Why so few F1 tracks in GT4?

it'd be great if GT only has real tracks PLUS locations...

i'd love to drive around Shanghai F1 track, but i also wanna race around HK and NY cities....

but screw Highspeed Ring or Apricot Hill.... or other "fantasy" tracks..

Can you please let me know what the problem with Apricot Hill is?

IMO its one of the best 'fantasy' tracks to ever appear in a racing game and far better that a lot of real circuits I could mention.

Tracks like Apricot Hill, Autumn Ring and Midfield (excellent test track for high speed cars) may not be real, but they are very well designed. Some being a real challenge to extract a good time from.

In GT3 Apricot Hill and Midfield were two of my favorite 'test' tracks.

I have a couple of questions -

First of all is the Nurburgring Nordscleife the same Nurburging F1 has in its current season - at first i thought it was but i doubt if after seeing the RUF video, doesn't look the same.

Also is Suzuka confirmed it GT4? I have neven seen or heard it is in it - but correct me if im wrong.

👍

1) The Nurburgring in GT4 is NOT the current Nurburgring GP course. It is the "Nordscleife", the classic and defacto Nurburgring from history. 21+km long, 190+ turns...the greatest racing circuit ever made. It hosted all types of racing from the 30s (when it was made, right?) up to the current day. However due to it being so long and so dangerous in the early 80s the current shorter (and boring, IMHO) GP circuit was developed and used from the mid 80s on for F1 and other series. The Nordschleife is still used in endurnace racing and such and anyone can drive it for a fee as it is open to the public.

2) I haven't seen anything about Suzuka not being in GT4. Didn't I just see some scans in this forum about the circuits in GT4 with pictures of Suzuka?

you know, looking at the popular threads nowadays, I feel something big is coming up.. cause there will be a riot compared to these in the next weeks.. some new information, maybe? (ok, beam me up, scotty)

to be honest, only the last couple of gt's contain some f1-tracks, and now we're getting a bunch of real race-tracks, think we should be satisfied.. imagine the day gt5 comes out, with 50 gb on one disc..

I'll leave it there, and monza would definetely be a great inclusion, either now or in the great-great future...

I was close. I knew it was around there sometime.

Attached are some maps to show the scale of the Nordscleife to the current GP circuit and how the relate to one another.

I like having some made up tracks. Deep forest is great.

If I could have 2 more recent F1 tracks I would have Interlagos and Estoril.

nothing is wrong... i just prefer real over fantasy... :)

just my 2 cents in this. It would be nice if they had F1 cars, but not as they were in GT3. And why not include old F1 cars too, i know those are old but I mean like the colin chapman cars and Jackie's Tyrell and so forth. Not just a few. And well I think this track would be fun to race in any type of car. Spa-Frankochamps. Especially with that turn below.

There is a bit missing from the GT4 (and current track layout) that was in the "classic" track layout.

The GP circuit is built over the top of it, but there used to be a long start/finish straight, the "sudkehre" and another straight leading onto where the GT4 track start/finish is.

There is picture of the Pholyphony 001 so they are in ;)
Are you sure? I've saved just about every decent/important GT4 picture I've come across (roughly 1100 or so) and I've never seen what you're refering to.

Hvaing heaps of F1 cars on GT4 doesn't really bother me, that's what F1 games are for, but F1 tracks have some great layouts and it would be great fun to run heaps of different cars around them 👍

You know what I meant.

As for F1 cars in GT. I don't mind, but if they are going to do it, do it right. Lets have some of the classic GP/F1 cars from the 20s-00s, 1 for each era. How much fun would it be to rip around the Nurdscleife in a old germn 19020s era GP car. Or Monaco in a late 60s F1 car.

As it was done in GT3 it seemed like an after thought. Though the homage to Senna was nice.

As for F1 tracks. That term is a bit misleading. GP circuits or "world class" circuits is maybe better. Most of those circuits we ar eall talking about run much more than just F1 cars. That being said I think alot of the current F1 tracks are kinda cookie cutter. We don't need them all.

