Someone else suggesting a starter word containing c who apparently has the maths to back this up.
Warning: half-hour video

I'm sticking with soare.

I just skipped through that really quick. For a bot, that might be right, but I still don't see it for a human. Heck, the very first example he gave at the start of the video gave an impossible guess. Who in their right mind would guess SHTIK after getting :indiff:;):sly::indiff::indiff: from CRANE? It omits both of the correct letters!

If you know two letters after your first guess, going for a word with neither of those letters gives you a 5/21 chance of finding at least 1 yellow letter (ignoring the commonness of letters). Following it with something like "Flair" makes it easier to solve the yellow letter, but reduces your chance of finding another yellow or green to 3/21.
Basically, in the early guesses you need to balance out what you're going for. Do you want to chance a 2/6 but risk it going on to 5/6, or do you want to sacrifice your second guess to further your chances of a 3 or 4/6?

Ignoring yellows and greens in your first guess for your second one and only using white letters is going to statistically always make it easier to get 3-4/6 scores.

I always use info from my first guess to make my second.

2nd guess was a screw up. 4th was mainly used for elimination. By that point I had the 4th letter and just needed to figure how it goes with what was left.

A slight variation in my opening word gave me a good starting point.

I'm embarrassed by that one...

It would have helped if
they hadn't used a 6-letter word that was misspelled as the green word
Internationally popular games... what can you do?

I tried the "guess a completely different word for #2 to eliminate more letters" method today and it paid off on the next go. Guess the bots might be onto something.

My father decided to use my word and because he stupidly told me it only got him the last letter, I intentionally diverted to a different word to use.

I sat for ages after my 2nd go until I remembered they don't use proper spelling. When I got the u first time, I was reluctant to waste a guess on a q.

@Jimlaad43 After our discussion above, I've decided I will use the first two guesses for data, and ignore the results from guess one and see how it goes.

Going to give NAILS and ROUTE a go. Uses up all 5 vowels as well as RSTLN.

Great start! Don’t regret my second guess, as it eliminated a bunch of letters. For some reason I just had a really hard time finding the last letter.

I got my first 6 on Tuesday but didn't fall for the trap yesterday and got a 4 (should have got 3 but went for the only other word ending with those 4 letters instead...)

Still 100% though - 32/32 with an average score of 3.78.

From the disgruntled reactions to yesterday's word you'd think someone had shot at their dog, lol.
I missed out on 100% as my first time play I mistook the example word for the clue but I soon got the hang.

The nails/route method didn't help me solve today's word any quicker though.

I made a dumb mistake repeating the wrong letter from turn 3 to 4 which didn't help though.

Wait, Wordle spelling a word as "Humor" was news worthy? Wow, newspapers are really desperate for stories...

Newsflash: it wasn't the headline... I'm sure they're well supplied with stories outside of their "life" section when they're not trolling for clicks.

Has anyone consulted the list of previous Worldes in order to maximise their scores?

I decided not to incase I want to play older games, but it does make some sense i.e. to rule out previous words (though I wonder if repeat words happen?)

Wordle didn't provide one so I didn't think to check other sites.

The only list I found that wasn't 2022 only was this one on Reddit which seems to include future words as well. I hope not or that's me out of the game.
