Hello everyone,

I'm looking to purchase a Headset for my PS3, however i'm not sure on a couple of things. i will be using the headset mainly for Bad company 2 and Battlefield 3.

Firstly i have 5.1 surround sound set up with a Yamaha amplifier and would like to know if there are any Headsets out there that have a USB and Headphone jack? so i can here game sounds through the amplifier and chat from the PS3.

The second question is, are there any Gaming headset's that can only be plugged into the PS3 but also have the capability of hearing game chat and game sounds?

Finally what's your opinion on 5.1 headets and stereo headsets?

Thank you all help will be more than welcome.

I have turtle beach px 21's, they do exactly what you want ant aren't too dear.

They could do with noise canceling on the mic but other than that it also makes a great and comfortable pc mic :).

Just had a look at the video posted by AzNTypeR and they look pretty good, thanks for that

So am i right in saying that one connection will go to the PS3 (USB) and the headphone jack will be plugged into the yamaha amplifier?

Probably :P (Note: I don't have one but I always here positive reviews about Turtle Beaches :D)

I think I can answer most of this material here.

I recommend the Logitech Clearchat Comfort USB. I don't care much for fancy sound systems or whatever, but the Clearchat Comfort USB is the headset I use. This was actually something I was curious about when I got my PS3- should I get a Bluetooth headset or a USB headset. Since the headset I use is hooked in directly to the PS3, no need to recharge, and my voice is very clear. People actually understand me unlike some of the YouTube haters who think I have a synthetic voice or use a Voice Modifier. You could buy a fancy pants USB headset with trick sound capabilities, but the $40 USD Logitech headset I use is more than adequate for voice chatting.

I've always wondered if you could listen to in-game audio using a USB headset, but unfortunately, that's not possible. Like when I play Test Drive Unlimited 2, I'll mostly pick up voice chats from people currently in my session who are communicating through voice chat. It would be fairly interesting if both in-game audio and voice chatting could both be fed through the USB headset, but I don't think it's possible to do so.

the turtle head set does that. I think i'm reading your post right. I do not have it (I like my surround system, with the playstation bluetooth ear piece), but my buddy has the turtle head set for his xbox 360 and he loves it and he hears everything through them.

I used a Logitech Clearchat Comfort USB headset before I got this one, while it is a great quality microphone for the price it does not do what mp10 wants it to do. mp10 stated that he would like a headset that plays ingame audio as well as chat, the px-21 is the route to go mate.

The USB section of the microphone goes into the ps3 to get ingame chat and the aux plug actually goes into an adapter which the headset comes with. Now I am not sure if it can be done another way, I have never tried but the idea of it is that the PS3's RCA cables plug into the adapter, the adapter turns those into an aux plug which the headset plugs into. I am NOT sure if it can go directly into some sort of aux out plug from an amplifier, google may be able to help you there.

EDIT: And as mentioned above, the headset kind of works with an Xbox 360. Turtle beach makes its own headsets for that console to provide the same thing, game audio. However if you do have an Xbox, this one comes with an adapter to allow you to chat (only chat) on Xbox.

Another thing to mention is that the PX-21's have a few good controls. You can adjust chat audio and game audio separately and you can also adjust bass (doesn't do an awful lot).

Thanks for the help everyone, i'll check the Turtle beach headphones out.

Thanks for the help; i'll try and find a contact number or go into my local game store and ask them about the AUX.

If I can find that Turtle Beach thing, I may look into that headset. Otherwise, I'm still happy using my Logitech headset.

Yeah, they could be hard to find.......

I'm looking at TB's for the new COD release, and this decision is based solely on what americans, and australians have told me about them, and how I always have my ass handed to me by said americans and australians, who use Turtle Beach's to hear you before you've come round that corner.

I will probably go a little lower on price though, something like these:

http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B004R9Q1IK/?tag=gtplanetuk-20

Which do everything the PX21's do, but for less money.

So that's game audio, chat audio, individual adjustment, comfort, quality and a bendy mic.
But no XBOX connection on the PX11's.....

:irked:👍

Thanks for the help everyone.

Hi everyone, thanks for the help. I was browsing the net and i just seen that playstation have released the new PS3 Wireless Headset. Does anyone have it? What are your views on it?

