Why is Polyphony Digital so quiet

You're talking about assigning a translation PR person to Polyphony. That's a whole other layer of mediation that you're proposing. Point being, communication isn't as easy at the multiplayer lead jumping on Twitter and saying "hi". Smaller American companies can do that. I doubt Poly can, or is willing to eve go through the trouble.
You're telling us it's too difficult for one of Sony's biggest franchises to hire an International PR person who can keep people updated on social media? Nintendo alone has people going around filing copyright strikes against gamers streaming/YouTubing Mario games.

Polyphony can easily accomplish this goal with Sony behind them, they purposely choose not to.

I keep seeing this excuse peddled around on this forum and it never, ever seems to hold any water. I don't understand why it keeps getting pushed.

It's like you think having money is like having a genie in a bottle that should be able to do whatever you want it to do.

It doesn't work that way. First there has to be a desire for such a role, from the top down, and I don't see any companies from Japan with that sort of American twitter/AMA indie developer PR shtick.

Secondly, the more logistic barriers in place, the less likely it is to happen. With multiple languages to account for, no internal team or individual to man it, no desire from the top, and a development culture that probably just wants to focus on their work... I can see why that sort of communication isn't happening and it doesn't surprise me.

Look at it this way, if it was as easy as you think it is, wouldn't it already be happening?

Uh, no one said that. But Polyphony has a major budget with a huge company behind it. The money is there.

Ah, so the argument is now there’s no desire. Which is exactly what I said; they choose not to.

That’s a better argument but it doesn’t make it impossible.

Your last question is still relevant to what I said; they choose not to. Your original post acted as if they couldn’t do it if they want to. They have the resources and backing to do it. Don’t kid yourself thinking Sony wouldn’t step in if Kaz needed a PR person; as people pointed out earlier, they were doing just that on FB up to release, giving out hints about th game. So clearly, there is already someone in such a position.

IMO there are these (logical) reasons for that:

a.They have nothing to communicate about (highly unlicky)
b.They choose not to (for various reasons/very possible)
c.Their product, speak for itself (I think many would agree/disagree with that).

Both of their main competitors, if you want to call them that, on this platform, have forums where various members of their teams are in direct contact with players. GTP itself has had 2 high-ranking members of one of the development teams here for months answering direct questions from the players. One of them has conducted live streams of coding sessions. One may not like the games or the people developing the games, but at least they are available and interacting with the player base.
SMS recently opened a Discord server where you can chat and voice-chat with developers, mods and the whole community (including several prominent YT/Twitch streamers) directly. 👍
Turn 10 communicated directly with players on the subject of wheel FFB and various other topics. 👍

Cough No Man's Sky Cough
To be fair, I think Sean Murray got a gag order then because he said way to much before release.

That said, I don't think PD ever communicates outside of specific moments of their own choosing (and those are relatively sparse), not sure why people are surprised about this now.

Except, this isn't a new developer, and this isn't the first game they've made.

So yes... I kind of expect the world.

Well don't. It's not realistic.

I see comparisons made to other developers... The grass is NOT always greener, and presence does not always mean honesty.

Stop stamping your feet children

Okay.. So by your logic, people shouldn't expect a complete, fleshed out and high quality game from an established developer who has worked on numerous iterations of this game since what, 1997?

I'm not expecting presence, honesty or any of that, I'm expecting more than half a game, and not promises of "free content" down the road.. Some time.. Probably.. Maybe.. Eventually.

The fact that people put up with this crap is why games are shoved out the door half finished, or in bug ridden states. I'm done. No more pre-ordering or Day 1 purchases.

This thread has absolutely **** all to do with the quality of the game. Did you even read the op. The bitch about the game thread is elsewhere. Here we are bitching about lack of communication.

Corporate NDA, varies from one organization to another. Whether that's culture, corporate mission, Asian dynasty being Sony & Japan ==> to oh example, brain farts on Twitter by an elected president of the great USA. and everyone in between.

