Williams FW33 Launch

True, but even so, there's a lot to be said for "wait and see". Jumping to conclusions, even experienced conclusions, is still jumping.

I don't know, and I don't rightly care. You were told ot to discuss GTP matters over there; the same applies here.

I was only asking if it's working, since it's not for me. No harm done...

Why do all of the cars seem to have this tiny rear end this year? It looks like there is only half a car there, and instead of the rest we are left with this flat rectangle at the bottom.

The lack of double diffuser means also that the rear wing efficiency becomes more important, so the less clutter before the rear wing the better...

Would've been the trend in 2009(and was what RB5 did in 2009) until DDD was declared legal...

I like the extreme packaging solution of this car(although not sure how structurally sound it is), hopefully the Cosworth engine will be up to snuff...

I believe a couple of weeks back F1Lite on twitter tweeted that they will be running Venezuelan colours...

So by retro maybe..

With a little more blue.. who knows.

Good lord, are you the most pissed off person around or am I missing an event here?

As far as I know Peter only asked a question whether a website was working for us, because it wasn't for him. Where did infractions and warnings suddenly come into the picture?

Apparently, despite it being only the second day of testing, Rubens is NOT a happy bunny at all with the car.

Elaborate bluff or real problems at Williams?

It's a new car, he might not be comfortable for the first couple of times being in there. The only problem that they had in the first day was the KERS system. Others seems to be in good shape. We'll just see whether Pastor is happy with the car or not before we can make a conclusion...

I never usually take testing pace as a yard stick but Will Buxton of SPEED has said Rubens hasn't said a complementary thing about the car and is really struggling and has said 'big changes needed'

In the grand scheme of things, mediocrity is many times a consequence, and I do believe that's what happens in the latest Williams cars (the cause being very tight budgets). I wouldn't call them mediocre anyway.

Sometimes, however, mediocrity - most of all when it comes from the people in charge - is or may be the cause for the downfall of anything, from F1 teams to online shops.

I don't believe that's the case in the Williams team either. Both Frank Williams and Patrick Head deserve, for all their achievements, and also for keeping Williams alive (and kicking) when the going went tough ... all my respect.

But this is all off topic. We're discussing their latest car. And I like what I see, just hope it will deliver! 👍

Damnit, I would just love a Rothmans livery. All they need do is get them as a sponsor and just do a Ferrari. Hide their identity, but keep the livery. lol

It's unlikely that any tobacco company would invest in Formula 1 since they get zero exposure. The only reason why Malboro maintain their association with Ferrari is because they've been in the sport long enough to work up an identity and an association with the team. Anti-tobacco laws hurt them, but not as much as they would a brand entering or re-entering the sport.

That said, a Rothmans-style livery could be possible for Williams. It would just have to be done with a colour other than gold. Pastor Maldonado has been spotted wearing a cap in red, white and navy blue, so it could be possible with a little bit of tweaking (though if you look carefuly, the PDVSA logo on the FW33's rear wing is red). The Venezuelan government is also keen to promote the country, and the PDVSA logo on the car during Maldonado's demonstration in Caracas was outlined in a bright yellow-gold, so there's another possibility.

Personally, if Williams were to pursue a re-creation of one of their own liveries, then I'd prefer they go with a Rothmans one. The FW14 livery was nice, but the Rothmans one was just genuine class.

You would give someone an infraction for that? Serious?

Ime waiting for the answer aswell .
It looks like Bully boy moderating.

They can still use blue and white. It will just be in a different colour scheme to what they are running in testing.

But with the rumours that they'll use a retro styled livery this season plus announcing that they'll reveal their livery next week, it would be fair to assume they'll be using a different livery this season. If they were going to use the same livery, would they really make an announcement like this?

For the record, I have no dislike of the colour's blue and white, I just don't really like the liveries williams have been using since 01. While it has changed significantly since then, I'd like them to go back to the drawing board and come up with something completely different.

That's not what I meant. I mean that Williams can have a "retro livery" and still use the colours blue and white, which have become synonymous with them since 2001.

Ah... Well I'll still hope for something radically different, regardless of the colours used.

Me, too. The blue and white is getting a bit boring.

Nearly spilled my coffee when I read this... Just because of our discussion of the livery... Turned out after all that that we were on the same side...

The livery gets launched today. According to Will Buxton, Barrichello and Maldonado are sporting overals in blue, red and silver, suggesting a Rothmans style livery. It will be launched at 11am GMT, and you can see it here.

Disappointed. It's more or less last year's livery with some gold added (and a small bit of red), and tilted a bit towards the rothman's livery of yesteryear. hopefully it will look better in natural light.

I'm not a fan. The rear end looks great, but the front is a mess. The whole nose, from Williams logo to the cockpit should be white, and those vertical fins alongside the sidepods should be dark blue. Get a few more sponsors in there, and it would look great.

I also don't like the tehcnical approach. It reeks to me of being different for the sake of being different, and going from there. The car should be designed to be the best car possible, even if that design is as generic and conventional as can be. Making the tight rear for the sake of having something different sounds like someone is playing Russian Roulette witha semi-automatic because they've already compromised their priorities, giving up an optimal design for the sake of being different.

Amusing that you criticise the design of the car like its a fashion statement. When Renault put their exhausts at the front, its a "fantastic innovation" but when Williams create an uber tight-rear end its "being different for the sake of it"? :dunce:
I quite like the livery, at first glance it looks a mess from the front, but the side profile looks great. 👍

It's all in the way Sam Michael presented it. The first thing out of his mouth was pretty much "We knew we wanted to have something different", and while the rear end obviously has its benefits, Michael almost made it seem as if Williams' priority was having a car that looked different.