Thanks

Anyone tried out the new PS3 Wireless 7.1 headset?

I ordered a set from Amazon and they arrived today, I'm at work so I won't get to try them till tonight. I had a pair of Turtle Beach and they were OK, but they are made fairly cheaply. I think the Sony's for $99 are a deal as I paid $80 for a stereo pair that plugged in the usb/audio out of the PS3. Will let you know after I try them out tonight.👍

Thanks for letting me know, I've not had a headset before so, I'm just looking around at the moment. The PS3 wireless headset has had some good reviews so will wait and see.

So I gave the new Sony's a trial run last night. They are definetely not a replacement for playing in surround sound. I played GT5 with virtual surround so I could try out the 'virtual' 7.1 surround. It is definetely better than playing in stereo. I played the Mini Cooper seasonal event to try them, I also played one of the new remote races so I could try different cars and camera angles. Having no cables to deal with is worth their weight in gold, speaking of weight they are very comfortable and light. The battery life is ~7.5hrs according to the instructions. If you want a good sounding headset with ease of use as to not bother anyone around you then these are a great deal. I have yet to go online on BBC2 and try the Mic out but I'm sure it will be phenomenal at this point. The wireless aspect is nice (USB) as you can listen to music through the PS3 and walk around the house (within range). I downloaded the latest BF3 trailer from PSN and it absolutely rocked through the headset. A few downsides are it does use up one USB port if you have the newer PS3 with two USB ports. The biggest disappointment for me is I utilize two Clarke Tactile transducers and a Buttkicker in my chair and the headset cuts ALL audio output from the PS3 including the Multi Channel Audio Out so I cannot enjoy my tactile experience. Maybe SONY will come out with a patch in the future but I highly doubt it.

Sounds good, i might actually buy this one. I really like look of it too :)
Thanks for getting back to me.

Check ot Logitec F540. It is a wireless high quality headset with ingame sound and chat. Its even better sound then same price hifi headphones I have tried!

On the day I bought "Sonic's Ultimate Genesis Collection" from a Best Buy long ago, I saw some of those fancy headsets. I even saw the hardcore headset Sony provided. Even if at the expense of sounding plain jane and old fashioned, there's no need for me to get something like those more fancy headsets. They can be good for hearing audio from the game and be able to speak into them. However, I'm old-fashioned. So I'm good just hearing the regular audio in voice chats.

I'd still recommend a USB headset over a Bluetooth headset, not to say I have any Bluetooth experience.

I understand what you mean; hoever i now need a bluetooth headset/headphone as i have redecorated my room; in result my PS3 is a little further away.

I used to use a logitech Headset however they were quite uncomfortable.

I personally use a Soundblaster X-Fi Go with a Sennheiser PC-360 headset. Only issue is that I don't have any sound but only voice chat coming through the headset.
But anyway that's what I use and although the headset is comfy, it's not an ideal solution for everyone.

Hi. I just bought the PS3 wireless headset and i'm very disappointed that the buttkicker shuts off when using this headset. If I don't find a solution to this problem I'll have to return it.

Believe it or not... I am somewhat coming around to getting a more gaming-specific headset. I still love my Logitech headset, but since getting Saints Row 2 this past weekend, I've somewhat become more interested in getting a more proper gaming headset. The Turtle Beach headsets appeal to me much because I want something cost-effective rather than spend anything really north of $50 USD. I'm actually seeking the best bang for the buck in gaming-specific headsets. All of you posting in this thread with suggestions are giving me plenty of interesting ideas to consider.

Can you please explain the problem?

I too was looking at turtle beach headsets however as i have my surround sound hooked up to the PS3 i need something like the PS3 headphone/headset whihc takes the game sounds directly from the PS3 and outputs it to the headphones; and the fact that its wireless as i sit around 5-6feet away from the PS3.

I bought these
http://www.amazon.com/dp/B004NRHL3A/?tag=gtplanet-20

with this (amigo II)

PS3/PC Chat Adapter Cable + Amigo II
Use this cable and the Amigo II to create a USB chat connection to a PS3 or PC.
Not compatible with the X3, X4 Headphones.

I've heard good reviews about these; howver they out of my price range; i'm looking to spend something around £50 to £80.

My friend has just bought the PS3 bluetooth headset/headphone so i'll test them out tomorrow.
