I don't know. GT2 and 3 all the LM cars are fantasy cars, but i'm new to GT4 so i don't know if they changed the rules. LM cars are what could be possible, but they don't actually exist in real-life (not the ones in earlier games, anyways).

Touring cars on the other hand (and JGTC, DTM, etc) are based on reality.

Doh? AFAIK the Mazda 787B is real, Nissan R390 is real, the Panoz GTR-1 is real, The Toyota GT-One is real, The Oreca Viper is real and Corvette C5R is real (all are LM cars). In GT4 they have added a few others, like BMW V12 LMR, Audi R8, McLaren F1 GTR, Sauber C9, Jaguar XJR-9, Bentley Speed 8, Nissan R92CP etc.

If you refer to cars that are often labeled "LM" in GT games, they are however usually fake (Camaro LM, Mazda RX7 LM, and such).

GT1 cars are my fave type of racers (well, cars all together!), closely followed by Group C.

I second that - GT1 cars Own! Maserati Mc12 is the best car in the world 👍

I voted for Class C because they're well fun, fast, close, exciting and i voted for touring cars also because they're fast and handle well.

I realize i'm responding to this post 4 months afterwards but oh well.

Yes the Mazda 787B is real. The Nissan R390 is real. In fact all these cars you listed are real but they aren't LM cars dude!. You missed my point.

I'm talking specifically of the Camaro LM, RX7 LM, Mitsubishi 3000GT LM and others that Polyphony has specifically labeled "LM".

You are right and you are wrong! "LM" is short for "Le Mans", so the cars mentioned ARE LM cars!
Talking about the Camaro and the likes, some of them are real-ish kind of...The Camaro LM car looks very similar to the Camaros raced in some IMSA races during the ´90s, the Jag XJ220 raced in Le Mans in the mid ´90s, and a Zonda participated in Le Mans in ´02 or ´03.

Taht's cool  prove me wrong...i would love to be wrong.

For instance, I searched for several hours trying to find what the Camaro LM is supposed to be based on; with no luck. I woulda been happy with just a similar paint scheme, but i simply couldn't find it.

Why was i searching? Well in GT3 there are no stats for the Camaro LM. It doesn't list what size the engine is, for instance. I need to KNOW! If i can't get this sort of info, i lose interest in the car i'm driving. I did lots of driving in the Camaro LM in GT3, but in GT4 there are many others to drive that are reality-based, so i'll ignore the Camaro and any other LM machines that i can't prove are "real'. I can type "Oreca Viper" or "Kure Skyline" into a search engine and get instant results. When i type "S2000 LM" or the like in the same search all i get is a bunch of Gran Turismo stuff. The Camaro LM is an exception; like i said i actually searched and searched various websites looking for something to compare it to--with no results even close.

Also, has it been conclusively found that "LM" actually stands for "Le Mans?" There was some discussion in another forum awhile back; i don't remember what the final word was.

Allright, but I said they were "real-ish kind of", not actually based on real cars. There are however real cars that has some resemblance to some of the LM cars in GT games:
Mazda RX-7
real

GT4

Mazda RX-8
real

GT4

Pagani Zonda
real

GT4

Chevrolet Camaro
real

GT4

Nissan 350Z
real

GT4

Ford GT
real

GT4

I´ve never seen anything resembling the S2000 LM or the Nissan GT-R LM though.
You can find most of the "real" pictures at racingsportscars.com.

And I must maintain that "LM" is short for Le Mans, as in LM P1, LM P2, LM GT1 etc.

There you go...that was my point several months ago: LM cars are what could be possible. They are based on real-life to an extent yet don't exactly exist in real-life as the game pictures them.

That's not good enough for me! I need to know what type engine. What size engine. Whether the real-life machine had traction & stability controls, what's the suspension setup? Are there any quirks (i.e. loopholes) the team used to squeak by a regulation? If the game can't answer these questions for me i have no interest in the car GT is representing. I hate it when Polyphony has a spec sheet for an LM car (or some other car that isn't an LM) and it goes

ENGINE DISPLACEMENT/TYPE: --

...on the other hand, some of the pictures you uploaded are pretty close resemblances to real-life.

CNG
From what I heard the Camaro LM is a Inline 6 or V6 in Gran Turismo, can't remember which one.

That would make sense. The Camaro LM in gT3 sounds like it's got an inline 6. It doesn't sound like a V at all. Actually, i was a bit disappointed that it doesn't resemble the burble of what i'm hearing packed into Corvettes and Vipers on ESPN Speed channel.

I love the JTGC cars, Their handling is just amazing!
The cars are normally just stuck to the ground!!
You can really just chuck them into a corner & you will come out the other end :]
I love them, My favs are the Nissans :)

Forza had the real Zonda, the Saleen ate it for lunch. :D

As for my favourite, as much as I love JGTC, I'll have to go for the le mans cars.

I know, I need to grow up! :(

Front engined cars with not too much downforce (though lightly tuned MR/RRs are also fun) :)

I guess that ticks most of the boxes, but I really prefer cars that let me play a bit with grip limits and load transfer... so I ticked tuner cars

If I had seen it was multiple option then I'd probably add Rally, D1GP (drifting, not racing), touring/GT, DTM, JGTC too...

Can't really stand LMP/Group C/F1 though, too twitchy for me... I'd rather race a souped up GT car against a field of those, just to get through the race (GTWC for one)

LMPs all the way! I love how fast they go, and even though there's only 5 other cars in a race, it's still very exciting! They also look and sound awesome!

:-)

GT1 cars for me, i think, though F1 and Rally cars come close. I just like stuff like the Murcielago or DBR9 racers.

My main love is the GT cars (JGTC, GTS/1) I havn't really gotten into the 90's GT1s yet but I'm sure I'll go through a phase for them. I did on GT2. But having worked on a real Group C car and finding out how to set them up better I've fallen in love with them too.

LMPs are the greatest in my current book. They offer some good racing and competition without most of the technical items found in F1, which, while fast, is on a rapid decline. The LMPs still use technology, but are excellent and challenging cars to drive. They represent the pinnacle of sports car racing, but without the result of F1.

Most were also very good-looking... the GT-One and the Bentley Speed 8 Race car to name a few (GTPs)... the R8 and the Pescarolos are good too.

If not, then I would have voted Group C, for their rampant ruling and cunning. The cars were going too fast, so they imposed a fuel limit. An excellent way to curb speeds if there ever was one. They too were also lookers, but more were unique and purposeful, such as the Nissan R89C. They make fun model kits too!
