Abortion law should not be made out of convenience, it should be made on principle.

Couldn't agree more. There is NOTHING convenient about having a child.

Are you seriously still on this Pako? You still argue that all abortions should be illegal because a fertilized egg may eventually grow into something that has a conciousness? What difference does it make what it might become? The only issue is what it is in the present.

A fetus is a child waiting to be born. I never once said that all abortions should be illegal because a fertilized egg may..... There are extreme cases where the fetus or even embryo have to be killed so insure the survival of the mother. Famine used ectopic pregnancies as an example, although he said that 5% go full term (still curious on how this can happen, still waiting from a response from Famine on this.) What I did say ( or at least meant to say ) is that everything should be done to preserve both the life of the mother and the child. When there is no option, there is no option but to kill and remove the baby.

I see. So except in the case where the mother's life is endangered, you basically said what I thought you said - that abortion should be illegal. The other exception is the following

A fetus is a child waiting to be born.

So an embryo is not a child waiting to be born then? What is the fundamental difference in your mind between aborting and embryo and aborting a fetus? Is it the presence of brain waves? The ability to "respond to stimulus" (which any organism on the planet can do)? A heartbeat? A heartbeat controlled by a brain? The ability to distinguish gender?

What is it about a fetus that makes it unacceptible to abort where an embryo was not. I'll tell you what I think the distinction is - the shape. I think that as the future baby starts to take shape in its development, people start thinking of it as a baby instead of what it really is, a part of its mother.

You wish to call a fetus "a child waiting to be born". This statement assumes that prior to birth a fetus should be considered a child. I understand (quite well) that that is your position. What I do not understand is how you justify that position. Simply asserting that it is a child that is not born is not enough to convince me that it is so.

who cares how old it is, you dont even get attached to it

Two things can be determined from this post.

  1. You are certainly male
  2. You've never talked to a woman that's had a miscarrage before.

Yes i am male, and no why would i bother talking to a woman thats had a miscarrage, id rather talk to a brick wall

I have one question. How old are you?

PS
Actually the mother is. Literally and metaphorically speaking. Duh.

Wow, PS and I agree. I'm telling you. This had better not continue! :sly:

sorry for the late reply, but if she plans the abortion she shouldnt get all cutesy with the kid, shes only setting herself up for upset later
