I've been looking around GT6 Threads, most of them complain that the Audi R18 TDI (Audi Sport Team Joest) '11, and the Audi R18 TDI Prototype '11 are the worst LMP1 in the game, and saying the Audi R10 is better. Or are they complaining because they cant drive it?

In my opinion it handles very well and doesn't spin out that easily. Power is great etc. Im using a G27 doe. Infact my most favorite LMP1 in the game.

Whats your opinion on it?

The name. Who calls a car the R18? :P Just kidding. I have no clue why people hate it.

Because of the era it's one of the slowest in a straight line. Thing is you can put a turbo on it and still be able to control it, it is faster round a track and more enjoyable than anything else I've tried e.g. the Minolta.

I only started to dislike it because of its engine sound and switched to the slightly more tolerable Mazda 787b and I'm racing that instead, and its a tad slow in a straight line. I will probably start racing it again if updates improve it and I find a good setup.

I liked the R18 alot, i have the Aniversary Edition it´s very gripy and it handles any corner perfeclty.

People hate it because it's c***.

Good handling? Maybe, but good handling doesn't make a car good.

To be honest, yes it does. A good handling car is a lot harder to find/create than a car with straight line pace.

I find the Audi R18 TDI absolutely brilliant, I bought the batmobile-style prototype model and was so impressed that I didn't get out of it until I'd won two LMP/Group C tournaments and racked up 200 miles. It's never really going to compete with the 787Bs and R92CPs on the straights but with a few tweaks it slays both through the corners, the corner-exit traction in particular is phenomenal.

I've run the R18 15th Anniversary Edition and it handles very smooth, although that was with traction control at 1. Without TC the R18 drives very loose but is still controllable. One of my personal favorite cars in the game.

I love it, great handling, very gentle on tyres and fuel, and with low PP you can enter some races without reducing the power of the engine.
In Silverstone 10 laps, if the race was 2 laps shorter I would be able to do it without pit stops on Racing Hard (or even Medium maybe), stopped only for fuel.
Zonda R on the same race...
Lap 6: out of fuel and hard tyres on half-decent conditions, had to stop with 4 complete laps to do. (Lost the race with the Zonda, unable to catch the leader,a too fast BMW Mclaren F1)
The R18 it's a great endurance machine, every LMP should be able to beat it but in terms of low consuming I presume it did not have rivals (otherwise I see no point of using it). (not tested any other LMP or Group C yet)

Not necessarily...but without it, no car can be good either.

To be fair, I would snub the Audi because they're too dominant at Le Mans for my liking. So it's a bit annoying that they've been in both pre-order packages in GT5 and 6.

Really though, it is too slow stock, down on power next to the rest. Still a fine enough car to drive, but you can do much better.

It's a perfectly good car, it just isn't as fast as it should be. The 908 is probably the most realistic LMP1 thus far.

I actually enjoy driving it because it drives nice and looks very cool BUT >>>> the lap times at LeMans are slower on STOCK than they would be in the real car which is the "beef" I have with PD on their depiction of it. We saw the R10 TDI got slower than the Group C cars which is fine, but as this trend continues the car is now lapping 5 secs or even 8 secs a lap slower on Circuit de la Sarthe than its real counterpart without a stage 1 turbo. Clearly it has too high a drag coefficient or on stock it should have 50 hp more (I'm thinking the real car has more power and a little less drag) than depicted in PD's "artist rendition" which by the way look great visually.

Any difference between the anniversary edition and the 'stock' one?

Little more power, doubt there's anything else.

It's a good car once you get a good setup on it, I certainly prefer it to the R10, although the 908 is still quicker - but it should be. Note I do power limit the prototypes that get a huge power boost once you purchase them. Biggest problem with the P1 cars is they've got nowhere near enough grip/downforce still, they just fall of the track if you try to go as fast as you should be able to. I usually end up around current P2 laptimes with a P1 car on GT6, which is miles away from where it should be, considering most of the other race cars are faster than the real versions.

It's actually a little slow, but as with other categories, old is most times better, that's why people hate it..... I use the Bentley Speed 8 only because it was the only car capable of beating the mighty Audi R8 in Le Mans....

Isn't it based on an R8C?

Yes..! It has an Audi engine and everything, but besides the performance, I like the looks...! And I guess its a little faster if you race them along side....

And audi didnt enter a factory car in the race that year

People hate it because some people just need to hate something, plenty of hatred flying around GTP for many various reasons.

Personally, I don't have a problem with it, handles well, looks good, has 6 gears (does the R10 still have 5?) and is from the VAG family.

Fiddled with the gears and got it up to 277mph.

I think ppl hate R18 because modern LMPs got very low power in order to new regulations... It's not a proper hate to the R18, but to FIA that it's slowing down LMPs to not let them go faster than F1s, as F1s themselves are getting slower in last years...

The R10 has 5 gears, as it did in real life. R18 has a different gearbox, hence 6.

The ACO slowed the cars down, not the FIA. They also slowed them down because they've been doing it for years. They talk about a 3:30 laptime for Le Mans, but I think in recent times they've changed to aim for a 3:20 fastest before they'll start slowing the cars again. The cars haven't been close to F1 cars at all, even at their height with the old regs they were still 12 seconds slower at Spa for instance.

Sure, it's a good handling car. But the hate? The fact that it has a very low top speed and the fact that is has 50 less PP than the other LMPs.

I drove it. My only problem is its a bit... Dull. After 72 laps of London in my tuned Rocket, the R18 was just not doing anything for me
