Wouldn't you rather it be the 'Real Racing Simulator'?

I don't think more people would have made it come out faster, you can only have so many people doing one job. If they hired more and more people it would actually take longer.

Well, you can always divvy up jobs, such as car and track modeling, and add people to that. But let's do some quick math. Initially at least, it took six man-months to model one car. Let's say that towards the end it was much less, so that the average time is four man-months. If you put 100 of the team on car models, that still comes out to

(1000 cars x 4 months)/100 modelers = 3.33 years. And if the average is 5 man-months, it's over four years of work.

Just guessing, but that doesn't involve all the aspects of the car that might include damage and racing in the rain, sound and physics work. And it involves track models, game design, online coding, Home coding and all the other unknowns. Plus, it doesn't involve the massive interruption of GT Mobile that wasn't farmed out, probably on Kazunori's insistence. This game is his pride and joy after all.

SUPER NUMBBER
Selling GT5 without any damage, however, would've been devastating, and no amount of Top Gear would've been able to stop the cry of the people who've been asking for damage modelling (GT's biggest weakpoint) for ages, especially when it's main competitor had it from the get go.
Personally in a GT game I highly doubt, we have the impressive GT5P sales and an the impressive GT4 sales, Gran Turismo big appeal to the crowd(not the minority hardcore players) are the amazing realistic graphics, massive numbers(cars/tracks) and slick presentation/attention to detail. That is a thing you never will see at the same level on another game, the trademark of the house.

Now with GT5 the game is evolving to a much complete package but the core is the same.

You'd think with an unlimited budget they would've done that...I don't know....3 years ago?
Just think all the changes that PS3 GT has suffered since GTHD, I'm sure they are putting things in GT5 that never would expect to put when GTHD was unveiled. GT5 is like 2 merged GT in one, that never happened before.
