Why I think GT6 was liked by reviewers, but hated by (some) fans

@Chameleon9000, this is a brave thread for the constant-bitchers on here. I'm sure there's a proverbial somewhere that involves a desk-fan and some faeces... ;) I agree though.

The main reason why people are complaining about GT6 (in my opinion) is because it's a game on a PS3 and people are expecting next-gen and PC masta-race competing games and they're never going to get them on a near-decade old console. Compare GT6 to games like Forza 3 and 4 which are on the same generation of console and see who wins that debate... PD have promised a lot of features that the PS3 simply cannot cope with in a bid to stay on top and that is why many things are delayed and why we may never see them in GT6. GT7 will be a different story however and that is where we can compare it to pCARS, Forza 5 and the like. That fact alone shows that GT6 is doing well for itself when people need to compare it to next-gen and PC simulator games to try and get one up on it and even then it is pedantic slurs. 👍

Sure, GT6 has it's problems but when you compare it to any other racing game on the PS3 then it's by far the best. GRID 2 or Autosport, NFS titles etc. GT6 has more content, better graphics, better lighting, weather systems which other games, some on Next-Gen don't have yet (Forza 5) and yet GT is being slated.
I think it's just angst against PD for not keeping up with the rest of the current crowd when it comes to next-gen. But, if it wasn't for GT then the 'crowd' probably wouldn't exist, nor would they have to try so hard to compete and have silly gimicks like getting a certain car brand licensed for that specific title as a middle finger to PD and other developers (Yes EA, I'm talking about you).

The true GT fans are the ones who don't really complain, they play the game for what it is and find ways of really enjoying the game. The multiplayer section of this forum is full of regular races where the true fans play and rarely complain as they enjoy it for what it is. It's only the throw-away fans who complain about games because they always want something new to keep their tiny minds occupied. 90% of these throwaway fans are going to pCARS in March and good-riddance to them. They'll soon come back when they find all the faults with pCARS such as random bouncing cars (watch videos of external cam gameplay to see what I mean), inaccurate physics, in your face lighting and a lack of content... Sometimes it takes someone to experience something worse than what they have to realise what they left behind...

Features were only removed to be refined later. I see no problem in improvement, even if it takes a while :)

So, shuffle races, endurance races, rally races, and car trading have all been refined and added back to GT6? I must have missed that. Any word on when they're going to refine damage and fuel/tire wear for arcade races and reintroduce that?

Nope, a lot of us are complaining because very good features from GT5 (also a game on the old PS3 hardware) were unexpectedly removed. And also because instead of refining the game engine to make it run smoother than ever, they decided to try to hit next-gen standards which made the game run even worse than before.

I didn't say all features were treated this way. PD removed endurance races because they thought people found them annoying, rally races were removed because i don't know, car trading was removed because of hackers, and yeah. You just have to try and pick apart everything i say don't you. :(

Well, when you put out a dish of hater food don't be surprised when a bunch of haters show up. :sly: In November I finally moved on to PC land, lately I've been playing a game that's still in Beta that doesn't have anywhere near the features or car count of GT6 but it has fantastic AI and "sound porn" quality audio and I've had way more fun with that game than I ever had in GT6. So no, it's not about the missing promised content in GT6 because something as simple as good AI and good sounds have kept me entertained and smiling for hours on end.

Gramted, I'm getting PCars in March BUT that's because I only have PS4 so its the closes thing to GT for the meantime. When GT7 is out on PS4 I am buying it immeditately. I have played GT since the original and will NEVER abandon it. If I had a PS3 I would still be on GT6. I still play Gran Turismo 3 on my PC using PCSX2. I've learned to live with the bad car sounds and PS2 like cars.

It's inevitable with this kind of thread

That's the worst paragraph I've read on GTplanet so far this year. Truly awful.

The only real problem is the standard cars, they should just remove them in GT7 and start fresh because it's 2015 lol, and they're still using models from 2001.

This post is a long time coming from me so here it is... It's about time there was a '**** You' thread to all the constant whining bitchers on here. If the game is so bad then piss off to some other game and stop belittling people who do like the GT Franchise and bullying them into sharing the opinion of the minority. There are other sections to the forum, stay over there and praise those games... And yes, that is aimed at everyone who uses this forum to complain, belittle and bully to get your childish point across. I'm not flamebaiting or trolling here. Just a man who's fed up of not being able to have a good opinion of a game that he loves because of total dicks. 👍

I myself have been on the receiving end of the belittling and bullying because I have a dim-view on pCARS and aren't too impressed with it, I voiced this opinion and was attacked directly. Even my grammar and spelling was brought into the argument. Yes, I'm mildly dyslexic, well done for picking up on my spelling because you lost your argument. Aren't you the bigger person. 👍

...And to be honest, I don't care if I get banned from the forum after this post because I have my own GT forum to run and no body on there is a complaining childish whiner and we can all have adult debates, like in the real world... I'm just fed up of constantly avoiding posting my opinion on GT Planet because someone will pick flaw in everything I said or make me feel tiny because I said something good about GT...

