then I would start a turtle racing league and charge $5 entrance fee. I would also take 10% of all gambling wins to allow hidden underground turtle racing gambling to go on. I would make millions. MUHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAAAAA.

You only need at most $5k for an emergency fund. Invest in the rest, overtime the money will just build of interest.

Pay back my loans, then loan the rest out to my fam. Half their interest payments since I'm a kind lender. That would give me an income to live on at med school.

Start a small race team. $30k is barely enough for even the smallest championships.

You may want to consider that IRN-BRU isn't as easy to get here. :(

Ha. Irn bru is impossible to get in Japan. I drank the last can my mum sent over a while ago and I truly believe that it was the last can in the country. The Canadian supermarket "Metro" does sell irn bru. It's a bit pricey but worth it.

We would use (probably) half on our mortgage and do a mortgage modifications. We would use some of it for home improvement, some of it for investment.

I'd have to feed my new addiction. I would support my local record store (Rumor Has It in Niles, Michigan) and go on a $2000 vinyl shopping spree!!!

I was just thinking today, that for that amount of money I could by a small, used mini-bus, kit it out with a small kitchen and bed area and tour the whole of Asia with my wife for a year.

:D That would be cool. 👍

Firstly I'd think 'what's the exchange rate?'. Then I'd go on a week long booze, women and partying frenzy.

The rest I'd just fritter away. :D

Sensible answer. Build and set up a Lotus or Porsche 968 CS for track days/sprints. That's my plan anyway, it would just bring it forward a bit.

I'd almost say save it up and all that, but I think we'd blow it on that trip to Japan we keep talking about.

-Lifetime GTP Premium
-A car, specifically a 90s MX-5 (I don't have to worry about the gasoline expenses)
-PSN plus
-PS3 games (obviously)
-Build a PC with proper specs
-PC games

And that is all and considering what games I would like to buy, it'll be roughly $4000

And I would save the rest in my bank account

I would blow the whole lot on a holiday for my family and myself.

Cheers Shaun.

If I was already earning a regular income, I'd probably put it on a deposit for a house, a maybe leave a little for my hobbies.

Buy a ticket for Shem's Rockin' Asia Tour 2013.

On the other hand i would probably buy a new computer and the rest i would invest or save for something bigger.

Holy 🤬 Shem, that's brilliant! Just add an amazing sound system and invite GTP members :dopey:

"Shem's Rockin' Asia Tour 2013"

I wouldn't need a sound system. My navigator on my real life China motorcycle tour has the English name Slash. He has that name for a reason. I'd just bring him and his guitar.

I'd try to visit a few GTP members in the Asia and Australasia areas but I doubt it'd be very convenient for more than 4 people living together for a year.

Well...OK. Fine. You guys can each get a 50cc moped to tag along on and a space on the roof rack for your luggage for a price of US$1000 but I'm only acting as a support bus. The bed and kitchen are for me, my lady and my cabin crew!!!! :D

and my cabin crew!!!! :D

Talking of which do you have any jobs going?

That would be great. Although I am not sure I would like to do huge road trips but I would love to tour Asia.

Anyway my 30k? Probably buy a nice car.

With $30,000:

1. Pay $5,000 towards school loans.
2. Set aside $10,000 to pay for a whole year of bills (mortgage and utilities)
3. Use the remaining amount to take some time off from work to attend the LeMans 24 hour race, attend the Goodwood Festival of Speed or attend at least one Japan Super GT Car Championship race, preferably a race in Suzuka.

I could care less about a car at this point in my life right now since I plan to keep my current ride for 2-3 more years. :)

Worry a lot less about how to pay for college. I'd only have to borrow $10k or so instead of almost $40k.

Travel the world a little, mostly leisure activities, no point in keepin it in a bank and doing nothing with it, although I'd save a little just for insurance

I'd save 15k, spend 3 grand on a nice vacation, spend 2 grand on stuff, and use the rest to buy a cheap car and pay for petrol and insurance.
