Played shift for the first time Thursday evening and most of the day Friday. Overall take on the game is that it does not live up to the hype or the commercials. Only at driver level 16 or so. Worst part of the game for me is the damage. Seems like damage has little impacts and can not total a car? Granted not using the hardest difficultie settings. Car selection is decent. Track selection is okay. Graphics are decent, except frame rate. Phyics okay not great. Cockpit view, not impressed........not that amzing for sure.
Played Grid some more today and it seems better than Shift. Both Grid and Shift are borrowed games. Do not plan on buying Shift. However might by a used version of grid.
I only have PS3 so for now it seems that GT series will still be number one and a very long wait. Hopefull GT5 will be an amazing, very detailed, and loaded with content.
2:00 am or here now. Have now played Shift for close to 3 hours strait tonite. Wanted to give it another go before the person that has it goes home tomorrow. We have just unlocked Tier 5. My previus comments was a bit harsh. However damage needs improved, along with most likely the effects of damage. The tracks are great and the amount of back ground detail is good on most tracks. Car contact and how they react on contact is okay. There is a decent amount of cars and upgrade parts. With the limited paint tools it would of been nice to choose random paint jobs. Although each car you have does have option of having 3 or 4 premade race schemes. Just finished a figure 8 endurance race (That was wild). It was like a figure 8 derby sort of. Was not long before my car was driving like a sprint car.... spending most of the time sideways. Have been playing GTR2, however this was first year that really got into that game. PC is not that great so not as enjoyable as it could be. Anyways will say that Speed will kind of grow on you. Will most likely consider picking up a copy of it and grid for xmas. Should help fill the void between now and GT5. Shift has a good set of wheels to install on your ride, just would be nice to have auto preview. Also like the buzzer that goes off telling you that it is the last lap.
Keep it on the pavement.....