Yeah, it's still 250 cars just premiums, that's without new cars and premium converts

Guys, both sides of the fanbase here have their extremes and both with equally bad arguments, defences and logic. (No, I'm not perfect either), but the personal insults (and supporting such an act) is unnecessary. If a game or forum is stressing you out that much then may be you should take a deep breath and a short walk, come back and then post in a calmer manor?

Otherwise @Chameleon9000's thread will be shut down in no time at all and nothing positive was achieved.

Reason it reviewed so well.

Game critics enjoyed it. It gives the user a very satisfactory experience. The cars go, stop and turn in ways that everyone can or will find fluid - within the realms of a video game at least. It has a very diverse selection of cars. Even with the standards situation, there is something for almost every branch of motorsport fan, minus bikes of course. It possesses both the ability to challenge the hardened fan and hold the hand of the very newest. It brings friends together to enjoy a love of cars, driving, racing, tuning and gaming. You don't even have to love car games to enjoy an evening online with friends running your garage of cars around tracks in a relaxed environment. As with most things in life, it's the experience that matters. As games go its a good one. As racing/driving games go, it's a great one. The very best the PlayStation has to offer at this point in time. For the PlayStation owning car fan, it's all you could want as each installment before it has been. Things ARE missing. Some removed - but the core experience is still the same. A car, a track, an enjoyable time.

Reason some fans disliked it.
It's a video game. With video game problems. Features get removed. Features get delayed. Questionable content is released in its place. Some things don't work. Bugs. Glitches, occasional performance issues. Things don't look nice. Shadows are funky. Sounds are this, seasonals are that. Whatever the reason. Nothing lasts forever - If you just aren't enjoying the very core experience - Be it days after purchasing, or after years of playing ... Flaws are all you'll see. It's at this point you should probably start looking for something else to play. The game will never meet your expectations. Especially when they raise every time you have a bad experience.

In summary:

Games, man. Why so serious?.

Unfortunately, its comments like this this that don't help the situation
I haven't no, anything containing the mere mention of Justin Beiber always provides an entertaining and lengthy, heated comment section. I shall have to check it out later :)
;)

I didn't say all features were treated this way. PD removed endurance races because they thought people found them annoying, rally races were removed because i don't know, car trading was removed because of hackers, and yeah. You just have to try and pick apart everything i say don't you. :(

Had you phrased it that way in the first place, I wouldn't have bothered to comment. But making vague/false claims to defend your position is something I have issue with no matter who does it. I used to defend this franchise tooth and nail as well, but my claims were based in fact.

There's nothing wrong with loving this game, and there's nothing wrong with hating what it's turned into. We're all entitled to our own opinion and we're all entitled to express them here (within the standards of the AUP). You knew what would happen when you created this thread, so you should be prepared to deal with any negativity that comes with it. I've played GT since the very first edition and it has a very large part in evolving my love of the genre from a simple time killer into a full-fledged (and expensive) hobby. Over the course of GT5 I defended it based on what it did have and didn't complain about what it didn't have, and I was able to enjoy it for three solid years. I gave GT6 nearly a whole year, and got some enjoyment out of it, at first I was disappointed at what a huge step backwards it was but had hope that my favorite features from GT5 would eventually return. Eventually, I realized they would never return and that the only way for me to enjoy this game any more was to race online with my friends. I organized several series and clubs, but as disappointment in the game spread there were fewer and fewer friends showing up to races and eventually there was nothing left for me to enjoy, and I got tired of chasing the rabbits a long time ago, so it was time to move on. Now that I've bought a PC I have zero reason to buy a PS4 so GT6 will be my last GT, sadly, but that doesn't mean others can't enjoy it in their own way. But the extremist comments from both the lovers blindly defending the game and the haters raging about every little thing has really turned GTPlanet into a hateful place of negativity where nothing is accomplished.

i did warn you that i am bad at explaining things.

I see why people are disappointed with GT6, I see why people hate it. I however, do not, granted GT5 is, in some ways, a better game. But, GT6 looks better, has a few tracks that are needed in a AAA track racer, it also has realistic day night cycles and weather on 70% of tracks. The features that are gone, I never even used on GT5. What was new back In November 2013 was better than what was gone. People who have moved to AC and FM5 are entitled to their opinion, if they express it correctly. They have the right to say why they left GT. Yes AC is likely far better than GT but I will still be playing GT 20 years from now. This thread has been a lot of fun, kept me entertained on an otherwise dull and boring morning. I hope I have express my thoughts of GT correctly, have a good day.