Common sense like that doesn't work with PD and Kaz are concerned.

lol If the president of Sony Worldwide Studios can find time to tweet so much learn english and give interviews, becoming one of the most liked open and honest gaming personalities around. Nearing 50,000 tweets.

Whats Kaz "needs to be fired" Yamauchi's excuse ?

Just thought I'd come here and point out that in the game we got a notice about the decal uploader. For all the complaints about "where are they", well, here's a 'small' answer. It aint solving everything, but you load up the game and the notices are right there for you to read. Thanks to that I now have loads of real-world brands in my decals that can help me put finishing touches on liveries I created.

I have a question:

  • Does this game have an official support email and/or forum to visit?

As big as GTPlanet is, it’s still an unofficial communication channel. For Forza you have an @microsoft.com email address you can contact, as well as the official forums.

If I had a technical issue with the game, would the official PlayStation forums be my best bet? I know it was used by Polyphony during the Closed Beta but I’m not sure if things are different post-launch.

They also have accounts on other social media sites as well as an official web site. What kind of reply you'd get if you engaged them, I don't know. Sony, in general, has taken to being vague at best lately. To be fair, though, it's a direct response to the vitriol they tend to get when something doesn't work out the exact way they initially intend it to (and communicate it to fans that way). For instance, release dates. You may have noticed that at E3 and Paris, Sony revealed a lot about some games, introduced others we hadn't heard of, and I believe we got zero release dates. Better to get mild agitation from the fanbase for too little information than straight up anger for "broken promises."

Yeah, but you say that like it's a good thing. ;)
PD has always been this quiet? It was like this for GT6 as well at least.

Yeah, I don't see them as being particularly quiet. They've been releasing pretty constant updates. We currently reside in a world, however, where people expect frequent, personal (but not IN person) engagement. And people expect to get what they expect. Or, you know, whatever they expect and aren't getting is a deep, personal affront to them. ;)

Can you imagine how absolutely pissed off people would be if customers constantly, repeatedly came to their day jobs and asked them why they aren't doing their jobs better?

Can you imagine how pissed off custimers would be at that same business if they had questions about the product they purchased and the owner constantly repeatedly refused to interact with them?

Consider that entire industries and communities of industries tried to embrace Kaz, PD and the GT franchise - only to be left holding the bag and crowds of confused consumers.

Take SEMA - these guys where fooled into thinking they could promote a series of awards for car builders that literally spend HUNDREDS of THOUSANDS of dollars on SEMA builds, many with the hope of catching Kaz's eye and a chance at an award and world wide exposure.

To this day the award is still being handed out yet there are still winners that have yet to appear in a game - and where would their car go in GT:Sport?

Car companies spent untold amounts of money on the Vision GT cars, thinking they would be showcased in the next "Rael driving Simulator"... LOL - I bet there are more than a few executives, accountants and shareholders wondering just what the return was for their effort.

See, other than a few die-hards and Kaz - nobody else knows the globally famous GT franchise is now an eSport online only iRacing wannabe.

These hordes of fans have all been expecting GT7...

No wonder PD is silent LOL.

BTW, does the FIA know they have been roped into this circus?

Do they get more than just a contract saying your car will be in GT? I thought they get a trophy and all that.

To be fair, most social media presence from other publishers is just pre-scheduled posts from a marketing person who knows next to nothing about the product and will just spew promotional fluff at their followers with little to no interaction.

Right now there is a bug which is crashing the game for anyone who tries to view the points standing for the FIA Manufacturers Series event... which anyone who has participated is likely to do since previous points are gone!
This is when I expect prompt communication, even if is only "we are aware of the problem and investigating."

Can you imagine how absolutely pissed off people would be if customers constantly, repeatedly came to their day jobs and asked them why they aren't doing their jobs better?

Um, that's pretty standard customer interaction. You've never had someone disappointed with your product come and talk to you about it?