GT seems to be highlighting "classic" circuits, be is European, north american or japanese. So going with that idea, I'd like to see in GT5;

-Spa Francorchamps*
-Monza*
-Hockenheimring*

* Each of the above I would like to see the "classic" layout (old busstop with Spa, banked turns at Monza, wooded straights with Hockenheimring)

I'd also like to see;
-Watkins Glen (GP course)
-Imola (to go along with PD's Senna homage, also my fav F1 circuit)
-Daytona or Indy (I'd like to see one or the other for a high speed oval)

Also I'd love to see;
-Famous "parts" of the Mille Miglia (I know it would be hard to model though)
-Famous rally stages

Maybe PD would have to pay some royalties or license fees to the track owner in order to reproduce it in their games ( like the cars ). Of course for a F1 track on public streets like Monaco they don't have to pay a dime and can enclose it freely in theitr games.

I didn't mean to correct you. I was just pointing out that there is a bit that is gone completely.

As to the F1s in GT question, I'm of the opinion that F1s, and purpose built racecars, shouldn't be in GT. To me, the game is about road cars.

Actually don't think that is true. Yes it is run on city streets but is all controled by the "Automobile club de Monaco" who control the event and all media coverage and such. They own the name and right to botht eh Monaco GP and Rally. PD would have had to go through them.

I know, I know.

I kinda agree with you on that point of road cars. I do prefer them in GT. That being said where do you draw the line. Say Porsche was in GT. Their road cars come from all their racing history. You couldn't have one without the other. Same for Ferrari, etc. Granted those makes are not in GT but still, road AND race cars are part of those makes and hard to seperate.

If GT was just about road cars it would turn into another dumb ricer/street racer where putting body kits and stickers or a car is the most important thing. I wouldn't want to see GT go that route. There are plenty of games for that crowd.

GT to me should be a mix of all of that stuff. Road cars, new and classic, race cars, F1 cars, rally cars, drag cars, muscle cars, GT cars...etc etc. In the the sense of what "Gran Turismo" means it all should be in there.

There are only three F1 tracks that I'd want, and one of them is already in the game (Suzuka). The other two are Silverstone and Imola.

Kensei, that is why GT3 put monaco in but they called it cote d'azure. They included city streets (the same ones that the F1 course happens to include) but I doubt they had to pay a dime because they didn't call it monaco.

I knew that, thus the subtle changes in the circuit. But still the ACM owns the race, intellectual property, etc. I highly doubt PD didn't do anything with them to get it into GT3.

Yeah, I don't know if they worked with them or not. I know the monaco track was in need for speed: porsche unleased and it was called cote d'azure as well.

"cote d'azure" is a term for that region, the french riviera, right?

isn't "Mistral" also another name for the Monaco GP circuit?

From this thread.

It was shown during a special event before the Japanese GP in 2003. It might have been made just for the event and not put into GT4, but I doubt it.

The long straight on the Paul Ricard circuit (which is down in roughly the same part of France as Monte Carlo, just inland from Nice) is/was called the Mistral straight, and it's also the name of a wind, but I've never heard it in connection with Monaco.

I was never fond of putting F1 cars into GT. I'd rather have another Skyline than one of those things. There are other games for F1 racing. The tracks, however, the more the merrier, especially the ones that are also used by touring series eg. Silverstone, Spa, Monza or Nurburgring.

Hmmm, looking at that picture, notice how there's six different GT logos to chose from. I'm assuming those represent the six F1 cars, so we're probably going to see all six return.

Those GT logos are just there for cars that you can't choose the colour for. So if you had a yellow car, the circle would be yellow. Thats how it is in GT4 P anyway.

F1 tracks are designed for F1 cars, but most F1 weekends have supporting racing series like F3, Carrera cup, F360 challenge, etc before the real F1 race. Think about it, there's only 1 F1 race for those tracks every year, and they are not empty for 360+ days a year. BTCC, DTM, ETCC, and various forms of motorsport are held in these tracks every year. The fact is these tracks have the best facility and maintenance. I want F1 tracks not because I want GT to be an F1 game, and I don't care if there's no F1 cars in the game. I would probably never get the chance to drive an F1 car, but if I were to do a track day in my own car, I will definitely go to Shanghai, Suzuka, Spa, Hockenheim, Malaysia, etc over those Szuguba or something. Comon, how can you guys not excited about turn 1 of the Shanghai track? Reach 250 KM/H at the straight, and then start turning in at 5th gear, and as the trun tighten up, you trail brake to 1st gear for trun 2. How many other tracks have this kind of fast in slow out, increasing radius corner? Even Michael Shumacher can't get the turn right the first time he spun out in final qualifying session.

Excellent points brought out Zeus if Schumy cant get it right imagine me?
:dunce: would love to take the Shanghai in a Audi R8 (maybe for GT5)