Last I checked, this was called "GTPlanet" and not "GT Lovers Only Club". It's an open forum and we're all allowed to express our opinions whether they be positive or negative (as long as we play by the rules). Also, my opinion of the game should have no effect on your opinion, or enjoyment, of the game, so why be so bothered about what other people think? I love pepperoni pizza, but I don't go on PizzaPlanet.net and rage at all the people who say they only like cheese pizza and hate pepperoni. But I also won't blindly defend the pizza maker if they suddenly start using tofu to make the pepperoni. :sly:

It's really boring to read this.

PCars doesn't interest me, I find it bad. Well, I don't go to forum of PCARS, I stay in the Gran Turismo section.

Moreover, you said than GT6 is your last GT so why you stay here?

So you're endorsing such an abusing post with many explicates.

Not starting something, just stumped at how you resolve something.

So you're sick of people abusing you, so you go and abuse everyone who has an opinion. Not a good idea. Last time I checked, people have a right to have an opinion, no matter how subjective it may be. I'll admit there are some members here who have a subjective opinion and go to any length to prove they're right, which I believe isn't right.

I do find it ironic that you disagree with people who have a dim-minded opinion in GT6, but when someone disagrees with you for having a dim-minded opinion on pCARS, they're the bad guy.

People should not pay so much attention to the reviews, and most of the reviewers are clueless, end of.

IGN's review for example... its horribly bad, and the reviewer doesnt even have a clue about racing/driving and doesnt talk about physics improvement, enough said.

Those days games are so much complex that its very hard to play them for some hours, review them completely, and give them a score... score relative to what?

It's really boring to read this.

I believe Zlork, you are misunderstanding the fact this isn't just a GT6 forum, heck, if you'd have read the news section lately, Forza & pCARS have featured there prominently.

There are more games in this world than GT, it's a matter of opening your eyes and trying something different.

Now, back on topic...-Ish.

The true GT fans are the ones who don't really complain, they play the game for what it is and find ways of really enjoying the game.

"Keep your head down and be grateful for whatever it is you do get" sounds like a terrible idea to me. Complacency is "true"?

It's only the throw-away fans who complain about games because they always want something new to keep their tiny minds occupied. 90% of these throwaway fans are going to pCARS in March and good-riddance to them. They'll soon come back when they find all the faults with pCARS such as random bouncing cars (watch videos of external cam gameplay to see what I mean), inaccurate physics, in your face lighting and a lack of content... Sometimes it takes someone to experience something worse than what they have to realise what they left behind...

Something worse: your current abusive attitude returning after a few months of it not being an issue. It can disappear again now.

Ok then, express your opinions once, not multiple times. I am not blaming you specifically, but we have heard enough of it.

It's interesting this sentiment is only ever tossed out in response to critics. It's been over a year with still no sign of Course Maker actually being released: how many more times do we need to read "have faith in PD" or "GT7 will be better"?

People are allowed to have differing opinions. The only exception is when they get abusive: see @ColouredBadger.

The point here being, I actually haven't heard you complaining, so its completely fine by me to hear this from you. Because i haven't heard you say this 1000 times, I really have no problems here. If however, you went to every thread in order to express your disappointment, and also bait the other members into hate comments, then I will be annoyed.
And as to why most of us haven't gotten tired of the opposite as you suggest? Because those comments aren't bait. Or at least that's what I think :)

Regarding review scores, I agree. What's the score relative to? It's down to what the individual thinks, I've seen games that didn't get good scores go on to be cult classics and games with near max scores fall flat on their face.

Now about GT6, I'll be one of the first to tell you it's not perfect especially compared to its rivals, but that's not to say it's bad, quite the contrary really.

So yes, I'm one of many who still like GT6 but I won't overlook it's flaws which it has.

For me, something I call The 3 C's is the reason I keep coming back.

The Choice, The Challenge and The Collection. The choice of cars to buy and build, the challenge of going faster and faster and the collection of cars you want to establish.

Ok then, express your opinions once, not multiple times. I am not blaming you specifically, but we have heard enough of it.

I don't believe there's anything in the AUP saying we're only allowed to express an opinion once. Just because you're bothered by these opinions doesn't mean they're not allowed to be expressed. By that logic, you should only be allowed to post your positive comments about the game once, and then move on. For some of us, the "I love GT and **** anyone who doesn't because they're d**ks" posts are just as annoying as the "I hate GT and **** anyone who loves it because they're d**ks" posts.

This whole thread was bait, and you got what you wanted. 👍 To be clear, I could care less what your opinion of the game is but you (nor anyone else on here) do not have the right to tell others what to love or what to hate or what to post. If you want a forum free from criticism of Gran Turismo, go hang with ColouredBadger in his "GT Lovers Only" forum.
