Is there any point at all in having certain cars run races and yet they are so far out of the running as to just merely get in the way? Not only are they slow, but also stupid. GT2 had some serious races, where the cars were so close in speed and skills.
For instance, in GT4 the Speedway Oval race they put in cars like the Gillet or Ford GT or Mercedes CLK or Nissan 390 GT1 or Camaro LM. Those cars just spend much their time up against the wall and sometimes even wind up spinning in the middle of the race track. Come on now. Those cars won't slow down serious AI cars or human drivers, but just become annoyances. I've noticed that a really slow backmarker can slow down a faster AI car, but just for a few moments at a wide track. At Tsukuba or Hong Kong maybe a little longer, but still, why bother. Any human driver can pass those slower cars in an instant and using a faster car than the AI has will still not make the race any closer.
The Corvette C5R and Gillet Vertigo are the notorious whipping boys of series races. They are so lame. They have nothing. I understand slipping in a slower car that saves its tires or gas to run further or longer than other cars. Those above mentioned cars have neither trait.
Now surely the GT4 race engine can handle five competitive AI cars at a time. The F1 championship doesn't put any seriously lame cars on the track (not that I've noticed, anyway)
I just plain don't like the idea of having to see an AI competitor that is lapped forty times in a 24 hour race. It's a waste of computing power. I believe that every AI car entered into the race should have a chance of at least coming in third, but surely not dead last every time.
So for what purpose would PD bother to add cars like that to a race? It really doesn't make much sense to me. Am I missing something that other GT4 racers understand the reason for doing such a thing?
Update: World Classic is mentioned by 3-Wheel Drive --
That race is seriously stupid. At least in some races all the cars are about equal since the AC doesn't enter every race. Still there is no purpose I can think of to have one car that fast among all those slowpokes. What is PD thinking?
