What's the difference: Track Tires/Auto by Weather?

Auto means the game will provide the appropriate tyres regarding weather conditions at race start.

Track tyres are your own selection along with wet, ice, slick & so on.

However, do not use auto when selecting tyre strategies, the game can cock it right up.

Thanks, Grumpy, for the reply but let me share what I'm encountering:

I'm doing an endurance race at vintage LeMans. I select the vintage prototype a Porsche, of course, and as I cycle through tire options, soft and hard slicks are not even an option.

The available options are:

Automatic by weather
Track
Ice
All terrain

I experimented by selecting the track tires but when I looked in the HUD as I drove it only said track tires, not soft or hard.

Since I've set up a 2 hour endurance race I should probably understand what track tires are?

Track tyres are just that, track tyres, no hard or soft option for them, (ok for rain as well).

Some other cars only have a slick option, not soft or hard slick, just slick, (you get a wet tyre option though).

I'm just about to upload a video driving the Ford MkIV @ Vintage Le Mans, like your car it only has the track tyre option but they're fine in all weather (apart from huge puddles in a thunderstorm) but I still survived (just) & they last quite a bit as well.

Ok. Thanks. I get it.

Do you have any idea how track tires behave compared to soft or hard slicks? How long do they last? How grippy are they? How hard is it to get them to temperature?

I did an accelerated 24hrs (24mins) & they hardly depleted, I had to double check that tyre wear was enabled, regarding keeping heat in the tyres I had to lower the psi & close brake ducts a bit just to stop them cooling off down the straight.

They're a bit slippy, but controllable fun slippy. Not like full on grippy slicks.
