Which book are you currently reading?

I’m about 2/3 of the way through Dawkin’s The Selfish Gene and 2/3 of the way through Hesser’s The Man Who Fed the World: Nobel Peace Prize Laureate Norman Borlaug and His Battle to End World Hunger. (Don’t ask why I started two books separately.) School keeps sidetracking me though.

True, but being as the old thread has been dead

for almost 5 years now, we might as well leave it that way, and carry on with this new thread instead. 👍

Currently I'm reading Pies & Prejudice: In Seach Of The North by Stuart Maconie

The witty title caught my eye while I was back in England in January for a sad occasion (Grandad's funeral) and I was looking for anything to cheer me up. It's been amusing so far, but as a work of non-fiction it's not without it's inaccuracies either, and while it mentions my hometown, the author's inability to get the names of the football stadia* right irked me a little, and showed the levels of sketchy research he'd done in compiling this. :indiff:

(* The book was published in 2007, and he suggests that Northwich Victoria were still playing at the "Drill Field", which in fact we left in April 2002! :dunce: I know, I was at the last match ever played there ;))

Oops. I've merged them together... :dopey:

I've just started reading Jo Ramirez - Memoirs of a racing man.

A danish book about Baader Meinhof...

Not translated to anything, so Baader Meinhof will have to make do..

About halfway through The God Delusion and about to start reading
I'm currently re-reading the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy series of books from my new "Ultimate Guide" edition.
for about the 10th time. Just listened to the full radio plays so decided I needed to read the books again, of course I couldn't find my copy so I had to wait 3 weeks for a new copy to come in the mail.

Just started reading the "Bourne" collection. Almost finished the 1st book and I have to say it's really different to the films.

Yes, and unfortunately, the first one (which is very good) is far and away the best one. They go downhill fast - but you should read them at least once.

I'm about 80% of the way through The Dark Tower, last book in Stephen King's septology (?) of the same name. I started reading the first book shortly before Christmas and I've read all 7 volumes back to back with no interruptions. Once I get done, I'll post in the "longest book you have read" thread, since it really is a single story.

as sad as this sounds Im currently reading "CONQUEST, The Roman Invasion of Britain" .. however before that I was reading the Twilight Saga by Stephenie Meyer :).

I'm also currently reading 1984, I'm at around page 200 right now.

I've just finished Battle Royale and after finish 1984 I have Jude The Obscure and Grapes of Wrath lined up.

Marley and Me - I gave this book to my girlfriend a couple of years ago. She read it, then my mom read it, then two of my sisters read it and now it's finally my turn. Though I'm not much of a book reader I'm enjoying this so far.

The only books I plan on touching for a while are "Thomas' Calculus Early Transcendentals," my calc book, "Auf Geht's!," my German workbook and whatever my history may term prof throws at me.

Literature-wise, the last book I've read was Eaters of the Dead by Crichton and the next book I'll touch will be "A Day in the Life of Ivan Denisovic" if I decide to re-read that for may term.

And no, I do not read books unless they are assigned.

Me too, just finished it yesterday.
👍

I should have finished mine yesterday too (I've been reading it since about Feb!) but I go through patches where I don't have time to sit down and read - like April! :( It takes me ages to read any book now-a-days. 👎

Just finished Peter kay's autobiography. It's brilliant 9/10 👍

Can anyone recommend some books relating to Astronomy? I don't want anything too complex, just want some light informative reading.

Mark, Bill Bryson's A short history of nearly everything has some great stuff in it that has content on astronomy in it, great book 👍

I'm currently reading Bill Bryson: notes from a small island (About England)

I've read A Short History of Nearly Everything about 5 times now, it's amazing. I am now hooked on the subject of space time, big bang theory, planet formations. Sounds geeky but it's an addictive subject.

Just finished reading Fatherland by Robert Harris. And just started The Welsh Girl by Peter Ho Davis. Coincidentally both books, although both novels, uncover stuff i didn't know about the Nazis during WW2. I'm not some kind of Nazi fanboi, but it's quite interesting to follow one book on the subject after another - keeps you in the same mind-set.

Just about to start Phillip Pullman's Once Upon A Time In The North

Brian Greene has two fantastic books, The Fabric of the Cosmos and The Elegant Universe. Check them out if you have not already done so.

Both are awesome books, I read Notes from a Small Island on the plane ride over to the UK.

Currently I'm reading through Douglas Adams So Long and Thanks for All the Fish in an attempt to finish off THGTTG series.

I remember reading a couple of Carl Sagan's books back when I was a kid, I just loved them and learned A LOT while at it. Got hooked too.

That man was just awesome. 👍
