Which book are you currently reading?

Finished reading a book last night.

"The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo" by Stieg Larsson. I've seen the film before (on a Shanghai to London flight) as it was one of the few films that was subtitled. I prefer reading than listening to voices. Anyway, the film was actually quite good, the book was miles better as it explains in more detail about the whole situation and why things happened when they happened.

But damn, the ending wasn't nice and you do feel for the main character. I have the second and third book waiting here, so I will embark on the second book at some point.

I actually can't wait. And this is very high praise from a guy who used to read anything and everything, but now limits himself to reading for pure pleasure of the story and nothing else. If it has a good style and story, I'll read it. If I feel that the story drags or something is inconsistent, I won't read it.

Quite recommended actually.

Yup, the movie is quite strange. In fact, if I hadn't read the books I don't think I'd understand the movies...
But bear in mind though, that the "movies" were actually a TV Series that they then put together.

Also, book #2 and #3 are just one story, so prepare for some massive reading. 👍

Yes, the movie was quite strange but I was happy that I was watching it while I was on the plane! It kinda forces you to watch it properly and understand where it is taking you. I would say that it was slightly disjointed and had some bits that wasn't explained properly in the film (the viewer were left to assume quite a lot of stuff). Although, it was a bit shocking seeing two rather violent parts of it. It did make me laugh about the tattoo bit, that was a genius imagination.

The book was more measured.

I will prepare to read book 2 and 3 one after the other then. Hm, need some time to dedicate myself to it then.... :D

Dunno if they count as 'books', but I was reading some fairly wordy car brochures from my collection earlier today, and then polished off my issue of Car and Driver.

Currently reading I, Partridge - we need to talk about Alan the autobiography of Alan Partridge. My brother bought it for me for Christmas and every single page makes you cringe.

I heard about that book and really want to read it. I'll wishlist it. I recently got a Kindle and here's what I'm currently in the middle of:

I started another one by Murakami, this time his last novel:

Do post your thoughts on it, please - I read Kafka On The Shore a few years ago and while I enjoyed it, I can't say I was enamoured with it the same way the friends who recommended Murakami were.

Currently have this to breeze through:

...and once that's finished, jumping into this (incomplete) 500-plus page novel:

I've just finished this:

And I'm about to start this:

They are so funny, if you haven't read them, read them now!

I just finished it last night.

I liked the intriguing layers and the interesting and (very) unusual subjects in this book, with some engaging and suspenseful mysteries. Having said that, and as you'll see in many reviews at amazon, it has two big flaws: First, it it big. I mean, way too big. This should have had a third of its size; also, the ending was disappointing... And this comes from someone who normally doesn't judge a movie or book based on its ending; I don't give "the end" that much importance.

In the end, I'm not sure I'd recommend you this 1000 page book... I'd recommend you Norwegian Wood though.

I'm giving Murakami a break, but I'll definitely read Kafka on The Shore sometime soon. 👍

Half way through A Storm of Swords part 1 Steel and Snow by George R R Martin.
Thoroughly enjoying it, the plot twists are very very good. Also it tells the story from several characters perspectives. And very slowly over the series they are being entwined together. With 3 more books to go it makes for an interesting read.
It is also a television series on HBO in the states, a game of thrones. Very annoyed that I can't watch it over here, but the DVD release shouldn't be too far away hopefully.

Still reading Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six, can't wait to read Red Storm Rising.

Rainbow Six is great in the beginning and through the middle... but the main plot and ending are so patently ridiculous that it almost ruins the fun.

Last big read has been:
The_Children_of_Hurin_cover.jpg

The Children of Hurin, J.R.R.Tolkien

It's dark, grim and depressing as hell in parts, but it's still worth a read.

It did take me many hours to finish it... The three volumes add to almost 1000 pages.

Umberto Eco's The Cemetery of Prague

I started reading this latest book by Eco last weekend and it is simply brilliant (so far). For the first time in a long long time I hate going to work, because I cannot continue reading. :grumpy:

I become depressed whenever I read anything by Eco because it makes me feel really really stupid. It's like when they had a dinner here in Stockholm just prior to the Nobel Prize ceremonies a few years back when they had 150+ Nobel prize winners attending. I mean, talk about feeling you are at the dumber end of the spectrum.

Just strike up a conversation about videogames. You'll do fine.

I'm currently enjoying Stuka Pilot by Hans Ulrich Rudel.

If you're into a riveting account from 'the other side', are a fan of WWII, or even a good story, I would recommend it. 👍

Also, the Bantam War Series as a whole = Any you find are worth the read!

I felt like reading a thriller and decided to start this:

Elizabeth Haynes - Into the Darkest Corner

I confess I got carried away by all the raving reviews... We'll see.

Forgot to get back into this thread after I had finished book 2 + 3 before Christmas!

I have to say, both books were actually pretty good. Although I did get a sense that the author was trying to slow the pace down sometimes, by going into detail on one side of the story, before then embarking on the other side of the story, rather than running both stories at the same time.

I understand why the author did it that way (the mystery effect) but it did make me go: "Well, I wonder what the hell is going on the other side of the story now!" at times.

It was a very good read and it made me feel motivated and young again to be reading purely for pleasure.

Now I have to try and find another author's books to read!

I am on summer holidays so i can read whatever i want, so im currently reading Tommorow When The War Began. Great book, but a little inaproprite for my age.

Ready Player One by Ernest Cline, so far it's really good. Lots of 80's pop culture references mixed with an MMO type of game. Worth a read.

Walter Isaacson - Steve Jobs

Can't say that I am an Apple fan. In fact, I've never owned an Apple product. But I'm sure this will be an interesting read.

I'm reading A Game of Thrones. I started about two months ago, but I got a little to busy and stopped about a week later. I'm gonna finish it this time
