Will you be able to choose the transmission

I thought AT/MT stood for Automatic Transmission/Manual Transmission?

It does, but it clearly doesn't simulate automatics, it is clear GT is auto shifting for you. People understand the simple AT/MT rather than having to explain to the player it is "GT controlled auto shift/Player controlled shift".

I cannot say that I've seen one of these post in this thread here.

i was just wondering since i've not read anything about this in any forum or any press release but in GT5 will you be able to choose the transmission such the BMW M3 you've got the manual and then the DCT which makes a difference to the performance of the car. And another thing is will you be able to use launch control for cars that have it in real life from standstill

your first point, sorry i may find this difficult to explain but, i dont think this will matter. the horsepower of the dct and manual m3's are exactly the same. the ways round the gearbox situation are, if you wanted to drive it as a pure manual and lose a little time accelerating you can use a g25 wheel with clutch. if you want to drive it as an automatic you can use a pad or any wheel. and if you want to use it as a sequential like me with no lift off there's the pad and all the wheels out there.

as for launch, yeah who knows? probably not, as to select this would mean doing a setting in the 3 seconds you get before race start. i think poly will have considered how fast each car can launch in its best setting.

I think what he means is that a manual gearbox shifts slower than the DCT - this makes the "performance" of the car higher - due to less time lost out of gear... nothing to do with the amount of power or torque available.

thanks for that. i didnt want to have to explain and you did it prefectly.

and b_schwarz the gearbox does have a lot of difference even if they have the same horsepower. and with the whole steering wheel i understand but i would like to know the specfics about the game itself

I remember some of the earlier NFS games did something similar on the fly: If you choose to shift yourself, the car drives normally. If you choose to let the computer shift, the game would switch to the gear ratios that the equivalent AT car would have if there was one.
For example, if you chose a manual Corvette, the game would give you a standard Corvette 6-speed gearbox to shift yourself. If you chose automatic, however, the game would switch the gear ratios to that of the real life automatic, which means you would be driving with the computer shifting the 4 speed gearbox that the real life Corvette actually had if you bought it with a slushbox. Of course, the car still didn't drive like it was an automatic, but it was a nifty touch at the time.

I would love that every car in the game had all of its different options for manual and automatic. But with the traditional manual and automatic options I'm fine. Besides, it would be a pain to do all the variations.
